Just another one ! I couldn't find only one remarkable good DT song until now. And I really tried hard. Spent a lot of hours hearing their tunes on YouTube and even lent some of their CD's in the public library. Sorry - these guys earn their money with nothing but a bit of craftmanship ... that means a lot, but that's it. In a few years I won't remember their name due to insignificance.

I think that Moore was the best keyboardist, but Derek was a good one too, DT sounded more musical with him than Rudess, we can see by Trial of Tears, Peruvian Skies, New Millenium and etc. All the records are amazing, but I think that this album with Derek reminds me the good times with Moore. It's from Hampton Beach, NH - 8/4/98, and I'm pretty sure it couldn't be included in 5YIAL because it was taped by Hudson Music for Portnoy's "Liquid Drum Theater" instructional Video/DVD and therefore they had the rights to use it.
@blessed7fold It's the same footage used on his 2nd instructional release "Liquid Drum Theater" (they also use footage from "New Millennium" and "Just Let Me Breathe") and there's a few clips from it on "5 Years..." ("Take The Time") where MP confirms the venue. It was a one-off show and notes that's it's easy to recognize the taping due to a) being focused on him as it was for his instructional release, b) it's not a great venue to play due to a very short stage, much like playing a club.
@blessed7fold I was also incorrect about any of this taping being on "5YIAL". I confused Hudson Music, who are a decent company and allowed MP to use unused footage from their instructional taping with the label "Magna Carta", who LTE recorded under and wouldn't allow MP to use those songs on his INSTRUCTIONAL release unless *someone* paid them for it (MP, Hudson Music, etc). It's been a long time since I was heavy into DT, and the prog fanboi knowledge is slowly slipping away from me... ;-)

He switched in November of 1999, right after "SFAM" was released. They had some prototypes ready in time for the tour but were still working on the 7-string model as well as the piezo bridge, which is why on the first legs of the tour (Fall '99 to Winter '00) he was using his Ibanez B&W "Cow" 7-string for "TDOE" as well as his "Desert Camo" Custom Shop model w/ Piezo bridge & Locking Tuners (which would have been the next color if he'd stayed with Ibanez - Google the name for pics) for "Home".

It's from Hampton Beach, NH - 8/4/98, and I'm pretty sure it couldn't be included in 5YIAL because it was taped by Hudson Music for Portnoy's "Liquid Drum Theater" instructional Video/DVD and therefore they had the rights to use it.

@blessed7fold It's the same footage used on his 2nd instructional release "Liquid Drum Theater" (they also use footage from "New Millennium" and "Just Let Me Breathe") and there's a few clips from it on "5 Years..." ("Take The Time") where MP confirms the venue. It was a one-off show and notes that's it's easy to recognize the taping due to a) being focused on him as it was for his instructional release, b) it's not a great venue to play due to a very short stage, much like playing a club.

@blessed7fold I was also incorrect about any of this taping being on "5YIAL". I confused Hudson Music, who are a decent company and allowed MP to use unused footage from their instructional taping with the label "Magna Carta", who LTE recorded under and wouldn't allow MP to use those songs on his INSTRUCTIONAL release unless *someone* paid them for it (MP, Hudson Music, etc). It's been a long time since I was heavy into DT, and the prog fanboi knowledge is slowly slipping away from me... ;-)

He switched in November of 1999, right after "SFAM" was released. They had some prototypes ready in time for the tour but were still working on the 7-string model as well as the piezo bridge, which is why on the first legs of the tour (Fall '99 to Winter '00) he was using his Ibanez B&W "Cow" 7-string for "TDOE" as well as his "Desert Camo" Custom Shop model w/ Piezo bridge & Locking Tuners (which would have been the next color if he'd stayed with Ibanez - Google the name for pics) for "Home".
