Amoeba records (google it) is a fantastic store front to still buy a metric shit ton of great hip hop on vinyl including just about all new releases. Also there still exists record clubs and tons of resources to buy vinyl.
@Steedius its true, look at how dope he is, you see what hes using? VINYL. how it all started, how it was meant to be, if you learn on a CDJ then your fuckin yourself over. im about to buy a Numark TT-200 and jam on that for a while till i can afford a beautiful Technics
@dazedandsublime And now I realize you weren't the person I was arguing with in the first place. I'm sorry if my previous response seemed to hold anger or hostility.
@edgar91593 hes using technics 1200's so...., brand new around $500, but ive seen people sell used ones in pairs between $400-$900, LoL I know this one guy, got his pair of 1200's for $15 at a club going out of business auction! the club auctioned them off as "used record players"
@edgar91593 me personally i would get turntables, but in my opinion it all depends on what your goal is, like i do it as a hobby mostly scratch turntablism, but if u wanna become a club DJ or something id probably get CDJ so you could use CDs with all the newest music, cause you most likely wont find vinyl that has alot of new songs on them.....
@edgar91593 ...or u could get turntables with "Serato" or "Torq" that lets you play MP3s on your vinyl from iTunes, but you will then need a laptop or computer to run the software on and get music from also the software and special vinyl to use with the software.."Torq" i think is about $350 and "Serato" i think is around $500-$550... so yea i think it all depends on what you what to do.
I could have sworn I answered this but now I don't see it. I'm using 1200s as the turntables and an 07 pro for a mixer. A stereo is hooked up to the 07. That's really it besides the needles and the records.
hey i got a question. do ur hands ever slip on the record? cuz sometimes it feels like i have to use the edge of the record because i lose grip when i scratch with my hand on the middle of the record. sometimes i want to like wet my hands or something
Every turntablist wets their hands with something, keep a semi-wet towel next to you. There's other tricks too, to help with skipping so you can get super fast stabs and shit off without it skipping. Qbert had a good protip video but you can find all those on your own.
This is really amazing, nice solid beat and some really great scratching, you create some great sound with those scratch samples man. Inspirational to me :)
the beat is a dre beat and sample comes from a record called hee haw breaks. you can get them at your local hip hop record shop or amoeba in hollywood or san francisco has a huge selection. you can also buy sample records from thudrumble - qberts company.
My favorite record that has a lot of samples to scratch is called hee-haw breaks. DJ flare recently (relatively recently) released a new one called hee-haw breaks part 2. There are definitely "scratch records" though, with tons of samples on them and are usually lighter and thinner than say LPs and EPs and are easier to manipulate with less skipping.
i got a friend who works for power 106 here in los angeles and he hooked up the extra bright lights on everything, it helps when scratching in a dark place
How about just get a direct drive lol why the fuck wld you try to use a scratch record on a belt driven table, or if it is direct drive get a fucken shure m44-7 & some butter rugs lol
This scratch record cannot be played on older record players such as my GE Wildcat from the 70's. If this happens if you can do the record scratching, it would cause scruff marks on it. Be careful not to play a scratch record on any record player that is older including the Magnavox, GE, Voice of Music, Califone, BSR, Newcomb, etc.
Get Superseal 2 its the bomb & also HeeHaw Breaks is another good one, your local record/graff shop should tock both plus more... Oh yeh Nice cuts on the video too bro.
hey nice ass vid mann...im curious since im just starting out in turntablism...what kind of record do use to scratch with? like our you using a specific sound on a random record to scratch to the track, or is there some kind of specific sound I should look for when scratching???
I personally think he's getting worse. I think he's in an experimental stage these days where he has abandoned many old school patterns (like chirping) in favor of just sticking to newer flare combos and tear patterns. Just my humble opinion. And yes, when ONE person has invented most of the modern day scratch patterns there's not much we can do except learn them ourselves :)
I do them as a crab-flare, just like a single flare only instead of 1 click in the middle of the pattern do a really fast 3-fingered crab. It sounds interesting. But I think DJ flare actually does them without crabbing, which no one in the world has figured out how to do yet : /
watch the vid at about the 1:35 - 1:40 mark for how I do them, I'm only doing the reverse variation there but you can see and hear what it sounds like.
