  • reminds me of Mark Fuller

  • @jlh2667 THANKS! Yes, Eva Mae LeFevre had a big influence on my piano style, just as she did Mark Fuller and so many others. She really sort of set the standard for old time southern convention style playing. In her prime, she was as good as they come where southern gospel music is concerned, especially in her era. THANKS AGAIN! Mo Jo

  • Just as I suspected, Mike. You have been busy. I love this. Keep 'em coming!

    Naomi

  • @NaomiWadsworth Thanks Naomi! I'm happy you enjoyed it. Mike

  • nicely done

  • @bigboy10131969 Thank you very much! Mo Jo

  • Also, how do you do that beat? Do you have some type of brush sound or something becase every beat I hear something smacking that gives that special touch?

  • Hey Baby, I am back again....You are featured in the related videos by my Jesus Hold my Hand. .All I can say is I am honored to be friends with such a fine paino player and feller....

    Smiles, ~Joanie~

  • @Ivoryticklermama Well thank you as always my sweet friend; but I must say, the HONOR is MINE! We are most definitely of kindred spirit Joanie! HUGS! Moe

  • well this is amazing, you got the sheet music for how you do it this way?

  • @jlh2667 Well thanks; what a nice thing to say! No, I don't have sheet music on this one. This is actually just a little arrangement I came up with. You can find this old song in about any old shape note songbook. You can play around with it a little bit, perhaps start out slow and build the tempo as I did, plus put your own special and personal touch to it. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Thanks again for listening! Thanks also for the sub. Mo Jo

  • @MoJoPiano YOur right, the faster tempo makes it interesting but at 1:35 what is that called or is that just a solo thing? Oh something I hadn't said the first time: This is my fav. version so far and probably can be beat for a long time.

  • @jlh2667 Well thanks-a-million! I truly appreciate that! Mike (Mo Jo)

  • @MoJoPiano I also play it with a ragtime like kinda style and a blues thing in almost everything and a little jazzy but I enjoy the southern gospel style but I have trouble going up and down scales with more than 2 notes at a time. I can do two which the open chord being my favorite. But how do y0u do 0:22 - 0:28 and the 1:10 - 1:14 part and how do you do the 1:35 - 2:00 ? thanks a million and bless you

  • @jlh2667 When I get time, it may be a few days, I will send you a private email and talk a little about some of these techniques. Some of them are mine (the Lord gave them to me), others I "borrowed" from listening to other pianists. Like I said, I will follow-up with you on this; I have made myself a note to do so. Take care and God bless! Mo Jo

  • I finally found your Channel MoJo. I looked and looked for it. LOL I really enjoyed your piano playing. It is fantastic! Double Thumbs Up and lots of Stars! Hope you had a very Merry Christmas! And hope you'll have a Happy New Year! Ann

OUR friendship has been a true surprise in my life that I wouldn't take a "Gold Ginny" for !! ...

    ~Joanie~

  • Hey MoJo````I am back my sweet friend to listen again to the very first southern gospel piano playing that I heard on You Tube... I didn't know you and you didn't know me..---But you were so patient with me as I struggled to learn the basics of surfing, uploading and making new friends.....Thank you for all you have done for me. YOUR friendship has been a true surprise in my life that I would take a "Gold Ginny" for !!

  • @Ivoryticklermama Oh THANK YOU Joan! You are a precious lady! Hopefully in the days to come I'm gonna finally get some vids posted. I know I've been talking about it for months, but as you know, I've kinda got my plate full these days. When I get started, I'm probably gonna need your technical help and expertise. Old Moe is getting to old to learn much about this "techie" stuff! Honey, I wouldnt take a "Gold Ginny" for your friendship either! LOL! LOVE YA BUNCHES AND BUNCHES! Moe

  • You came recommended by Queen Joan... I absolutely LOVE Joan's music (and vids of her life on the farm), so I couldn't pass up hearing who she admired.

    Wonderful work!

    Thank you for sharing this.

  • @dravenousone Well thank you very much for taking the time to listen. I appreciate that! Yes, our mutual friend Joan is one of a kind, and I love her to death. • Hi Mike,

You have no idea how much I enjoy this video. I play it many time. I would love to hear more from you and to see video of you actually playing.

I try to play the piano but it is sad compared to you. Thanks...we love this gospel song played by you. Best Regard....Mike and Linda

  • Dear Mike and Linda, What a nice comment, and I sincerely thank you. When this was recorded, I really had no idea exactly where I was going with it or how it would end up (as is the case with many of the songs I play). Sometimes I just kind of make up my arrangements on the spot. The Good Lord helps me with that I guess. Thanks again for a most generous comment. Sincerely, Mike

  • Albert E. Brumley was one of the worlds greatest songwriters of all-time. He wrote the classic "I'll Fly Away" and over 800 other songs.

    Michael you can play!!!!!

    Michael

  • Thanks for a great and informative comment Michael. Yes, Al Brumley was truly one of the best, especially when it came to traditional southern gospel songs. He was also a very accomplished gospel pianist. He was born, raised and lived most of his life right here not far from me in Southwest Missouri. Thanks for sharing these facts Michael; many people do not know of him, but his songs are still being recorded. Thanks also for a nice compliment my friend. Take care til later! Mike

    Naomi

  • Thanks Naomi! I'm glad you enjoyed it. One of these when things "calm down a bit" I'm gonna try to get a video cam and post some vids of me playing. Thank you my kind friend for the generous compliment and the five-star rating. Your friend in SW Missouri, Mike

  • Mike, I am gonna come up there and BEAT YOU if you don't get a video camera and start recording.

``Think of it this way Mike. Consider it a ministry of HELPING OTHERS. The depressed, the sick, the ailing, the blind (hint-MaMa K.), not to mention all those who want to DANCE and do the jive, jitter bug, BOOGIE WOOGIE, hokey pokey, Charleston and no telling what else!

~And look at the marriages you could save with all those romantic love songs!

Surely I fit in there somewhere! JA.~La.

  • HA! HA! You crack me up Joanie! Now there's no way I could compete with you in the "cheering folks up" department, you've got that killer smile and personality, but my peeanner playin might save a marriage or two! LOL! One of these days when things settle down a bit up here, I'm determined to do it. Maybe this winter when the snow is flying. Thanks my dear friend for the kind words and encouragement. Your old Missouri bud, MoJo

  • I absolutely agree with Joan! Get a cam and start recording! :))

  • Love this piano version.

I do have a special connection to Albert E. Brumley. My aunt and uncle personally knew him.

Think he was from Cassville or Pierce City.

My relatives live in Monett. I lived there for a short time, even fished out of Lake Taneycomo.

It's very tempting to move back to the Ozarks

Where are you at? BTW I knew Shad Heller at Silver Dollar City He was a real blacksmith (Shad played the SDC Mayor / blacksmith on Beverly Hillbillies as you remember)

    It's tempting 5to come back

  • THANKS capt777737! How cool that your relatives knew Al Brumley. He was one of the greatest gospel song writers ever. Wrote well over 800 songs. I have seen Shad Heller many times but did not know him personally. I lived in Springfield/Branson for many years, but now live about 80 miles east of there. I have an aunt that lives right on the banks of Lake Taneycomo in Branson. Yes, the Ozark region is a nice place to live. Thanks again for stoping to listen and the comments. God bless you. Mike

  • I liked your video, it lighted my day. Praise the Lord. Thank you
