this is probably the only chisel song that really suits barnesy's "vocals". it's more like hard rock. when i was a kid, i used to think this was a deep purple song but i actually got misxed up with "woman from tokyo". i'm not implying this was chisel's only good song but i've always felt that barnesy would have been more suited to heavy metal music
After this video every Australian male copied Jimmy`s awkward thrusts on dance floors across the country. The bloke with the biggest thrust usually got the best/most pissed girl. Fact.
@Serthrakk its not just music ... there are fake versions of men - take a look at the whole PUA and metrosexual bullshit. Then there is the rise of aggressive pinverts, aka penis-inverts (females that act like men in business, work, society). They too expect the immediate respect - the respect it takes years to earn. Really... take a hard look around today's society and read up on what's really going on. If Cold Chisel were new, they may not even get an audience in Sydney today.
Ian Moss plays some great guitar here. Hearing this song for the first time gets me thinking that the music really fits into the classic rock radio format in the U.S. BTW I'm from Kansas City, MO.
For the most part, ever since I was old enough to appreciate music, I've always liked Cold Chisel, and indeed Jimmy Barnes, but I can see where you guys are coming from. Their melodies and choruses were disappointingly monotonous, hey?
I loved Cold Chisel when I was a kid, and, just a few years ago, got back into them! Their style of rock, and focus on real-life issues was superflous, hey. However, I can see where the first three respondents are coming from. As successful and awesome that they were, the choruses did leave a lot to be desired, I agree with you.
Great show at Rochford Winery on Saturday. Chisel made the pouring rain and knee-deep mud worth it. Fuck it was weird seeing them in a fucking winery though.

Good sound and good musicianship, but TOO repetitious. Cold Chisel seems to have no problem in any of their songs just repeating the same musical sequences over & over again.
@MarkLipka Damn, I never noticed their frequent use of a chorus!!! They should have known better and took their lessons from Queen and their chorus-less big hit!
I'm not the biggest chisel fan but i dig this song & who cares if they didn't crack it in the USA i mean christ Jimi Hendrix had to go to london to get famous, they can take awhile to twig sometimes our american friends lol
WOW awesome response! I meant it in the best way really I have never heard of Cold Chisel and it immediately transported my brain back to 1982 for a couple min. they look like an underated band that many connected to...Speaking of tough hardworking bands that unfortunately didnt make it have you seen the ANVIL movie? thanks again for getting back
@masseyHHVP They're a legend in Australia - they're songs play on commercial radio every single day and they're CD's take up nearly an entire shelf in every CD store in Australia. They paid a price for being as Australian as possible, and inspite of their big chance in the US (Elektra focusing on breaking them in the US and ignoring their new signing Motley Crew), CC didn't make it in the US hence this song.
The group has something of a cult following in Europe - see live at rockpalast 1982
@masseyHHVP LOVERBOY?!?!?!?!??! Are you fucking serious? I appreciate your enthusiasm, but do NOT ever compare Cold Chisel to Loverboy... ever! Please don't!!! For the sake of the people who have lived on Cold Chisel's music and for the sake of all real tough groups who play hard in hard places... never put Cold Chisel next to Loverboy... please don't!?!?!?!

One of my favourites from Cold Chisel, one of the many great Aussie bands of the late 70's and 80's. This was mine and an ex's theme song to each other:)
@PJohnny76 Agree with the others, Paddington Town Hall. I was in there the other week, and it's remarkably unchanged from when the Saints/Birdman played their legendary gig.
@argonaught11 Oh HELL YEAH!!!!! I lived in Melbourne for a couple years back in the late 80's and got my first taste of Cold Chisel when I heard this song on the radio. I live in Kansas, USA now, but I still have fond memories of those days. These guys got 'hosed' by their record company. I think they could've made it big in America!
@argonaught11 I'm from the UK. I am a MASSIVE Chis fan as well as Powderfinger and The Oils. Love Aussie music, BEST in the WORLD in my humble opinion.

@offspringfan41588 This song is a reply to what they where asked to do TO have US success ;-).. they could have had it, but it would have compromised their ethics and creativity beyond what they could accept, the US execs just seemed to think they slip them in the same machine which churned out the early 80s hair band rock scene, not that I dislike that music myself, but they just got chisel all wrong, their loss.. I dont think these guys ever reggretted telling them where to stick it.
@Apis4 too right. Chisel could always put on a good show like last month when they performed for 20,000+ people at the Deni Ute Muster. it was electric, fucking awesome glad i went to the event it was top notch shit i would definitly pay to see them again even if it is top dollar that i would have to pay to see them
I was an American kid living in Adelaide in '82. Saw Cold Chisel in Adelaide Stadium. They F'n rocked it! Still love this music. Thanks for keeping all the great early 80s songs alive.
This is an aussie thing. If you scream this at someone in Australia they either usually leave (or punch you in the nose). In Europe they don't get it. They hang around ?! Or it's a chick thing, anywhere - they never get it - they tend to think it's not real. I expect the yanks get it - they tend to understand brutal directness - but maybe not the liberal-left wingers.
I cannot believe the low viewings on these videos! I'm common... 10183?! (183 of which are mine). Tiger Woods turns up an snogs his adulterer on the second at Kingston Heath and gets 200 000 views that day.
Correct - best Chisel song ever! They wrote it about their experience on a trip to the gold old USA and meeting (or non-meeting actually) with corporate record company execs. . . apparently the friend's uncle's mother's cousin's dog had a birthday party - so the exec couldn't meet with Chisel. . .
Almost as good ?!! WTF ? Better. and if you've ever been to at least one Chisel gig in your life...you would know they are So much better. ACDC of course they are as good. as for the others...they never were in the same league as Cold Chisel.
Thank you for posting. no 'trends...' ever followed here. Awesome
Rikki.... i know you posted this a month ago but re-reading it I'm going to have to correct you. They were equal to the bands you mentioned. You may be new to Chisel, but over here in Oz they are legends and we do not place them underneath the bands you mention. They were equal.. no, they were better than the bands you mentioned and I mean it as somebody who knows Australian rock.
@nzoz1981 very well said mate. it took me a while to get used to cold chisel but after a while i never looked back. they are an awesome band. they are better then any band that comes from Australia
@RikkiX69 You claim that Chisel is ALMOST as good as those bands. Did you notice that AC/DC do pretty much nothing but hard rock? Same with the others. Cold Chisel have a variety. They can do just about anything. And Don Walker's lyrics and far more meaningful than any other ones I've heard and seriously, did you not hear Ian Moss on guitar? Just think about it. Because Cold Chisel really are the best that Aussie rock can offer.
Geez whats up with that person. Classic song from a grate album, really gave it to the yanks with this song..A big welcome back to Australia Album and Song...5stars from me..
I agree with TheGend, anyone who hasn't screamed this at the top of their lungs after breaking up with a girl (or guy for you ladymen out there) hasn't lived. Of course, having a gutful of strong liquor helps too..... Thanks for posting nzoz

Because Cold Chisel really are the best that Aussie rock can offer.

i'll say this is the most discrete way possible.
You chose the wrong band to state an opinion about. You really should have kept that to yourself.
Luckily, only 473 people have read it to far. I don't like your chances as the viewing tally rises.

I agree with TheGend, anyone who hasn't screamed this at the top of their lungs after breaking up with a girl (or guy for you ladymen out there) hasn't lived. Of course, having a gutful of strong liquor helps too..... Thanks for posting nzoz
