What happens when someone like a kid or pet is in the way when the solenoid fails and the air empties? Kid kids crushed? Thats a poor design, like nh4x4 said, doors need to stay open automatically instead of closing automatically.
Great work.. but it seem to need buffers to quite the contact when it's reaching it open and closed limits... and maybe some means of syncing the open and close rates.. Just my opinion
@bruno2260 im going to download this video, then cut all the times he just say "uh/um" and put them together, someone want to do a remix version of it?
Good job! Another poster made a good point, though: failure of the device should result in OPEN doors for safety. Doors open inward to rooms so that nothing can block the exit in case of emergency. Imagine trying to get out of a room with an obstruction blocking the door closed - inconvenient at best, life-threatening at worst. Also, don't assume that you'll be the only one in there. It needs to be simple enough that a child could open the doors if trapped in there.
its a good idea but you should add more air pressure to the closing sequence to allow for faster movement. as the closing is way too slow. and as for the opening its fast but still just a bit too slow but other than those to things its a neat idea.
You should use a motion sensor hidden in the top beam of your door to activate it opening. That way it will work like on the show maybe? Very cool though!
@JumbaChick85 Elevators generally use mechanical doors (next time you are on one, see if you can see between the inner and outer door, and you will see the mechanism and levers and rollers).
A pneumatic door is kinda like moving the door with a hydraulic piston arm - except in this case, it's air and not hydraulic fluid (hence, the name pneumatic)
Also another thing you might want to consider...I am not sure about code compliance and all that stuff, if nothing else for personal safety, but a backup way to open the door in case of fire or power failure. I doubt it would ever happen, but it is one of those just in case kind of things, as well as there might be some sort of local codes enforcing it as well. Good luck.
I have seen double pocket doors before using a pulley system to control both doors at the same time, which would make closing them smoother. I am guessing it would reduce the overall cost as well because you would only need one cylinder to control both doors. Just a tip, but yours is a good installation.
Also if you are curious, the sound effect for doors used in the show is obtained by pulling paper out of a full letter size envelope.
Cool job on the door. Only thing I could see would suck if someone closed the door with somone standing in the middle. Would it crush the crap outta you or do you have a saftey feature in place to where it won't close on someone like an elevator door.
awesome. I am building a 28" pocket door with a 30" pneumatic cylndar. Although it opens about a second slower than yours, it doesnt slam. Still i like your take on the project too, perhaps you can quiet it down with some padding.
Now you just need to hook it up to a Kinect for gesture-based access.

What happens when a lift (elevator) door closes when a kid or pet is in the way or a train door??

But the doors are awesome, especially the sound when their activated.

I'd suggest just adding an emergency valve so in an emergency you can still get the door open if there's no power

the doors open perfectly. the only problem i noticed was, when they close, there's a recoil on the right door. it kind of bounces back some.

They do over here in the UK! Goto a Supermarket and the doors slide open when the sensor detects you near the door.
skarovision 2 years ago 3
Yeah, thats the way they work here in Sweden to. But they are moved by a electric motor, not air pressure.

We got those all over the USA as well. lol

well u dont press but..but ther is sensor in concret
iam1lostboy 2 years ago
You need some kind of regulator so the doors appear to move at the same speed. Possibly a motion sensor or a key pad would make it pretty cool.
