The cold war is gone, but they found us the war of terrorism. Didn't they? Ten years after September 11 and I find my initial fascination with this song when it came out in the nineties almost prophetic.
Pink Floyd's Wall and Brave, particulary this one. The album that I have to revisite time to time, from the first song to "made again" the whole story, with its ups and downs put you to several states of mind in a increasing momentun. A masterpiece of music.
Remember seeing this live in Cardiff many moons ago and still think its a truely wonderful piece of musical genius.Hogarth and the guys at their best.
I remember 1994, Poznan/Poland... I was standing there, in front of the stage, with tears in my eyes (first marillion concert ever in my life, after so many years of adoration!). I was singing along with H., tryin not to cry :)
I could weep for the beauty of the guitar, first in the very beginning, these soulful notes which seems to hang in the air and then the heavier, dramatic notes just around 5:00.. Awe inspiring! But the whole song is epic and I have to admire how they can pull of a song like this live and make it so intense.. And words fall short as usual when it comes to Marillion!
Re-discovering "Brave" again right now...and it's brilliant!! Marillion is amazing, as you can always re-discover a song or album and uncover something sublime...over and over again. I like the vector synths used on the album and the Rothery solos are incredible.
you are dead right marillion are my GO TO band when it hits the fan , i am on this strange engine and holidays in eden for some wierd reason, anyway i love great music and for some strange reason the band are still one of the best kept secrets !!!!
Seen them 2 days ago in Munich, they played Goodbye to all that/ mad/opium Den/... and it was BREATHTAKING. Just like the rest of the concert! If you have the remote chance of seeing them live, do that on this tour, live concerts won't get better :)
Unbelievable, I've seen them in November and will see them again in February. Amazing live band, they sound even better than in the studio, and you can just feel how much they enjoy performing. One of my favorite live bands
This is fantastic, without jumping on the FvH wagon. An amazing piece of music and truly IMHO far superior to Misplaced Childhood. Surpassed by MArbles and now quite possibly by Essence.
Steve's guitar play at the end of the song is so excellent, so apposite, so atmospheric, it gives so much to this song. I have heard this song a several hundred times by now, in different versions, and it does not get boring!
Brave is by far and away the best album of all time. what an exceptional story and truly outstanding lyrics. Marbles was a monster album also, but it falls just short of Brave. then you have Seasons End.....i could go on all day.........
Dos melhores albuns de sempre (Best album ever).Tive o privilégio de os ouvir ao vivo a semana passada (lisbon Calling) e foi fantástico.Dos poucos que conseguem ser melhor ao vivo que em albuns de estudio.
I'd like to think Marillion will create an album as dynamic, adventurous and complete as Brave... but the more I listen to it I don't think anything else compares; not just within their work but from almost anything I've heard. Fan favorites have a way of burdening a band with expectations of a recreation but I won't even ask that of them since it probably isn't possible. Good on ya, boys.
Such a dark, emotional record. I still get the chills everytime I listen to it. Steve Rothery is clearly at his best on this album. The most underrated guitar player ever.
He is indeed. What Rothery does with a guitar is overlooked. When he plays he creates a special sound, with what looks like minimal effort. From Seasons end to Somewhere Else, Marillion are genius, and if a band like coldplay had done what Marillion have done, then each album would reach number one.
This is really what annoys me the most with the music industry today. Many of Marillion's songs are perfect radio material, with great recognizable themes, which would be #1 hits immidiatly if they were released under a different name.
It's the curse us Marillion fans must live with. We know that their music is great, but why can't people understand?
I first drove from Pembs to Bristol in 1993 to watch Marillion play live.... it was the most fantastic live gig i've ever witnessed, the music was spot on & all the vocals were word perfect.... I spent most of night being sick, coz i there-after found out i was pregnant! I tell my Son, he was the first to go to a live gig!...over the years "Brave" has meant as much today, as then,.... and the words still
Honestly, I couldn't stand Brave when it first came out. It put me asleep, and I don't think I was able to listen to the whole thing all the way through. I'm not sure where I stand on it now.
If you dont like Brave, you don't like Marillion. If you couldn't listen to it all the way through, then you didn't give it a chance. After the second listening i was hooked. If you don't know its about, then i will tell you. Its about a girl who runs away from home.
That's not really fair, to be honest. For me, Marillion was best in the Fish era, and I know that there are alot of others who feel the same. I did like "Season's End". But most Marillion songs I heard after that were really boring to me. I still cannot stand Brave, and I have given it a fair shot.

'Marbles' and 'Brave' are the best in my huble opinion. Steve Rothery's guitar playing is wondeful to listen to anytime.

I agree with you 100% - They're both brilliant albums in their own right.
I prefer Marbles over Brave for easy listening, just because its a lot more chilled out. Brave is far more cutting edge however!
