  • Kudos to you.

I mean really, you did something extraordinary here, and I salute you, good sir.

  • @Commodore4life Thank you, brother!

  • Nice!!!! Great job. Excellent performance. Many stars.

    Peace,

    Bobby

  • Great job, Bing. Fun use of those two tunings.

  • Awesome Man!!! 10/10!!

  • Could you play like 60s songs on the dulcimer? I would really want to hear someone play Pinball Wizard be The Who on it. :)

  • Search "Pinball Wizard" and "dulcimer" here on YouTube - you'll find it!

  • I can't believe someone actually did something like this! I'm eleven and I am so amazed by what people can do with this instrument. This is telling that anything you can do on the guitar you can do on the dulcimer better!

  • My god, man. A wonderful job, and a beautiful dulcimer! How much did that thing cost you?

  • Thanks! The one I'm playing there is a Clemmer - it cost $850. The one I play now is a Folkcraft, which retails for $2000 (see episode #121)

  • That rocks dude! 5 stars

  • Thanks!

  • Brilliant, thats really made my day =] thankyou, 5-stars and favourited. -wonders if i could ever learn to do that-

  • Thanks! I'm sure you could pick this up - if not with a double-fretboard, then with two dulcimers. : )

  • I meant - you're not only educational, you are inspirational!

  • Nice - haven't heard that song in more than 30 years. Sounds great on the mountain dulcimer. You're quite the musician!

My New Years' Resolution this year was to learn to play a mountain dulcimer and had one made - a 6 string. Ha, ha. Not quite as easy as it looks but I'm loving it.

Thanks for the pod casts - you're not educational, you're inspirational.

  • Thanks for the kind words! Starting off with a six-string is not an easy task, for sure! But folks do it - just like Robert Force. You're one of the few people who have actually heard this song back before it was "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy." : ) Thanks again!

  • Hi! Good work! I love this song. 5 stars and it goes to my favourites. You´re a great musician!

  • Thank you, I appreciate that!

  • It looks like something from another planet, but you a great sound from it and it's a great performance. All the best. PVS

  • Thank you, I appreciate it? Have you seen my new double-neck?

  • I'm in love with this song and that was a great job!!

  • Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!

  • Impressive. :)

  • Thanks!

  • Big fan. Keep up the great work.

  • Thank you, I appreciate it!

  • ok i cannot figure out how to tune a dulcimer, i just got it and i am really frustrated, it sounds like a guitar right now. HELP!!

  • Try Episode #8, which covers stringing up and tuning your dulcimer!

  • I love this song, but your version is more like from hitchickers guide to the galaxy, then from the Eagles and it's better

  • Thanks! That's a huge compliment. Of course, I'm more of a HGTTG fan than an Eagles fan. : )

  • That would be great if this was episode 42.

  • LOL! Nice! And I should've been wearing a pair of Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril-Sensitive Sunglasses. : )

  • Hey hey Don't Panic

    :-)

  • Outstanding...incredible, you are one of a dying breed...thanks for keeping this beautiful instrument "alive', and such an apporpriate song...a true musical marriage...

  • Thank you, so much!

  • Great stuff!

  • Thank you, thanks for watching!

  • Very funky

  • Thank you!

  • Thank you for posting. This is Great!

Harmonious tones. Love the cross-over technique.

First Dulcimer performance I've seen on YT. Journey of the Sorcerer. : )

Thanks again. Would Love to see you play Live.

    Aloha ~

  • Thanks! In which part of the nation are you? I may already be coming through there.

  • Wow. Beautiful as always. I love how your always interpreting different kinds of music onto the dulcimer. I hope my attempts at turning classic videogame music into dulcimer tab turn out this well.

  • Thank you - now that would be cool. Butch Ross has tabbed out the Nokia phone ring and it works really well. Can't wait to hear some Mario and Donkey Kong on the dulcimer! Maybe Crazy Climber too?

  • Well Ive already started on Mario and Donkey Kong would be cool too. Ill have to get a hold of crazy climber to hear it but videogame music really isn't too hard most times...it just needs more embellishing to fill it out is the hard part since most tracks are so short. My big goal is to do Final Fantasy tracks since it was written by the famous composer Nobuo Uematsu. Look up Terra's theme.

  • You always rock, dude! I wish I still lived in Florida so I could hear you in person!

  • I'll make it out to your corner of the country one of these days - I've got a student out there, actually. Thanks for watching!

  • Really? Do they live close to Fishtail, MT; or do they live elsewhere in the state? :)

  • I have to admit I don't know where Fishtail is; but they've just moved to MT from Cali.

  • Hey Bing,

    Tooooooo!!!! Coooooeellll!! Five Stars.

    Thanks

    Jack

  • Many, many thanks, Jack!

  • Was that used in the Hitchhickers Guide TV series? Sounds like it.

  • You are right on, sir. There's some kind of convoluted backstory about the usage of that piece of music, how Douglas Adams had to go around the copyright issues and whatnot. Anyway - yeah - it was also used briefly in the film version (not nearly as great as the original BBC radio and t.v. series.)

  • Hey Bing, does that dulcimer have a pickups/pickups in it? If so, are they separate out, or summed?

    Q

  • Two pickups with a separation switch.

  • hey Bing...great rendition of this song. The crossover worked out really great. Did you try by any chance tuning to DGD on one fretboard and using the 1 1/2 to get the Bb. I was working on Free Bird with Turner and Jory back before christmas and thats what I had to do to get the Bb chord, but it worked out cause they were playing the tune in G anyways. Later Uncle.

  • Yeah, that would work well too, man. Since I have the near fretboard tuned to CGG mostly for my singing, that's the best alternative I've come up with. Gosh, what I need is a triple neck dulcimer. LOL!

  • yes, thsi one sounds full of yearning.

It fits exactly to the mood i´m actually in.

    Thank you, Bing.

    And greetings from Germany.

  • Glad you liked it - and blessings to you! Thanks for watching!

  • Now that looks like a fun one to play!

  • This one is pretty cool - I like the skipping across the fretboards - there are a couple more tunes I have that involve a lot more business on both fretboards. It's sort of progressive and very fun!
