This was so helpful! I only recently discovered that the d chord is a bar chord. I've been using my first, middle, and ring finger to hold down individual strings. Both methods seem pretty awkward though. Anyway, thanks! Also, you're funny :]
I don't know if it's my experience with classical guitar before taking up the uke, but I've always found it easier to use my first second and third fingers to play D. E is still an unholy nightmare for me though, so thank you for the tip about playing the chord one higher! :)
Love the alternate method for creating these two annoying/impossible chords that you show at around 3:10 - I think that's a much easier way for someone with weak/small hands who's just starting out. Thank you so much!
very helpful, thanks for posting

Is it base treachery to use different fingers? Barring with my thumb for those is a whole lot easier.

I bar the G, C, and E strings with my thumb when I'm playing the E. I have a week ring finger.

@TheCaliger Although, thanks for helping me find another way to play an 'E'.
I had been playing a different way, and let me tell you... It's worse than this.
Playing E is so muhc easier, now. xD
You know.... Since it's super easy like D, or C.
