@id300129 The tunes were already part of this clip from the RAW program "Maybe Logic" well done and thanks to whoever created those sounds - I have no idea what they're called or who they're by.
It's like saying a 19 year old girl with fake tits, some nice clothes/hair whos skinny as hell and does coke has more value in society then a doctor that’s saved 1000’s of lives. If you want to play that game then you'll always be looking up to other peoples standards to determine your value.
but those people themselves don't even realize it, because a fish that swims in water it's entire life doesn't even know that water exists.
there is no objective reality that is any 'thing' we can know, 'things' only exist in subjective experience once what some deem the objective reality has been turned into whatever it is sensed to be by whatever sense it is, the question implies the answer.. you have to perceive something to perceive it, the means of your perception shape the result, ultimately i think the only thing of value is our subjective experiences. reality is not some mathematical formula outside of us, reality is life
Model based reality is the term we need to employ when making considerations about a contained reality which cannot be observed outside its own boundaries By no means does this dismiss the possibilty of events beyond the implied values of the system, it simply seeks to observe them
On this basis one may eliminate the contrived notion of spirit as it is perhaps nothing more than a projection of our weary pyschological selves, sorry gang Jesus was just a man until proven otherwise
Yes I look into muslims "Reality Tunnel" and they share their hatred of everything non muslim with me but when I leave their "reality tunnel" I find that they are in my "Reality Tunnel" and want to impose their intolerance and hatred on me. Has anyone checked out Jill Bolte Taylor's 'a stroke of insight' on TED? Maybe meditation is a temporary silencing of the left hemisphere.
@ClarksonsinUSA your senses are your tools for the physical world, in order to look past the physical world and see more for yourself, you need to be able to look past your senses, learning to meditate will start you off in the right direction, it's natural and normal. Also increased knowledge of everything in general is always helpful and if you have a good heart you will have a mystical experience. If you wanna see something crazy open your eye

kinda sounds like he's saying that believing in your perception is a false interpretation. I believe that people who dont think for themselves and follow a guideline for life, such as the mass majority of people influenced by media and entertainment look at reality in generally the same way because the roots of their thinking originates from the same place.

Apparently, *quantum mechanics clearly demonstrates* that we cannot tell. But how does it demonstrate this; given that, according to the logic of this video, we cannot trust that quantum mechanics is itself true?
Your first sentence shows the problem with "is"-your statement becomes a God like assertion. Instead try "I think of this video as bullshit". Secondly there can never be a 'truth' so both reality tunnels can be labeled as true or both false or one true and one false because truth is your opinion!

Further, everything that we observe changes, but what about us doesn't?

He pointed out the logical flaw in believing one can know an objective truth when the sum of human science and philosophy says that such a vantage point does not exist.
Yea Hitler had a hell of a reality tunnel. Nice that most of us fall somewhere between him and mother Teresa. Seems you can learn to duck or get out of the way of some folks when you see their reality building steam when they do not get what they want pronto. And others just attract like a magnet.
I don't need to see "real" reality. All I need is mine. It's good to broaden my horizons, but I won't let philosophical double talk stop me from making decisions in real life as I experience it. I just realized that this is the Illuminati guy, I still don't think this talk was meaningful, but that book was awesome.
Every statement is true in some sense, false in some sense - true and false in some sense - false and meaningless in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense.
And if you repeat this 666 times you will you achieve supreme enlightenment.
Steviepig, lovinsjoey: A seems to me to be A at this present time, as I observe it, based on my present understanding of what I observe and what I am using to observe. However, I am aware that A may actually be found to be B when I observe it in the future using a greater understanding of what I observe and what I am using to observe.
lovinsjoey, if reality is "A is A" what equaled Zero before we learned the concept from the north africans in the middle ages? Did the reality of Zero not exist in europe until the concept of Zero was introduced? If zero equals the concept of nothing, then nothing would have existed as nothing before the concept of nothing was introduced...modern math and engineering and the industrial revolution etc. couldn't exist without "zero." Alas, the status quo, "A is A," is not reality, but nothing is.
Agreed. Like pointing to a map and saying"see here in the legend, a green triangle represents a forest, not a house." It doesnt REALLY matter since the argument is contained within the structure that makes the...aw fuck it you know what I mean. C'mon The map is not the territory right.
you sound frustrated, unfortunately, sanity, as well as reality, is merely consensus, so if people don't agree with you, they'll call you insane, because you're the only one who can see reality, hence your need to get everyone to agree on your version of reality, well, don't hold your breath and don't worry, sanity is over rated...
This is so false. The conclusion of his statement would lead to a world run by madness and subjective conflict. There is no naivety in realism; this has always been the excuse of the philosophical establishment to continue to exist after they're purpose was concluded by "A is A."
Maybe Society is a nominalisation, an idea if you will.
Treating it as if it is a REAL thing and argueing over who's idea of what Society is or means is the 'right one' seems to be futile when dealing with such fundamentalist belief, Including that one.
I mean, show me a wheelbarrow full of society and I'll by into your theory, maybe.
When we start treating societies as nominalisations then the world will truly be thrown into chaos. Theories on the conduct of government are the only thing that has kept humanity going, regardless of the poorness in quality thereof. What I assert is a theory that will provide for a lack of government and a vindication of society; I am speaking of political philosophy, which comes before the men ponder the meaning of their perceptions.
dude, people look at things differently and from different vantages, thats the point. when they give into their perception and say "that's the whole picture" than they are naive.
@lovinsjoey (I know its madness to react to such an old statement of someone on the internets.) However, using terms like 'would', only proves yourself wrong. As using such terms makes your opinion unsure, and therefore lacks the the ability to backup your statement. You' re even more in tunneled realitiy than you might think!
@lovinsjoey Philosophical establishment? Are you suggesting people who think this way are in some kind of club? His point is that your aperture on reality is but an aperture on reality. Light is only light to us because we can see it, otherwise it's just an arbitrary band of the electromagnetic spectrum, the frequencies beyond our range of hearing that other animals can hear is not 'sound' to us. We rely on instruments to study those frequencies, and the results are relative to those instruments
E-prime translation:"to my mind, this man appears confused and helpless. Naive realism seems to be necessary to commit to action. I believe it is possible to be a prejudiced relativist. To me, this means you don't feel wrong about your prejudice. It strikes me as boring and senseless."
This man seems confused and helpless to me. Naieve realism maybe necessary to commit to action. It seems possible to me that you could be a prejudiced relativist. That might mean you don't feel wrong about your seeming prejudice. This maybe boring in some sense or to you or even possibly senseless.
This man is confused and helpless. Naieve realism is necessary to commit to action. You can be a prejudiced relativist. Just means you don't feel wrong about your prejudice. This is boring. Senseless.
I don't believe that 'truth' is one or the other. I am relativist, but life is meaningless and pointless without realism and so I live realism. Every honest relativist does the same, otherwise they would lie down and stop thinking. So yah, naieve realism is necessary and relativists who live life can be prejudiced.
then its a question! does it/life/everything need to be absolute? what if it isnt what if it isnt all solid and defined is the unknown always going to hurt/be bad/be everything we fear? i as in me dont think so and am happier with the openness of that perspective thanks to RAW. class i want to debate now anybody any thoughts =) 5star by the way thank you
If only the most powerful country in the world would elect a president like this. Instead we have a complete moron, surrounded my morons, elected by morons.
I should have known about this man so long ago... Thank goodness I wasn't the only one I knew that thought that there are as many universes as there are active consciousnesses.
What he is saying is self-contradictory. He essentially says that there is no absolute perspective, no absolute truth, and all truth and views are relative. Yet he presents this very idea/perspective ITSELF as an absolute. Not very impressive, just your garden-variety flawed relativism/post-modernism.
It seems to me that RAW does make the point in much of his writings that the ideas he proposes are as likely incorrect as correct, depending on your point of view.
I think that he's just uncertain about anyone having absolute truth. It's itself a belief, yes. But is saying "I don't know" a declaration of ultimate knowledge? I don't think so. It's rather its opposite.
The harder question is: Is "Nobody can know." an absolute statement of ultimate knowledge?
I don't think this is true either. It just extends your uncertainty to include other people's claims. It's just a sign of intellectual honesty as far as I can see.
I think you maybe right, the belief that no-one has absolute truth is in itself 'just' a belief. I've not heard (or read) RAW make the connection you have re: Don't Know=Ultimate Knowledge. If the comment DK=UK is directed at the last reply (aswan69)posted here then I still don't know what the question being asked was. The question you pose as the harder question is interesting to me. - Many thanks
It was intended as an answer to moopoo23's criticism, which I think is invalid, because it claims that any belief is a claim to ultimate knowledge. I don't think that this is necessarily true in claims of "lack of" knowledge, even in the stronger case.
Moopoo, your statement appears incorrect, where in the dialogue did he state the idea was an absolute? Let's be clear, you made that connection. Additionally you have taken the statement in context of a two minute sound bite, not having seen the full 'lecture' or *I assume* being familiar with any of RAW's other works. If you had the prior knowledge you would understand that Bob's philosophy of model agnosticism actually refutes itself because you must question even the model.
Not only is RAW a wonderfully intelligent and creative writer he is also an exceptionally fluent and thoughtful speaker. To echo the sentiments of Richard Bandler Bob is truly one of the geniuses of our time.
I think alzico was commenting on remarks left by a user called Moopoo who basically decided that the short clip here was an entire philosophy and all encompassing and was is Moopoo's opinion a 'crock of shit'.
Moopoo has removed their comments since, so alzico's (valid at the time) comments may seem out of place.

Every statement is true in some sense, false in some sense - true and false in some sense - false and meaningless in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense.
And if you repeat this 666 times you will you achieve supreme enlightenment.
.... in some sense.
Rest in chaos, Mr. Wilson!

If zero equals the concept of nothing, then nothing would have existed as nothing before the concept of nothing was introduced...modern math and engineering and the industrial revolution etc. couldn't exist without "zero." Alas, the status quo, "A is A," is not reality, but nothing is.
steviepig 3 years ago 2
Agreed. Like pointing to a map and saying"see here in the legend, a green triangle represents a forest, not a house." It doesnt REALLY matter since the argument is contained within the structure that makes the...aw fuck it you know what I mean. C'mon The map is not the territory right.

lovinsjoey...
i wish everyone agreed with you...
you sound frustrated, unfortunately, sanity, as well as reality, is merely consensus, so if people don't agree with you, they'll call you insane, because you're the only one who can see reality, hence your need to get everyone to agree on your version of reality, well, don't hold your breath and don't worry, sanity is over rated...

This is so false. The conclusion of his statement would lead to a world run by madness and subjective conflict. There is no naivety in realism; this has always been the excuse of the philosophical establishment to continue to exist after they're purpose was concluded by "A is A."

In your opinion..........
Think0n 3 years ago 12
no it is not. society itself is built upon AN OBJECTIVE REALITY. A is A! No matter what your squabbling ignorance.
lovinsjoey 3 years ago
Maybe Society is a nominalisation, an idea if you will.
Treating it as if it is a REAL thing and argueing over who's idea of what Society is or means is the 'right one' seems to be futile when dealing with such fundamentalist belief, Including that one.
I mean, show me a wheelbarrow full of society and I'll by into your theory, maybe.
Enjoy

A few words in a 2 minute clip
Think0n 3 years ago
When we start treating societies as nominalisations then the world will truly be thrown into chaos. Theories on the conduct of government are the only thing that has kept humanity going, regardless of the poorness in quality thereof. What I assert is a theory that will provide for a lack of government and a vindication of society; I am speaking of political philosophy, which comes before the men ponder the meaning of their perceptions.
lovinsjoey 3 years ago
dude, people look at things differently and from different vantages, thats the point. when they give into their perception and say "that's the whole picture" than they are naive.

@lovinsjoey philosophical??? Its well known. He talks about similar theme like The Social Construction of Reality.. And thats Psychological....
IHIICOD 1 year ago
@lovinsjoey (I know its madness to react to such an old statement of someone on the internets.) However, using terms like 'would', only proves yourself wrong. As using such terms makes your opinion unsure, and therefore lacks the the ability to backup your statement. You' re even more in tunneled realitiy than you might think!
LordTilo 1 year ago

It strikes me as boring and senseless."
quarknimble 4 years ago
Or:
This man seems confused and helpless to me. Naieve realism maybe necessary to commit to action. It seems possible to me that you could be a prejudiced relativist. That might mean you don't feel wrong about your seeming prejudice. This maybe boring in some sense or to you or even possibly senseless.
Think0n 4 years ago
countertreason, sir, you need to rephrase your statement in E-prime.

This man is confused and helpless. Naieve realism is necessary to commit to action. You can be a prejudiced relativist. Just means you don't feel wrong about your prejudice. This is boring. Senseless.
countertreason 4 years ago
That is your reality tunnel and it's as valid as everyone elses.
So, what belief(s) do you now believe more strongly?
That naive realism is necessary, or
It is possible for you to be a prejudiced relativist?
Think0n 4 years ago
I don't believe that 'truth' is one or the other. I am relativist, but life is meaningless and pointless without realism and so I live realism. Every honest relativist does the same, otherwise they would lie down and stop thinking. So yah, naieve realism is necessary and relativists who live life can be prejudiced.
countertreason 4 years ago
you seem more confused though.

then its a question! does it/life/everything need to be absolute? what if it isnt what if it isnt all solid and defined is the unknown always going to hurt/be bad/be everything we fear? i as in me dont think so and am happier with the openness of that perspective thanks to RAW. class i want to debate now anybody any thoughts =) 5star by the way thank you

What he is saying is self-contradictory. He essentially says that there is no absolute perspective, no absolute truth, and all truth and views are relative. Yet he presents this very idea/perspective ITSELF as an absolute. Not very impressive, just your garden-variety flawed relativism/post-modernism.
moopoo23 4 years ago
It seems to me that RAW does make the point in much of his writings that the ideas he proposes are as likely incorrect as correct, depending on your point of view.
Think0n 4 years ago
Then what IS the answer, chief?
aswon69 4 years ago
I don't claim to know what 'answer' IS the answer to the question. What is the question? :-)
Think0n 4 years ago
There is no answer at all.
It has never been there. This is why nobody has found it, for it doesnt exist. Like us!
VannevarBush 4 years ago
I think that he's just uncertain about anyone having absolute truth. It's itself a belief, yes. But is saying "I don't know" a declaration of ultimate knowledge? I don't think so. It's rather its opposite.
The harder question is: Is "Nobody can know." an absolute statement of ultimate knowledge?
I don't think this is true either. It just extends your uncertainty to include other people's claims. It's just a sign of intellectual honesty as far as I can see.
koenichfuerst 4 years ago
Hi There, Thanks for the comment.
Think0n 4 years ago
It was intended as an answer to moopoo23's criticism, which I think is invalid, because it claims that any belief is a claim to ultimate knowledge. I don't think that this is necessarily true in claims of "lack of" knowledge, even in the stronger case.
koenichfuerst 4 years ago
Moopoo, your statement appears incorrect, where in the dialogue did he state the idea was an absolute? Let's be clear, you made that connection. Additionally you have taken the statement in context of a two minute sound bite, not having seen the full 'lecture' or *I assume* being familiar with any of RAW's other works. If you had the prior knowledge you would understand that Bob's philosophy of model agnosticism actually refutes itself because you must question even the model.

"Intelligence is the capacity to receive, decode and transmit information efficiently.
Stupidity is blockage of this process at any point. Bigotry, ideologies etc. block the ability
to receive; robotic reality-tunnels block the ability to decode or integrate new signals;
censorship blocks transmission."
