周小燕生於1917年, 仍健在. 為中國音樂史上首代聲樂歌唱家. 早在1938年赴法國求學. 在戰後1956年回中國發展歌唱教學事業. 更早在回國前已在歐洲成名, 她的花腔令西方國家所驚嘆. 她亦精通英語, 意大利文, 德語及法文. 在文革期間, 飽受批鬥折磨. 文革結束後, 重投教育工作, 亦引進西洋歌劇. 同時亦作育英才, 造就不少現今活躍在國際聲樂舞台上中國知名歌唱家.

I just heard several women singers singing this song. I think Chau is still the best. Her interpretation of the song is excellent.

Amazing how well Chinese fits the voice, soft language. I would like to hear say Che Gelida in Chinese, that would be interesting. This sounds like it would be hard to sing well the way she does it. It's in a difficult place in the voice but she does it very well.

Brava. She was a wonderful singer and an even greater teacher. She taught my grandmother at the Shanghai music conservatory.

Really? She is my dad's cousin. I met her in Shanghai back in the early 90s. She is fabulous even at her age.

Yes my grandmother actually worked as an assistant professor under Mme. Zhou after she graduated from the conservatory.
