  • Thanks for uploading. I think Dommie always played the villain. He is a superb talented actor, although his talents were never given the due credit.

  • Beautiful song...thanks!

  • The song is an adaptation from a Latin American melody, but nicely done by Sisira (adding even a nice thabla mix). Other three songs in "Kauda Hari" were Negena wetena (Ivor D & Victor R), Ridee kumari (Sisira & Indrani) & Elle gangulale (Indrani). I had the EP record of this film.

  • There is a Portuguese creole song with the same melody. (Video available in You Tube) Apparently the Sri Lankan Kaffir community believe that this melody is theirs. Nobody knows which came first. I would be grateful if you could let me know the name of the Latin American melody you mentioned.

  • Palitha;

This song is from "Mee Messo".., time line is , early 70's. It came just after "Binara malee". CT died in Aug 1977. Thanks

  • This is an amazing song and still you can enjoy even today..

Thanks a lot for giving this opportunity to listen to this song...

    All the best

  • If my memory is correct Malini did not play the lead role in this movie- She might have been guest actress. About Shuaibs comment - Sisira always had one up on his sleeve" Punchi Baba, Handapaana, Hithata Hitha - all had one at least one dynamic song.

  • She did play it though. In her mother's dying moments, it is revealed that the mother used to live in a large bungalow and it will pass to Malani at the mother's death. Malani and DR, caretaker, set off to the house but meet some resistance from Dommie and Sandhya.

  • An all time classic track and one of my fav. too.

    Thanks for uploading Upendra.

  • You're welcome.

  • Hi Upendra,

Show me a child who has not hummed this song ! This was one of the Sri-Lankan "pop" song of our childhood and thank you for this rare video that I am viewing for the first time. I could not have ever imagined that the music for this song was composed by Sisira!

  • Dear Upendra,

I forgot to mention, The Accordian player in this clip is, famous accordian player Victor Dalugama, he was the Husband of songstress Amitha Wedisinghe.

He played the accordian for most of the film songs during 70's.

  • Interesting..I have Amitha's "Pinna Mal" on vinyl record. :)

  • She sang " Eka mohothak oba sevane" with Mervyn Aiya. That was another lovely duet, still rings my heart.

    Palitha

  • Hi Palitha,

I know her as Amitha Dalugama and remember her singing a new style of song with HR in the mid-70s("Saman mal pipi" ?). Her voice is similar to Rupa Indumathie of "Eka Gangaka" fame. I liked the songs "eka Mohothak" and "Pinna Mal" mentioned by you and Upendra.

  • Shuaib,

Another great track is 'Ran doren enna payala' from the 70s with music by Victor Dalugama and lyrics by Karunarathne Abeysekara.

    regards

  • Hi Vidura ,

I remember the song" Ran Doren enna" - the music was great so was Amitha's husky voice.

  • Thanks Palitha mentioning the musicians such as Victor Dalugama. Probably his most popular composition was in the first record of 3-Sisters "Neth yuga rantharu....oba soyana kalu kella mamai" (written by Hemasri de Alwis, husband of another singer Irene de Alwis). I think Amitha got separated from Victor D & started going back as Amitha Wedisinga. It is true Victor D created most of her songs at that time. I think Amaradewa-Amitha classic "anothaptha vila" is also a Victor D creation.

  • Great clip, Thanks for posting, Dommie's expressions and acting is equal to any actor from Hollywood.

Also the great Thotawatta knows to get the best out of anyone.

I remember when Khemadasa Master failed to conduct the back ground Music for "HARALAKSHAYA" for Thotawatta's desire, He sacked him from the film and brought in Maestro M K Rocksamy for the back Ground Score. And the back ground Music of Haralakshaya was equal to any Holly wood movie, according to the critics in the 70's.

  • Interesting piece of information....it shows how great Rocksamy was...!!!

  • A classic.....thanks for sharing..!!!
