In Math, the big O = ZERO, and NOT the word "NOTHING".
ZERO is a digit, a number on the NUMBER LINE. To the RIGHT of ZERO are the POSITIVE numbers, and to the LEFT of ZERO are the NEGATIVE numbers. Big O is NOT equal to NOTHING. It is equal to ZERO, a digit which has a place on the NUMBER LINE. If children were taught this from the beginning it would be easier for them to learn thermometers and other uses of negative numbers.
