I'm not sure if it is against the rules or anything, but start the level with a starman. You should be able to get 458 with that.

Oh, and I don't know if it helps or anything, but try tilting the platform at the end so it you run down it.

yeah, i know you can start the level with the starman to save time ... but i'm doing these level speedruns as practice for a full game speedrun. Obviously, i won't have a starman to use when i do a full game run.

Can't start with a starman, this is preparation for an actual full-game speed run.

Regarding improvement, you should be able to bump it to 455 by jumping over the question box at :34 and at :39 if you jump on the very edge of the bricks over the pipe, you can jump again and bounce of the brick above onto the platform below the Pirahna Plant, avoiding two small uphill slopes that cause slight speed loss.

If you're going to have Propeller Mario in this level, shouldn't you're 1-1 route include getting the Propeller Mushroom?
