"RC Helicopters are absolete , they are way too complicated, expensive and DANGEROUS than an octocopter of the same weight." So yes, the flight time is the only advantage of a gas engine. But it is still way too dangerous and way too complicated to mentain in working order. The vibration are one more disadvantage of the gas engine. Soon batteries will be ten times stronger than actual li-po but even now, the ease of use in small places make multicopters a better choice.
I am very happy to see the vidoe interview with Ross Addiego and his gas powered helicopter rig. Ross address the issue of safety in the video from you, hopefully the others also are happy for You

Your Video Here is a little interview with Ross Addiego and his gas powered helicopter rig. Ross address the issue of safety in the video Is Very Useful Sharing
@dramida and you base that on? your statement is simply untrue. you cant get the flighttimes or the payload with an octocopter that you can with a gaspowered heli.
This is a vario benzin with modified landing gear. Make yourself a favor, learn to pilot safely before attempting to fly such a beast. I know what i'm talking about, I had a bergen, which crashed because of a radio issue, the thing almost ruined a brand new car.
@red12dirt i feel the distance concerning what is semi pro and expert is small now. d7000 is perhaps all many of us need. visit... freedslr dot com change dot with . and get a way to bring home completely new Nikon D7000
I think you need a more experienced heli pilot. Mashing the left stick full negative collective was a reflex almost all new R/C heli pilots perform when they get uncomfortable in a low hover. You would be smart to invest in a flybarless setup with self-leveling capabilities. I really like your rig, wish I could fly it for you. It looks like you were out near the high desert in CA.
@cirkus197817 Why is a flybarless setup better? I thought a flybar helped with stability although admittedly I know next to nothing. I'm thinking of getting a Trex 700 E to go with my Canon 7D, never flew RC helicopters before though, looks kind of difficult!
@comoradh A flybarless setup is better for several reasons. Less parts, more stable (electronically), less rotating mass, more aerodynamic, longer flight time, infinitely tunable, and the ability to easily run multi-bladed rotorheads. Go to my videos and see how stable my 700E is.
@cirkus197817 Hey thanks for the reply, your setup looks sweet. Is Skookum something like Flymentor or Co-Pilot II or is it something else entirely? I take it that such a device is an absolute must if you get rid of the flybar? Also can I ask you what simulator you used and how many hours you put in on it before you tried flying for real?
@comoradh The Skookum 720 is a virtual flybar. It replaces the flybar with electronics. It has 3 gyros and 3 accelerometers. It also incorporates the receiver if you choose. I've used almost every simulator over the years. I use Aerofly 5 right now. I also like Phoenix but it doesn't run on my Mac and Aerofly does. I've been flying RC planes for 22 years and helis for about 10. But I've only recently dedicated myself full time to helis. I spend about 1 hour a day on the sim.
@cirkus197817 I'm sure you are a great pilot but Flybarless is no good for Aerial Video yet as it corrects its self to much as do stabilisation devices and they ruin your final video shot. best way is the old fashioned way I'm afraid.
@Ibringthetruth1 pro photographers are never worried about that. My friend shoots for ESPN and Sports Illustrated and he just had a Nikon body and 500mm lens destroyed by a parachute on a drag racing car when it caught it as crashed into the wall it was mounted on. Me on the other hand, would def be worried because I dont have enough cash to just go back out and buy a new camera etc lol
I assume you would need a permit to fly within city limits, and some sort of insurance coverage. I'm referring to cities in the USA and Canada, such as LA, NY, Vancouver, Toronto.
PS .... He doesn't cover the issue of safety at all, 1:40 to 1:53 is his "safety first" advice?
Where can I get a helicopter rig for my HDSLR like this? Are they sold with this setup or would I have to buy a standard R/C or gas powered chopper and rig it myself?
@anestivega 1 hint - google it! there are several companies out there that sell you either the whole package or just the heli oe just the rig.. first look up 4 urself, then start asking stupid questions! and ofc it needs to be gas powerd, you want to lift quite a load! calculate with about 10000 usd for the whole thing...
dumb people ask dumb questions, smart people ask google.....
@did4h2k It does not have to be gas powered. You rant on as if you know what you are talking about, but are completely wrong. The electric motor heli's are far better suited for this DSLR shooting as they have far more stable, no rumble from the combustion engine, and far quieter, which is great for shooting nature and in general being less invasive.
@did4h2k Do you have to be a dick head? It seems for some, the process of leaving a YouTube comment triggers some sort of subconscious notion to be rude and condescending. That, coupled with improper grammar and misspellings make you look like the idiot. For the record, I was inquiring about where they got this model specifically.
@anestivega no, not necessarily. but do you have to be lazy? i know, its easier if others do the work, so follow this link, might answer some of your questions... tinyurl(.)com/3yq3bq9 (remove the () )
also the cinema5d logo in the beginning might be a hint where to find answers.

can you keep the heli stable enough to use large apertures & keep the subject in focus ?
I have seen small airship designs that could do that, but those do 10mph at best
and it takes about an hour & a half to get them air-born.
