Oh dear, don't blame James' Mom for this. His Mother didn't abandon him, she took him to the store, and those two older boys began playing peek a boo with him. Their intention was to lure James away from his Mother, which they did. Even then Jon and the other boy had it planned. This is in no way, James' Mom's fault.

This is a bad story all around. I DO NOT defend these murderers, but they were 10 years old at the time. Would any of us want to be held accountable for what we did at 10 years old? Part of me wants them to pay with the death penalty, but how could that be really justified as they were just stupid foolish dangerous kids. I'm sure the people who came to this decision are having nightmares about it. This is tragic. Very tragic.

What I do think is that these killers should pay for their crimes, instead of being rewarded with brand new lives. But, because they were only ten, society determines that they shouldn't be responsible because they were only children. While you may disagree, which I'm sure you do, when children intentionally take a human life, they are no longer children.

Both these boys were given leniant sentences which meant no punishment was actually passed. This proven because it has now been reported that 28 year old jon venables has been arrested for downloading child porn! Still the justice system will not name him!!! Not only that but he'll be given a new name and another placement when he'll be released from prison. This is the saddest story I have ever heard.. I would never want anyone to go through that much pain as this three year old did. I hope someone finds this two boys and pays them back much worst than what they did!!! It enrages me to know they're walking free!!

@torre12 I agree, the American Judicial system is very ineffective, but Jamie Bulger was a little boy from the United Kingdom. This didn't happen in America. (not to say that it couldn't :-(

The 2 little boys who did this only spent a short time in jail ! They are now adults and are FREE!!!!!!! They are under witness protection and gave new identi. so no one would know who they were !!! They could be living next to you or u could be married to one of them!!! SAD

That is so horrible. Those "men" should stay in jail for the rest of their lives for what they did to that little boy. I say that they shouldn't be allowed ANY special treatment for all the torture and disgusting things they did to that sweet innocent little boy. They should burn in hell for the rest of their lives. Not get to hide behind a new identity. The only reason they are getting them in the first place is so people don't attack THEM the way they did that little boy.

This is so sick. How could someone do this to a little boy/girl? Why would anyone set these monsters free? Why should they get to live a normal life when this little boys family can't ever again. They should be locked up for the rest of there lives. Put them in general population in prison and let it slip about what they have done. They wouldn't last a day. My thoughts are with his family.

I heard they were relocated to Australia. Is this true? No wonder I wont let my children play out the front yard. How can a ten year old child act like this? Bet they had wonderful parents - pffffffffffttt. What parent lets a 10 year old wander around the shopping center anyway?? I feel so so sorry for the poor childs parents.
