Ok i just brought this phone home and would like to share my thoughts. First off i noticed the poor display quality. Terrible washed out colors. Second is the sound. My music seem to sound ok but watching videos the sound is real low both in quality and loudness. Third is it is taking forever to charge. Ive had it plugged in for almost two hrs and still only halfway charged. I have a bad feeling things are just gonna go downhill from here.
really to be honest no gameloft games work on lg esteem when u download em soonest u bout to play its gon either reboot yo phone or bring you back to homescreen i guess lg esteem is not compatiable for gameloft games and asphalt 5 works but when you playing you have no sound at all i uninstall it so for anybody they want to know if this game good on gaming like gameloft games dis phone aint the one
@MrGuttafresh If that's case you need to contact Gameloft and let them know. That's something they need to look at from the coding side of it. This is one of the problems with Android, fragmentation, there are so many makes & models of phones, running everything from version 1.5 to 4.0 and all with the tweaks made to Android like Sense, MotoBlur and TouchWhiz... and Devs can't possibly test every combo before they release. Best to contact the app dev when this kind of thing happens.
@jmeadow033 Metro's service isn't all that great. It drops a lot of calls and since I've had an android phone things have gotten worse for example my service com es goes in and out making it impossible to use the internet or make a call. I had sprint before coming too metro pcs and there service is about the same but metro cheaper of course.
@catsareahwesome Yeah the camera is pretty good, the phone can fit in a front jeans pocket, although I prefer carpenter style jeans with pockets on the side, which is more comfortable.

Both T-Mobile and Page Plus allow u to bring your own phone for use. And with T-Mobile, if its one of there 4G phones, Like say, the MyTouch 4G. Then u will have 4G service. U can use ANY T-Mobile "Locked" phone with there Monthly 4G service or u can use any "Unlocked" GSM phone. With Page Plus, who runs on Verizon's 3G network, U can use ANY Verizon phone. Like an Verizon Motorola Droid X2, And only pay $55 a month for Unlimited Talk, Text and 500MB Data. All on Verizon's network.

And in all honesty if you want to complain that these are not "4G" speeds, then all "4G" carriers are full of it. True 4G speed is supposed to start at 100MBs and no one, not one carrier is even close to that.
@zerouniversaldrift, Don't act retarded. All I was saying was that Metro Pcs 4G data speeds are more like what other carriers have as 3G. When I was with T-Mobile 6 months ago, I was averaging between 3-5MB down and 1-2MB up with my MyTouch 3G.

The reason why I say "I don't Understand" is because this phone is good, Just NOT with Metro Pcs. Its like owning a Bugatti Veryon as an everyday car. U are driving a BAD ASS super expensive exotic car, But can only drive on public roads and Hwys. Not to mention how BAD Metro Pcs service is compared to other Pre-Paid service. T-Mobile and Page Plus are the 2 BEST options for prepaid Smart Phone service. Though if u want 4G speeds T-Mobile is the ONLY as of right now that offers that service.
Those are NOT 4G speeds, More like decent 3G. I am currently with Virgin Mobile and I have peeked up to 2.4MB Down and 700Kbs Up. Now thats "Peek", Which means the fastest I have gotten during "Off Peak" Hrs. So between the times of 9pm-8am. Otherwise I average between 400Kbs - 900Kbs Up. Still not too bad, Much better then Metro Pcs. What I don't understand with people buying this phone and using it on Metro Pcs is a mystery to me.
My dad recently got this phone. He has Metro PCS and doesn't get 4G service ANYWHERE and we live in Orlando. Because it balls back to 1x the phone is pretty useless apart from basic features.

i was thinking about getting another battery not from metro though. the phones battery that metro give you has to be weak so if you changed it to a sprint battery or whatever the phone should last longer. reply if you already tired this
@thbplayboy The carrier (MetroPCS, Sprint) has no bearing on the strength of the battery, you want to look at the mAh (miliamp hours) rating, the higher the number the longer the battery lasts, but the bigger the battery usually is. The Esteem's (and the Revolution) standard battery is 1500mAh and is the same for Metro or Verizon, the extended battery is 2900mAh, twice as much and twice as big
Metro told me the reason my 4G stopped working is bcus i installed a battery saver app. He say it dont do well on these phones if u dont kbow how to properly use it ( which i didnt ) had to do a hard reset just so my 4g could work again. Now im back n business. I looove this phone!!

@YoungLos707 Try turning Airplane Mode on until the plane shows up where the signal bars should be and then turn off Airplane Mode. If that doesn't work go to Settings-> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> uncheck Data Enabled for about 30 seconds and then re-check the box for Data Enabled. If neither of those work, reboot the phone... if that doesn't work call MetroPCS Customer Care and have them Refresh your account. If none of those work, run the LG Update for the Esteem.
@zairo5p That's one of the issues the update from LG is supposed to take care of. When this happens put the phone in Airplane Mode (pull down Notification bar and click the Airplane) until you see an Airplane by the battery indicator and then turn Airplane Mode off, it should kick 4G back on.
@prodigy6167 Video chat only works well in 4G or WiFi, you could try 1x but some video chat apps won't even let you start up in 1x and others will, but are very, very choppy.
@nailsyoudown The phone is currently $349, there is a $100 mail in rebate, but I'm unsure how much longer that will be available. I thought it was over on December 23.

@sourpatchtkids The default Music player is pretty good, and there are a lot of other players available in the Market, including the new Google Music Player which ties in the with the Google Music Service. iTunes doesn't work with Android, but the Android Market now has a Music store, plus there's Amazon and others as well. @mleaniepie The battery is ok, lasts about 8-12 hours with light-medium use. For best battery life, keep the phone connected to WiFi whenever possible, or get the extended battery or charging dock w/spare battery. 4G speeds are way better than Metro's 1x and 3G speeds, and depending or the area, average between 1-5MBs, with some people stating they get closer to 8MBs.
@mleaniepie you should wait before getting it.. a lot of us are getting a defected phone.. it reboots by itself like 5 times a day and for some of us it reboots every 10 minutes.. wait until they fix this problem before getting your esteem.. i wish somebody would have said something before i bought this damn phone.
@vilescythe24 Not saying that that stuff doesn't work, but apps like that can cause more problems then they fix. Android uses memory a lot differently then most people are used to, and tend to think of Android like their PCs running Windows where the more available RAM the better. Android likes to keep RAM in use to speed up switching from app to app and only really needs a minimal amount of free RAM.

@krissyVT If you're only connecting to your PC to charge then after you plug your phone in to the PC go to Notifications -> USB Connected -> Charge Only -> Done Otherwise, when in Mass Storage Mode, the PC wants to access the SD card and only one device at a time can do that, meaning your phone can't see the SD card any more and that's where your music and ringtones probably are.
@krissyVT Could be a bad SD Card not wanting to remount. I would back up all the pics, music and ringtones on the SD card to a PC and then , from Settings -> SD Card & Phone Storage I would Unmount the External SD Card, then Format the External SD card and then transfer the music, pictures and ringtones back to the SD Card

@miltonluvsit The 4 for $100 seal is only for non-smartphones. Your best bet would be to put the 3 regular phones together for the 3 for $90 and have the Esteem on it's own plan. 4G plans absolutely can be placed on the "Family Plan", all they family plan does is take $5 per line off of each phones service per month, it's not a combined plan.
@LiddoYungstah I haven't tried any battery saving apps. I tend to stay away from optimizers and task killers and such, as they tend to cause more problems then they fix.
@JazelleJ14 Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> uncheck Enable Data this disables/enables all data 1x included. In order to isolate just 4G you would need an app like LTE On/Off
@MultiHulk1993 There isn't a stand alone app that works to change LED notifications, but some SMS apps like Handcent and ChompSMS seem to work. The HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is used to connect your phone to a HD TV or monitor and allows you to mirror your phones output to that TV or monitor. So you could watch Netflix on your TV through your phone, among other things. A mini-HDMI to HDMI cable is needed.
@zerouniversaldrift eBuddy (Multi IM chat client) Has option to choose colors for LED if you have one and it works, you can choose between Green, blue, red and combinations like yellow purple, indigo, white but LG or Metro PCS cut off option to choose your own colors along with 4G tethering and some other stuff.
@Shayd93 I'll add eBuddy to my list. As far as the color of the LED, I think it's just a limitation the the type of LED used. And as far as the tethering, yeah it's turned off and Metro has started blocking people from illegally tethering for a few reasons. 1st and foremost it's against the Terms and Conditions, 2nd Metro isn't set up to be a ISP and tethering puts additional strain on the network, 3rd Metro doesn't have much bandwidth they can't be giving what they have away for free,
@zerouniversaldrift MetroPCS also screwed up Streaming media limitations, it will block Gmail, market but it won't do anything like Pandora radio and other streaming internet radios

@zerouniversaldrift Pretty much, Youtube is also blocked, don't forget that but yes, i am able to listen to internet radios with limit reached, they just failed to block it instead they locked stuff that takes LEAST data
@JazelleJ14 Any contacts in your Gmail account that have Gmail addresses should already show up in your Google Talk list. If they don't: while on the Google Talk main screen (contact list) press Menu -> Add Friend and then enter their email address. If they have Gmail they will get an invitation request in the "Chat" area under their Folder list on the left of the page. Non Gmail contacts will get an email directing them to create or sign in to a Google Account.
@reekaree You can try, the Esteem does run Flash content like that but those games aren't really meant to be played on a touch screen. Best thing to do is open MetroWeb got to Menu -> More -> Settings _> make sure PC Browser Mode is checked and try logging into Facebook that way. No guarantees it will work well, but you might be able to.

@reekaree Well, like i said the FB games aren't really meant to be played on a phone, they're meant to be played on a larger screen with a mouse and keyboard, so honestly the phone itself has nothing to do with it, and any phone capable of playing Flash content would be the same way. You might want to buy a cheap netbook if your main interest is FB games... a phone, any phone, isn't gonna make you happy in that respect.
@TheJohnnylee25 Yes it does. There is a pre-installed app called IM and Social that works with WLM and there are several other IM apps available in the Android Market that work with WLM as well.
@MultiHulk1993 There are no settings for LED notifications in the default settings of the Esteem. Some apps like Handcent SMS have LED settings, but that's about it.
@MultiHulk1993 As far as changing the LED colors... kinda. The apps that allow it usually give color options like green, blue, red, yellow, orange and so on, but as far as I could tell you can only set the LED colors to red, blue and green since those seem to be the only colors the LED on the Esteem can handle... you'r experience may vary.

@sourpatchtkids The default Music player is pretty good, and there are a lot of other players available in the Market, including the new Google Music Player which ties in the with the Google Music Service. iTunes doesn't work with Android, but the Android Market now has a Music store, plus there's Amazon and others as well. @mleaniepie The battery is ok, lasts about 8-12 hours with light-medium use. For best battery life, keep the phone connected to WiFi whenever possible, or get the extended battery or charging dock w/spare battery. 4G speeds are way better than Metro's 1x and 3G speeds, and depending or the area, average between 1-5MBs, with some people stating they get closer to 8MBs.

@mleaniepie you should wait before getting it.. a lot of us are getting a defected phone.. it reboots by itself like 5 times a day and for some of us it reboots every 10 minutes.. wait until they fix this problem before getting your esteem.. i wish somebody would have said something before i bought this damn phone.

@vilescythe24 Not saying that that stuff doesn't work, but apps like that can cause more problems then they fix. Android uses memory a lot differently then most people are used to, and tend to think of Android like their PCs running Windows where the more available RAM the better. Android likes to keep RAM in use to speed up switching from app to app and only really needs a minimal amount of free RAM.

@krissyVT If you're only connecting to your PC to charge then after you plug your phone in to the PC go to Notifications -> USB Connected -> Charge Only -> Done Otherwise, when in Mass Storage Mode, the PC wants to access the SD card and only one device at a time can do that, meaning your phone can't see the SD card any more and that's where your music and ringtones probably are.

@krissyVT Could be a bad SD Card not wanting to remount. I would back up all the pics, music and ringtones on the SD card to a PC and then , from Settings -> SD Card & Phone Storage I would Unmount the External SD Card, then Format the External SD card and then transfer the music, pictures and ringtones back to the SD Card

@crazyluisito1 As far as I know on the Family Plan you should get $5 off each line, but you have to tell them each phone that is on the Family Plan or you won't get the discount.

@miltonluvsit The 4 for $100 seal is only for non-smartphones. Your best bet would be to put the 3 regular phones together for the 3 for $90 and have the Esteem on it's own plan. 4G plans absolutely can be placed on the "Family Plan", all they family plan does is take $5 per line off of each phones service per month, it's not a combined plan.

@MultiHulk1993 There isn't a stand alone app that works to change LED notifications, but some SMS apps like Handcent and ChompSMS seem to work. The HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is used to connect your phone to a HD TV or monitor and allows you to mirror your phones output to that TV or monitor. So you could watch Netflix on your TV through your phone, among other things. A mini-HDMI to HDMI cable is needed.

@zerouniversaldrift eBuddy (Multi IM chat client) Has option to choose colors for LED if you have one and it works, you can choose between Green, blue, red and combinations like yellow purple, indigo, white but LG or Metro PCS cut off option to choose your own colors along with 4G tethering and some other stuff.

@Shayd93 I'll add eBuddy to my list. As far as the color of the LED, I think it's just a limitation the the type of LED used. And as far as the tethering, yeah it's turned off and Metro has started blocking people from illegally tethering for a few reasons. 1st and foremost it's against the Terms and Conditions, 2nd Metro isn't set up to be a ISP and tethering puts additional strain on the network, 3rd Metro doesn't have much bandwidth they can't be giving what they have away for free,

If they don't: while on the Google Talk main screen (contact list) press Menu -> Add Friend and then enter their email address. @reekaree You can try, the Esteem does run Flash content like that but those games aren't really meant to be played on a touch screen. Best thing to do is open MetroWeb got to Menu -> More -> Settings _> make sure PC Browser Mode is checked and try logging into Facebook that way. No guarantees it will work well, but you might be able to.

@reekaree Well, like i said the FB games aren't really meant to be played on a phone, they're meant to be played on a larger screen with a mouse and keyboard, so honestly the phone itself has nothing to do with it, and any phone capable of playing Flash content would be the same way. You might want to buy a cheap netbook if your main interest is FB games... a phone, any phone, isn't gonna make you happy in that respect.

The apps that allow it usually give color options like green, blue, red, yellow, orange and so on, but as far as I could tell you can only set the LED colors to red, blue and green since those seem to be the only colors the LED on the Esteem can handle... you'r experience may vary.
