The further along games game the more turn-based anything seems impractical and breaks my willing suspension of disbelief. In 2D (and whatever Paper Mario was) it's fine, but as soon as you get to 3D I'm like hey realism-why the h**l are they TAKING TURNS shooting each other? Which sucks as the story, music, characters, i.e. pretty much everything else about this game strikes me as awesome.
@sickweirdo thats not the point... All I said was to not judge it based on not having ff13 level graphics... Also what other ps3 games look as good as ff13?
This game definitely has my interest, but I am going to wait until it hits the bargain bin just a little bit more. Once it is below $20 I'll definitely get it.
@solariastella Hah, yeah, it took a while to get used to- however I played the japanese demo before I'd even started the american release, so I had a good idea of what I was doing when I started :P
About the battle system. Does it involve some kind 2 or 3 way attack/skills for them at same time where party combining their skills together and attack in one command. Like Delta attack formation or so. Or is it always 1 on 1 each command?
@D10078 It's not ridiculously challenging, IMO. But there is a lot of strategy involved, and you generally have to know your enemy. So there's a decent amount of difficulty. :P
@consciouswei Square did a great job on FF13 as far as graphics. I'm not sure a lot will match it, and RoF doesn't quite do it. That's not to say the graphics are bad at all though. As far as story, I hated FF13, so I can't give you a great opinion here. RoF's story isn't bad, but it also takes a while to pick up. It really doesn't start getting better till chapter 9.
@DestinStrider Question, did you hate FFXIII more than FFXII? (I haven't finished XIII), cause I truly hated FFXII, and XIII is slightly better, but still not great as is predecessors.
@jbriggs06 Well, now its more or less games that can match graphics from Square games. Out of all the titles I've seen, all games under SE's umbrella seem to be absolutely beautiful. The only thing is, all those other 'unmatched' titles seem to have a better story, and occasionally gameplay imo
@YuKaiCV Honestly, I prefer this. While those battle systems have their merits, I rarely have to actually think in those battles. Wheras in these, I'm constantly planning stuff.
@YuKaiCV Generally I can get through fights in SO 2/3/4 and All the recent tales just by mashing an attack. Wheras in this every move I need to consider position and how it will effect me.
IGN infuriates me. This looks like a good game, deserving of much more than a 7. Not only that, but who calls a soundtrack with Motoi Sakuraba "worth turning off" (direct quote from the review)? D:<
@EvilxobX64 Most critics just say shit because they think its funny or the want to seem cool (IE X-play or IGN). They really are only interested in mainstream titles like that piece of repeating shit, Halo. They tend to miss out on the hidden gems like this. Its a cool game, play or watch (thank you lets players) for yourself then pass judgment.
@EvilxobX64 Deffo. Motoi Sakuraba definitely lent some good scores to this game, though I do admit a few of the battle themes could have used a bit more work.
love that game

@jbriggs06 no game should and can be compared to ff13, it's just that no other game could end up sucking so bad.

So basically you just use that lame board all the time, and you can't just walk around like any other game?

@consciouswei There aren't many games in existence that can match FFXIII graphics... If anything don't judge it based on that.

I was kinda disappointed to see that this game is not like Star Ocean or Tales Of where you can run around freely and attack as you please.
Nice gunplay tho XD

Walk around the map on "Back alley" hexes. :P Or walk into a dungeon, either way.

Yep, figured that out after 20 mins... ._.
I kept exploring the town thinking that I was supposed to talk to someone, or if there was some alleyway in the town where I got into battles. .__.;

No. Only grenades have limited ammo, so you have to buy those if you want to use them later, or find them hidden on the map.

some special ammo is also limited like incederary rounds or hollow point
