got this album when it first came out and wore it out. had the tape too. fine heartfelt soulful musical creativity in dark colors. this song inspired me to read "Martin Eden" by Jack London, a novel easily as good as the songs that came out of it. both are such treats. giving thanks. Tom Waits and Jack London, a coupla stand up guys.
First heard this at age 18 sailing across the Atlantic. We had a tape of Asylum Years and we'd put it on every night at sunset and stare out at the horizon and wonder if we'd ever see land again. I've been a fan ever since....of Tom Waits and crossing oceans. I have to be alone now to listen to anything other than his first two albums...Mrs wont allow it...says its maudlin. I crossed the Atlantic with her a couple of years ago.. should have pushed her in.
If I live 100 years past this day (which I intend to and then some), I will leave precise instructions in my will that this song be played at my funeral. Wonderful song, one of my favorites of all time.
FackYeah thanks for the upload of a classic from a surprisingly sober and smoke free Tom Waits! Believe me I still love the guy's performances, but a peek at his early career is heart warming! So thanks again to F..Y... And You Tube and of course the one and only Tom By God Waits!
gorgeous death song
