I work with vets with PTSD & what a great example Louis is for them. I am appalled by the attitudes toward our modern-day vets though. They are accused of bilking the system & draining our economic resources. It has even been suggested twice that we require our vets pay for their own rehabilitation & med Tx.
Even a Judge proclaimed from the bench that she was concerned about the safety of those around PTSD sufferers, soldiers & not rape victims. No scientific evidence links PTSD & violence.
Just finished this book on my Kindle and plan to buy the hard copy. One of the best books I have ever read. My eyes were opened about the treatment of WWII Veterans. I am hoping my 15 year old son will want to read this book as well. I highly suggest this book.
I just finished reading this book- it is an amazing story and I am so glad it was told again and witnessed again. This is one to be remembered! Thank you Laura Hillenbrand for using your amazing talent to retell this story. Suzanne Ness
I now live near Los Angeles, and I am amazed at all the Californians, Phillipinos and Chinese people who are driving Japanese cars here. They seem to have forgotten the war crimes committed upon their people during WW2, including torture, rape, starvation, medical experimentation, genocide, and others. The Japanese government, to this day, has not apologized for the atrocities their soldiers and leaders condoned and committed.
@GTVAlfaMan Americans need to read more "unrevised" history. As they say if you don't read history your doomed to repeat the errors of the past. Bottom line is that GOD is in control and we need to wake up to that vital truth. He is the boss whom we should always praise and obey if we want to avoid more great wars like WWII.
I've been reading books all my life, and this is the best work of non-fiction I've every read. It is a truly spell binding story of the THE most extraordinary man who's story MUST be told and heard by everyone. How anyone could have cheated death over and over again, and also survive everything he had to endure just amazes me to no end. This is a book that has changed me forever.
I just finished this book last night and I am still thinking about this man's amazing story. I have read many WWII survival stories. This one tops them all. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Ha rodderboy. My daughter bought me this book for Christmas. Couldn't put it down, read it in one day. Stunning! I can imagine a very teary movie. Well done Hillenbrand
This is an amazing story about a truly exceptional man. My wife bought me this book for Christmas this year (which we celebrated on the 18th) and I finished reading it on Christmas Day. I simply couldn't put it down — it was an incredible journey. I can't recommend it highly enough.

If Hollywood doesn't make this into a blockbuster movie it proves they are DEAD!

Reading the book now. What an amazing story! Makes one appreciate (an understatement) what our veterans have gone throught.

Incredible story! This ought to be made into a movie because it will touch people's hearts and lift them up with divine inspiration.
