The routine is the 4 moves about to be taught, gone through twice. She is looking at the audience, the class. The "fat guy", Roger Chin, has brought thousands into dance, won comps, made lots of people happy. He is one of the crew in at the start of Modern Jive..
there seems to be no connectivity here. good routine just needs partners to be more 'in touch' with eachother, maybe look at one another once in a while?
unless not doing that is the effect your trying to get?
I really like this routine, which incorporates a number of moves I have every intention of trying out. I see Jivenation gives admission discounts for those with students' cards. If they did the same for those with bus passes and winter fuel allowances, I'd go along myself.
While its quite skilful I find this style boring It doesen't get into the music it just flows along and with no musicallity , indeed the music seems incidental
I have to agree. It's a feature of modern jive per se that the moves sometimes bear no relationship to the music. Given the massive popularity of modern jive, is anyone actually producing numbers that cater specifically for it?
I posted a slightly negative comment re, this video whch I stand by but I took your suggestion and watched the Baila Morena clip and that was a great improvement there was a much better relationship to the music and the dancers had the X factor in their parternership.
I think you have missed the point of modern jive. The simplified footwork allows for new dancers to pick up the dance quickly, but it also lets experienced dancers use the music more effectively.
Cha Cha and Waltz and most all other formal styles have strict footwork which restricts dancers to certain songs. The flip side is that dancers seem to be in tune to the music.
Advanced MJ dancers have more flexibility and can interpret many more music genres. Most MJ dancers don't just flow along.
Nothing inherent in the dance stops it from being musical. It can be fantastically musical, it truley is a free-style dance, but with that freedom comes a variety of interpretations, however the sky is the limit!!!.

moves are quite nice, but a little repetative- worst thing is that the woman does not lokk at her partner, she may as well be dancing on her own!

Hi
Thanks for your comments. Everything is welcome.
I would like you to watch the first part of my own Baila Morena clip. In this the music is more
lively and so flows better. The music here is a bit fast & insipid, so I agree with you.
Have tried to video response it just above.

I bet none of you know that the leader here in the video, is one of the people who actually helped " invent " ceroc in the early 1980's.
Perhaps the corrcect thing to say is -- ' Roger was one of those who helped develop modern jive '
