Did anyone else notice Bruce Springsteen playing the tele and Eddie Van Halen playing his Frankenstein in the opening sequence for a Gibson program? Asides the obvious Hendrix part everyone was quick to catch ... Although they might've played Gibsons at one point or another, they should've at least gotten shots illustrating that.

I have a les Paul standard (2001), and borrowed a USA strat for a few months, the strat is nice but the les is in my opinion far superior, nicer sound better sustain and looks sexy it weighs a bit but still a better guitar:)

my GibsonlesPaul is concert prepped with binding all the way over the headstock,a big reason the "sound" is so different on an Epiphone is the "angle" of the headstock,and did I mention the"maple top",the "maple top" is essential to get the GibsonLesPaul "sound"

Yeah, actually maple tops sound different, tried them both at guitar center, [epiphone standard, and epiphone standard plus top A.K.A. "maple top"] to my ears, the maple top had a little brighter sound, pretty sweet, but i lean more to the "dark" sound of plain top, [pure "mahogany" body, with no maple top] just better to my ears, i was looking for a darker sound, i mean it sounds awesome, just a little less bright than the plus top version, [yeah: it ACTUALLY makes a difference]

You can have amazing pickups but waste them on a body that can't sustain for shit and won't resonate the sound efectively enough to get the sound the pickups were ment to produce because they are ment to go in a much higher quality built guitar so you aren't realy getting what you paid for and you would be missing out on tone due to poor woods and poor electronics.

@XDAMM Well you don't actually own a Gibson Les Paul so you wouldn't know the difference until you actualy own one which would probably be never. Yeah the pickups are the main sound producers but the woods are responsible for the sustain, brightness, bass, and the treble of a note or chord.

Epiphone is a good brand they're just nowhere near as good as Gibson's guitars in build quality, electronics, style, look, and feel.

I myself actualy own an epiphone Les Paul and have been playing it for a few years now and since I upgraded to a Gibson Les Paul custom I was amazed at how much more a Gibson Les Paul could do and how much of a better, brighter, clearer, purer tone the Gibson could achieve over the tone of an epiphone and I knew it was the pickups and the quality of the materials that is used and the labor intensive craftsmanship that is needed to make a Gibson Les Paul.

actually epiphone is owned by gibson, its pretty much the same thing, just poor setup [anyone who has actually bought a new guitar nows its very rare to find a good factory setuop] and materials that are lower quality [wood, pickups, u call it] but epis are damn good instruments, just go to guitar center and try one yourself, youll notice they beat the hell out of virtually any other guitar in theyr price range ;D

u absolutely don't know what u are saying, get an epi les paul standard, spend 50 bucks on a good setup, another 200 bucks at the humbuckers YOU want and you got yourself a quality guitar that sounds even better [due to pickups] than a twice as expensive gibson.

i own an epi les paul standard UN-modified, and i can assure you, quality is awesome, sound is awesome, factory setup is bad, but u can spend 2 hours fixing that, its a damn fine instrument made by gibson stanndards

i admit ive never seen or played a classic les paul, ive heard thy're really REALLY good guitars, it has to be true, and probably there actually is no comparison, but when i went GC to buy a new guitar, i tryed epi les pauls and gibson les pauls, i mean, the only REAL difference was the pickups, and the gibson with a slightly brigther sound thats all, i assure you, i was and still am surprised by the quality i received for the price, 3 times less than "The real deal" and VERY VERY like it

Epiphone are excellent guitars, without a doubt. I used to have a Epi Les Paul Custom (it's in my videos), but in ALL honesty, i've played the gibson variant of the same guitar, and the quality is like night and day.. And the sound is much better aswell. I COULD Live with either if i had the choice, but i'd have to get the gibson.
