If you really want to learn how to do it check out a 3d software package of your choice and start doing tutorials etc. and better yet find a good forum where you can ask questions regarding the 3d But it's hard work to get anything near good skills for a lot of ppl so if you are not really dedicated to it you probably can better not bother trying.
I use 3d Studio Max myself but there are others like Maya,Cinema4d, or Blender (free).....
..... So pick your choice and go do tutorials. I think most 3d packages offer a 30 day trial on their website so you can try it out and see if it's anything for you.
its always better to keep things simple, i think you could have done this animation with two camera shots, one to set the scene and then another over the top looking down upon it. Nonetheless, its not a bad effort. I check out some of your other stuff. Your modelling is gettin good, keep it up!!:)
I remember something else now. I was originally showing the book from the top while it opened, but I couldnt get it nice without deformations in the paper (crappy rig) thus I didnt make it visible until the whole book was open and the deformations were not there anymore.
So eventually I used the cam movements more in a way to hide crappy animation then adding to the atmosphere lol.
Time ran out sadly so redoing the rig was not an option.
I think there are people who can do a way better job on teaching one how to make a book animation similar to this, and i'm sure there are already multiple tutorials around that teach you most that's in this animation.
Also I did a crappy job at animating this so I can teach you how to do a crappy job at animating which seems pointless hehe. I'm planning to redo this scene in the future so I MIGHT make a tutorial or something similar of it then, if I got the time.
Google "3ds max page flip tutorial" and the very first link will be a tutorial on how to make a page flip in 3ds max.
It's not the method I used, but it seems to do the job.
The method I used for the pageflipping is very easy, just draw a spline, extrude it, and you have a page-like plane which you then can easily animate by keyframing the vertices and using the anchor points to create a curve on the surface.
u know it would have been a lot easier to use morph targets to do this, if you havnt heard of these before than i suggest you look them up. Theyre most often used for lip syncing but are perfect for these things.
Note that every time the cam is fully zoomed in at a page the movie is supposed to ´pause´.There is supposed to be a narrator reading each page while its zoomed in and ´paused´, but thats added later by the people I made this for, thats why I left out the 'pauses' because I had no idea how long it needed to be to fit with the narration, they had to add the pauses.
Sadly I never got the version with narration over it back.Damn free work without contracts for people you dont really know:-(
Thanks for the insight though, I know I tend to overdo things like this a lot (even with the pauses its probably too much cam movement), really gotta keep my eye on it with my next project.
Your camerawork seems pretty simple but it really seems to work, pretty nice work you got in your demoreel.

@schoenanimationz
Yea I know lol.
Read my comments here to find out why.
I'm redoing the whole scene at the moment though so I might be posting a new improved version soon if I don't get bored and go on with other projects.
If I finish it I'll be sure to pay a lot of attention to cam movement etc.

This is mostly made using a 3d program.

Thanks for the compliment, too bad I still pretty much suck at animation and rigging.

@ntothab why dont you make a tutorial on how you did this....

If you don't know how any of it works just look up the term in your max help files or in google. There's so much info out there...
And if you don't know you might want to do the basic tutorials coming with max first.

Thanks for the tip, I did use it before but have so little knowledge about it I thought it would not really work in this case.
I´ll try it next time I need to animate something similar, the bones didnt work that nicely.

very dodgy camerawork
tottman1 2 years ago
Yep I really suck at that.

why do you move it so much, just keep it in one, 2 places max, check out my animations to see how i use cameras.
