@Guts01 We're not dealing with Korea here. We're dealing with America. Many individuals of the minority identify more as being Americans rather than their ethnic group's nationality. Why? Simply because America is where we grew up. America is Mr. Kim's primary concern America is his home.
@Naokazita : What planet are you from? There's nothing weird about him not being in character. He is a true American besides the fact of the character he plays on Lost. Theres nothing weird of any ethnic minority speaking english fluently.
and sgyndam66. don't be a racist fucktard and attribute pidgin english to all asians, including asian americans. especially if you just watched a video of one talking fluently and articulately about politics. if he represents korea, why would he give a shit about what the asian-american community votes?
RE: tenemeaqui. how can you confine anti-asian racism to merely two decades? what masley81 is talking about has a lineage that traces back to when the first immigrants that came to the US.
every heard of the driving out period? the chinese exclusion act? the transcontinental railroads? the tule swamps? the alaskan canneries? vincent chin? does ANY of this ring a bell? i dare you to wikipedia ONE of the above topics.
yeh. most of asian actors seem to have stereopypic role of not being able to speak proper english on tv while they are in fact born and raised in the states. this kind of racial prejudice is everywhere. Asian Americans are generally known as nerdy hard-working highly-educated people and hispanic actors are mostly described as deceitful criminals or illigal immigrants.
i wont go that far... thats like an 70s 80s thought... theyre so mixed now that there is not american race... still ... when they say asian they dont think that indiasn n russian are also asians... n think in chinese japanese... still.. latinos are still the same..
yeh, maybe it's because east asian immigrants are much more common in america, and a close link between America and East Asia, both historically and economically, has made it solid. On the other hand, in Britain, who has a close historic relationship with India, Asians are generally implied as Indians or Pakistanis. A term 'oriental' is used to describe east asians in Britain whereas it is legally considered as a racist remark in America.
yeah, u mean he looks younger? he looks just about the right age and in fact, much younger than the lead character, Jack. can you believe it? LOL. While Jack is a real pimp who bangs on Kate who is only 29. ,
I agree. But Asian looks just about their age but Euro-ancestry tend to look a lot older after they turned 30. I personally think though Jack looks quiet young at this age. He looks like someone who is in his early 30's.
Daniel Dae Kim is a true American. Rare is it that you see a person so eloquently defend someone of another group. Injustice and intolerance anywhere affects us all. This is one of the best videos to ever grace YouTube.
@TrojanLoyalist THe guy is another hollywood clown who votes Democratic not because he knows the issues but because he wants to be lkiked/loved in his liberal paradise of Freakwoods!!! Plain and simple!!!!
he was gaining power. he has an opinion. he had to be neutralized. one thing NY/Hoolywood does like is actors or actresses who stop being little obedient mouse people.
correction: "does not like." NY/Hollywood want to people and the actors to be passive and support the iron system. Libery and Freedom is not what NY/Hollywood stands for. Today Hollywod stands for marketing and Pentagon deals to mind control the people and control theater distribution to keep brainwashing the people. Imagine if there was no internet and the people had only TV channels and what they put in the movie theater.
actually jin either came to the US when he was really young or was born here because english is his first language. He had to brush up on his korean when he started the show
Incorrect - he was born in Pusan, a southern city in South Korea, but he moved to the US when he was young; you could say he's generation 1.5, since although he was born in Korea, he moved here when he was really young.
If his parents are from Pusan, then it would've been even harder for him to learn Korean for the show - people from Pusan speak with a heavy accent called "sa-too-lee", which sometimes other native Koreans can't understand. Its like trying to learn Scottish or Madrid Spanish.
scottish english sure, but madrid spanish? as opposed to "standard" mexico city spanish? also, i don't think you can call him generation 1.5. that term is more suitable to those who do remember and retain the language, customs, and culture. it is pretty evident that he has much more in common with a non-korean native virginian than some korean person who lives in pusan.

every one of speak as if "asian people" or "chinese people" are one person with one view. everyone needs to stop making sweeping generalizations, and then everyone will be happy.
So, let's start over (on openly friendly terms!) Overall, I see you misinterpreted my comment. The very base of what I was and am trying to say is this: One needs to truly understand the complexity and deep-rootedness of the struggles of Asian-Americans--moreso than to the naked eye--before making relatively simple assumptions. Please understand that this goes not mainly towards you, but to society in general! Take care.
actually i don't think daniel and i were looking down on george allen, or on anyone for that matter when we made this video. when someone makes a racist comment or uses hate speech, we speak for ourselves and on behalf of our community, not to condescend, or to censor, but rather to bring such comments into the light so that they may be accepted or rejected. we don't look down on those who condone the use of prejudice as a political platform. we simply disagree.
Kealan--and I mean no hostility with this comment--but one could deem your comment to be very thoughtless or very ignorant. Certainly you solely wouldn't be to blame, but please realize that for many, a broader, more intensive understanding of the issue is needed in order to make a worthwhile assessment, instead of a relatively empty one, as you have made. how bout this douchebag, explain to me what the fuck you mean by "self righteous bullshit" and give some examples of when asian americans have "looked down on other americans" you racist cockbag.
yeah like you don't know about it or don't know that it doesn't exist. Chinese people think they're from the middle kingdom, making them superior to others, japanese people have this ideology from way back that they're race is superior to atleast other asian races and for the rest, especially vietnamese happen to think anglo-saxons are stupid, ignorant and lazy. Talk to your buddy Kenneth Eng and he'll explain it for you asswipe!
thanks for some stereotypical bullshit friend. chinese people do call china the middle kingdom, but what about chinese-americans? japanese people had a history of bigoted supremacy, but what about japanese americans? and when did kenneth eng become the authority on asian american matters? hes a racist shithole and i certainly dont endorse him. so give me some specific examples of asian AMERICANS acting supremacist. thanks.

no one has right to say such things according to who?... ya mother?
yeah that's right take a chill pill before you flip out, go psycho, do a Seung Hui Cho and injure yourself or more seriously an innocent person. Looks like you're going out of control Cho!!!
i'm freaking out? i'm not the one swearing and going berserk and getting out of control and losing my cool. Sit down, relax and realise many Asian people think they're superior to others and are racist aswell, even to other asian people, especially other asian people.
well i'm not.. ok fine ur not freakin out.. i'm not either.. so wut the fuck are we fighting about? and i swear cuz i just liking swearing.. but i'm not like the other asians.. for some koreans they swear at japanese ppl and other asians but i actually am trying to stop that and i am actually in a group called no racism.. so ya..
actually, by the very definition, stereotypes are false because they are second hand information without any facts to back them up. you think in generality because you have the intellectual capability of a gnat. go buy a gun and put it in your mouth until it goes click, fucking cunt.
the only one who is freaking out is you, as evidenced by other posters. you are pleb and sloppy thinker, which is why you generalize a whole group of people whose viewpoints vary immensely from one individual to another. the key word there is individual. but i know that's too hard to understand for someone who paints with a sloppy broad brush.
hey common daniel dae, we need to call on korean americans forget the rest of the asians. lol (just kidding fools) but seriously in fairfax co. we rule. ahn and moon (both korean born local politicans) and lots of rich and power FOBs. annandale bitch!
A serious video with a great message and people make lame jokes. (Okay, I kinda laughed at the isle of macaca thing, so sue me) Daniel Dae Kim is every bit of beautiful, too. Mmmmhhmmm.
As an immigrant from the Isle of Macaca, I found nothing wrong with Allen's comments. I don't see Bastardians or Moronians making any fuss, it is simply a reference to their origin of birth. I have even heard some people say that there is no place called the Isle of Macaca. That is absolutely ridiculous. It is just south of Mapeepee.
Cheers to youtube for making the silent minority heard! Now we just need to rid of the other 75% retarded Asian videos on this site and keep ones like these.
Asian-Americans are no longer the 'silent minority'. They are now willing to make their voices heard in American politics. Great stuff. George Allen sucks.

actually, by the very definition, stereotypes are false because they are second hand information without any facts to back them up. you think in generality because you have the intellectual capability of a gnat. go buy a gun and put it in your mouth until it goes click, fucking cunt.

the only one who is freaking out is you, as evidenced by other posters. you are pleb and sloppy thinker, which is why you generalize a whole group of people whose viewpoints vary immensely from one individual to another. the key word there is individual. but i know that's too hard to understand for someone who paints with a sloppy broad brush.

I am glad that the Asian American community has people like Daniel Dae Kim urging members to vote.. APIA vote. It's about time we are heard.

Asian-Americans are no longer the 'silent minority'. They are now willing to make their voices heard in American politics. Great stuff. George Allen sucks.
