  • I thought you had to make the tube and the heel together. So you just are basically making a separate thing right?

  • do you stitch 11 rows to get your yarn to the end of your 21-stitch series on the main needle? my yarn is coming from the center of my 21 stitches. please help me out! thank you!

  • Love -love this whole series. This lady is a fantastic teacher!!! I am now making socks and thank you- thank you-thank you!!!

  • I love these video's, thank you SO much for being prepared. You have no idea how nice it is to have someone speak like a normal human being instead of like Sonic the Hedgehog!

  • Dorret-Please tell me you know how to do half finger gloves! You are the only one on You tube that anyone can understand! Do you have any 'you-tube' videos on half finger gloves. You saved my sanity for knitting socks. Thank you

  • How do you know how many rows to make the heel piece? I don't want to accidentally make too many or too little...

  • thanks for the vid

  • How long should the heel part be before we "turn" it?

  • This is helpful, but I don't understand what you mean about "have your centre stitch as the middle stitch on the needle with half the stitches."

Do you mean the piece of thread hanging off the end from the beginning? Because if that is in the middle than the string connected to the yarn ball won't be accessible. I taught myself to stitch and so don't know any of the terms.

  • @SweatyBlueJeans

    Hi

You need to study the very first video - you may not have created the centre stitch. If you hav,e it should be self explanatory - when you share out the stitches, make sure the guide stitch ends up in the centre on the needle.

    Hope that helps.

    Dorret

  • This is fantastic!!! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Thabks this helps alot but when you put half the stiches on i needle do you just slip them on to the needle or do you knit them on.

    Thanks

  • i have since discovered that you can use two 16" circulars for the te entire sock....but thanks for the feedback!

  • Thanks for posting this video. I am trying to make a pair of socks for the first time and this really helps me out. I was thinking about going to a yarn shop and asking the girls their for help, but now I don't have to embarrass myself. Thanks a whole lot!

  • Thank you so much for putting this on the net, I would never have finished my socks without your help. It's easy to follow, and now I understand what the pattern is saying.

    Very grateful :-).

  • Good detailed video on on sock knitting. Thank you!

  • i tak tau ape ke jadah nye bende ni

  • couldn't we use circular needles?

  • most circular needles arent small enough :(

  • you couldnt, because when you have to work a certain part of it, for example the heel (which is in this video), you wouldnt be able to do it, since it's a circular needle..

  • You would probably have to use the magic loop method in order to do that. Most circular needles are not small enough in length to do so.

  • i've discovered that cat bordhi uses two circulars for socks....but thanks for the reply.

  • I don't understand where the end attatched to the ball of yarn is during all of this? :(

  • can someone help i got to the part where you purl knit purl knit the long part on the one needlebut it did something funny. i know hae the purl stitch showing on the wrong side and the purle stitch showing on the tube on the outside of the tube is that how its suposed ti look?

  • I just knitted me my 14'th pair of socks, this pair is mauve, I just LOVE them.

  • this is great but I have a lot of trouble hearing her speak, have the puter' up as high as it will go as well as volume on video.

  • hi :0 a year ago, while still in school i took a knitting class, and have been knitting scarves ever since, in fear of knitting on dpns. the few times i'd tried, i'd failed and pissed myself off. lol. but after watching your video, it all began to make sense! thx soooo much! now on making socks, part 2 :)

  • Thank you SO much- I LOVE these videos! I am currently working on the heel so hopefully soon I will have knitted my first sock! Once again, thank you so much! You make it so easy to understand. :)

  • I appreciate so much being able to SEE how to turn the heel. Written directions are confusing, but now I see how easy it is. Thank you so much!

  • finaly!! i understand ! so , you go in circles with the nedles.

  • Dorret, YOU ROCK! Thank you so much...I am working on my heel now and your instruction is a godsend!

I am recommending your instruction to my knitting friends and have you "favorited" on my iPod Touch right there in my little knitting bag!

  • Dorret you are marvelous I have made my first sock with your tutoial help. I use a round needle for the straight part of the leg and the foot. Replacing the dpn when needed at the beginning , heal, and toes.

    you must know how much you are appreciated. That makes the rounds faster with markers where the separation belongs. Sincerely ;

    Oma B.

  • I design my own patterns. The yellow sock is just an invetned number of stitches to get across the principles. The aim of the tutoiral was to show how you can control and understand the development of the individual parts of the sock and see actually how stragiht forward it is.

I hope that it gives you a soild foundation first to follow a pattern successfully and then the confidence to adapt or patterns or design your own socks.

    Regards
