Very well done, I just finished learning this Hyung myself. It is always interesting seeing how other styles emphasize different aspects of these hyungs.
I have been around and seen martial arts all over the country and Soo Bahk Do and Tang Soo Do stylists are second to none. The Korean foot fighters are far superior to the Japanese and chinese styles because they express full power from the hip. I would challenge any martial artist from another style to put their forms up against HC Wang and his skill and power. It is truly an art form and beautiful to see.
I never did get to see the advance Yuk Rho hyungs. They were just instituting them into the US TSDMDK Fed. when I left TSD. I had barely learned the first Yuk Rho hyung. Even now, I still admire and respect my TSD roots, even though I'm a 5th Dan in an "americanized" form of ITF TKD.
This is nice to see the Yuk Rho hyungs...when I left TSD, they were first being taught in the USTSDMDK Fed. I never got to see what the advanced hyungs looked like. Nice job! Even though I'm a 5th Dan in TKD, I always have deep respect for my TSD roots.
GohModley you are a total idiot who knows nothing about martial arts, master bergers could kick your ass any place any where. Secondly the point is not for a form to look "cool" the point is for one to develop oneself physically and emotionally and be able to use pieces of it to defend oneself. If you are looking purely for flare try watching TKD open championships or something where they random kicks that look nice but would never help you in a real situation!
Olympic TKD actual takes skill and speed skill There olympic athletes. tang soo do sparring and soo bahk do is the slobbest sparring i've seen, you kan say whatever but the videos talk for them selves...you all do point touch sparring lol no wonder your hating, dont be made kuz hwang kee learned karate frm a book, n learned only a basic Tan Tui form n 1/2 of a taichi set then set about to MAKE UP his own martial art. we call that a McDojang.
if we all study history a little bit more we would all find out martial arts of all cultures have simular pasts..... bruce lee didn't finish his training either in WC.... its funny too that Moo Duk Kwan either directly or indirectly spawned some of the best martial artists around the world.... all by a man who didnt "finish his training"...
somehow it ended up making very cool practical means of mental emotinal physical and spiritual martial path to follow
you mean tournament point fighters like chuck norris? lmao...............yeah some "fighters" like why he made a new style chunkukdo kuz tang soo do is incomplete......bruce lee didnt become great till after he "completed his training" by learning different styles....the difference here is hwang kee LEARNED from karate books then taught "PEOPLE" the forms..............................=X
So your saying you wouldnt mind learning from a teacher who never finished high school? Or mind hiring a lawyer who only done two years of law school and never finished to represent u in the court room? or maybe someone to teach you to defend your self who according to his book never been in a fight, learned taeekkyon by watching his neighbor from afar, studied a quarter of a taijiquan and one basic long fist form for "2 years" then taught karate forms he learned frm a book?? and all thats ok?
I dont care if he learned it in his sleep or on a bus after he took a shit. This stuff was all made up and created by men. They all made it up by looking at animals and seeing what worked in combat over the years. All I can say is that it is a legitimate Martial art with many folowers and many skilled practitioners. Their are bits and peices of different arts in every style. The important thing is to find one that works for you.
@Brandonshanelow The difference is that real martial arts were spawned from a persons actual combat experience building a system around it. Hwang Kee learned kung fu for a year, a basic Tan Tui form, half of a 88 step taijiquan two man form(only learning one side)..Forms from a karate book at a library.. all together 1 year of kung fu training and you say his style is legit? hes puting lives at danger with the non sense he teaches
please name us some of the GREAT martial artist who trained in tang soo do?? thats not chuck norris?? lol please give us some names? i bet you cant think of any of fame or greatness can you? thank you for wasting our time with BS....hi im hwang kee, i know part of a taiji form one basic tan tui form and mixed it with karate forms from a book i now teach soobahkdo n tell people its ancient korean art, that spawned CHUCK NORRIS C-rated karate flicks n point fighters who pupibe calls greatest MAist
Chuck was a many time world champion..Hall of Fame fighter before the days of safety equipment. Knock outs were OK.... TAng Soo Do is a marriage of Karate, Aikido, JiuJitsu, weapons and much more...and my instructor could rip you to pieces with any part of it...
It all comes down to one thing is it combat affective. Most people arent scared of some little kung fu nerd hopping around in his pajamas. They would like to throw him inside an octagon ring with some UFC fighters and see if he comes out alive.Leave Tang Soo Do alone. You dont know shit about it.
Hwang kee learned taekkyon by watching his neighbor, cant learn much frm that, then only learned tan tui a basic kickin form and only 1/2 of yang taijiquan and learned karate frm a book. Found the moyedobotonji which is a korean translation of the chinese military text and recreated a dead form and tells people its a korean style....then makes up a bunch of new forms based on his very limited martial arts expericance...and becomes one of the larges korean MA organization....thats crazy!
Soo master Hwang Kee started an organization that had ove 30,000 black belts and masters, then that broke up to 20 different TSD organizations with over 100K black belts and masters world wide...most just average like ALL styles and participants but many are the best in the world... Its about building the character of our youth and teaching martial arts to the many...good health, good minds, and good character. YOU ARE A CLOSED MINDED SPHINCTER MUSCLE.
what internal energy? all he did was copy some taiji moves into his new forms. lets face the facts he only learned basic kung fu One ship Ee rho dam toi(12 road tan tui) and 1/2 of taijiquan (not even the whole form!) and Sorim jangkwon(only first half of a two part form) then some karate forms from a BOOK! how kan someone create a system when he NEVER EVEN FINSHED ANY OF THE MARTIAL ARTS HE STUDIED!?? soo bahk do even claims to be ancient...give me a break are you people blind?
Great breath control. This a long form with a lot of varying tempos.
I was a black belt in JuJitsu before I practiced Tang Soo Do. I find Tang Soo harder. I can say that sometimes it can be a little boring. It is super challenging which is odd that it can also be boring? As far as the guy talking about arm bars etc..etc...Stay in Martial arts for 10-20+ years and you'll see it that there is a lot more to it. Self defense is just one aspect. This guy can get himself outta a jam.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow... what a seriously boring martial art. No grace, no finesse, little strength, it just looks awkward. I realize that this guy has practiced this for many years, so if it all sums up to this... why would anyone be tempted to start practicing it. "Ah, this looks like shit, let's train like hell to be able to do stuff that looks crappy!!"
I hold a black belt in several different martial arts which by the way jiu jitsu happens to be one of them. You need to respect each martial art for what they represent , and that is specifically to cultivate one's character and then secondarily how to defend oneself. Tang soo do is a very fine art form and definitely a great from of self defense. It also allows the practitioner to cultivate Ki or Chi as evidenced in this Chil Sung Form. You try it!
I'd rather just continue practice kung fu or do some ki-meditation and excersizes to cultivate my ki. That form he does is shit easy and it looks like crap, never in my life would I spend several years practicing a martial art that has so little art and so little usefulness.
Dude, put some video of your form if you think this is crapy. He is a great martialartist, I'd want him covering my back any day. It take many years to make somthing look effortless. That sometimes gets viewed as boring. This is a high-ranking form which means it has more internal growth aspects that go way beyond the physical. Most martialartists never get there so I can see why you may not understand. Actualy, forget your form - try doing this and post the video!!!
Not really, at least not where this form is concerned. It is a Moo Duk Kwan form. It's only been 14 years or so since KJN Ferraro split from the Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, no doubt they have their own flavor by now (Ryu Pah) but our arts are close cousins.
Since leaving the ITF I have learnt up to number 5 of these great forms and would love to learn this one thank you for the oppurtunity of seeing this one performed
@JTtheNinja I see it too, I think it is northtern Long fist and Tai Chi Chuan.. I read somewhere that Hwang Kee the founder studied with a chinese master named Yang so prehaps thats where the influence comes...
Excellent Form. Great job, my friend.

Why do they leave their arm extended there for so long? Wouldn't it be easy to arm bar them? Or trap the arm?
And why don't they protect their head/face?
Why do they stand off-center and off-balance with no base? Wouldn't it be easy to take them to the ground?
Just curious ...
