  • gorgeous death song

  • This man really knows how to deliver! If you enjoy the music of Tom Waits you should check out my cover of Chocolate Jesus on my channel.

  • Love love a thousand times love. Tom is a god.

  • shiver me balls

  • "To be up in the crow's nest, singin' my say, shiver me timbers, I'm sailin' away."

  • "The piano has been drinking, not me."

  • That melody and that voice...

  • Beautiful!

  • This song will break you down to a place that knows what you need to do and you haven't done it.

  • got this album when it first came out and wore it out. had the tape too. fine heartfelt soulful musical creativity in dark colors. this song inspired me to read "Martin Eden" by Jack London, a novel easily as good as the songs that came out of it. both are such treats. giving thanks. Tom Waits and Jack London, a coupla stand up guys.

  • James Taylor does a wonderful version of this...

  • this song breaks my heart every time I hear it...only Tom does it justice

  • what a gorgeous song...lyrics and melody so beautifully intertwined

  • this is a nice version.

  • First heard this at age 18 sailing across the Atlantic. We had a tape of Asylum Years and we'd put it on every night at sunset and stare out at the horizon and wonder if we'd ever see land again. I've been a fan ever since....of Tom Waits and crossing oceans. I have to be alone now to listen to anything other than his first two albums...Mrs wont allow it...says its maudlin. I crossed the Atlantic with her a couple of years ago.. should have pushed her in.

  • @lloydcr206 maybe you shoud've indeed... This can really separate people

Wonderful song and I believe it should be heard by anyone who says that Tom can't sing

  • I just performed this at my friend's mom's funeral, this morning. Not a dry eye in the house. I love this song. Absolutely love it!

  • @funfinder27. I'm sorry for your loss.

  • @funfinder27 My brother and I played this for my father too. Definitely a wonderful song for a great man.

  • If I live 100 years past this day (which I intend to and then some), I will leave precise instructions in my will that this song be played at my funeral. Wonderful song, one of my favorites of all time.

  • i think i love you!

  • FackYeah thanks for the upload of a classic from a surprisingly sober and smoke free Tom Waits! Believe me I still love the guy's performances, but a peek at his early career is heart warming! So thanks again to F..Y... And You Tube and of course the one and only Tom By God Waits!

  • My peoples love this song ever so much

  • i absolutely love tom waits! i have to say thank you to my dad for introducing him to me. i no. hard to believe a teenager likes him but i do!

  • It does the soul well to listen to TW every once in a while. What a great songwriter.

  • This is not the album version from Heart of Saturday Night... Where is this from?

  • @Lavizzle.

This version is from The early years volume 2.

  • Great music, some of the best I have heard of Mr Waits... Thank's man...
