Hendrix was really good considering he didnt have many people to learn from. let me put it to you this way, could Hendrix do Eruption? Pull off a Yngwie Malmsteen or Paul Gilbert solo? I doubt it highly

That said, it's really too bad these guys and Bobby can't find a real singer who's more interested in making music than being a primadonna.... They are a devastating guitar duo!

Don't ever under estimate these interviews because they are spectacular. I love these kinds of things. I know they are supposed to be mostly for guitar players (which I'm still learning.....not there) but are great for anyone. Meas Triple Recto and the Peavy 5150's are essentially SLO clones with almost identical preamp stages. Back end of an SLO uses 5881 output tubes, a US made clone of the EL34's. Ed had his early marshalls converted to 5881s and loved the sound (tighter bottom and less shrill upper) and have more in common sonically with the 6L6GC which the Triple Recto and 5150's use.

Save up for an SLO. Pick up a cheap Peavy 5150 and have a tech swap out for a pair of NOS 5881 output tubes.

@rjw7032 5881 are ^l^ clones, just mil spec. You are right about the 5150 being like the SLO; the originals (block logo) were almost identical to them.I thought Ed has his Marshall's converted to use the KT77's (?), which Soldano also offers as an option on the SLO.

@rjw7032 Some of Ed's amps used 6550's too. My bad on the KT77 thing though; Matt Bruck (Ed's former tech) states the Ed's main Marshall (the 68) used Sylvania 6CA7s, a slightly heavier-duty version of an EL34 and long out of production.
