  • If any Neal Morse fans here haven't done so already, I highly recommend checking t his book Testimony. It is a rather short book, but very enjoyable and revealing as well.

  • About all the discussion: "I AM THE CATFISHMAAAAN, I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!"

    From a Christian.

  • The more I listen to SB...the more I realize how great this band was, is, are. I only "discovered" them in the early 2000's. I am going back and watching a lot of the older videos and purchasing some of their older music as well as their current.

  • You nailed it!

  • i think people criticize christianity because it is too REAL for them!

aside from that, music is music....if it is good music, i will listen to it, period! this is good music!

  • People criticize christianity because it touches a fragile part in everyone's heart: the truth of a hole in our hearts. It's not about Morse converting, but the hidden truth which some can't catch still, it's ignorance. I'm not judging, but I'm trying to waking up the comment-judges here on youtube. Leave your post for yourself before you judge about what someone should or shouldn't.

  • 2:30 HOLY CRAP THIS IS AWESOME!

  • Muito foda!!!

  • Neal Morse is the Beethoven of our generation!

  • prog rules ! punk is for drones of the fucking mainstream..which currently sucks

  • prog rules ! punk is for drones of the fucking mainstream..which currently sucks

  • LIKER.

  • I would say this should be the official international hymn of the prog ;)

  • This about this album however, great as it is, I think that that the "Water" track never really caught on, same deal on the V album, with "At the End of The Day" being incredibly beautiful, but "The Great Nothing", being all right, dosen't really live up to it's standard.

  • Wow.... I've never heard a song from this group before. Absolutely smashing. Bravo!

  • Long live Prog!!!! We will not go quietly!! Great Job Spock's Beard!

  • @xraycat30 So With You You Dude, Go Spocks Beard and Prog ^^

  • @FireLinkAnime Glad to hear it....and may prog live long after all of the light has faded. Capitalism, conformity, complacency and greed will not force us from existance. We will not go quietly!!!

  • Party Noise!.....heHE!!! hahahaha YES! One of my favorite beard songs. This live performance is fucking incredible.

  • Neal looks kinda like James Labrie with his long hair haha

  • Never heard before. Awesome! What for highlights In the categorie "Progrock"!

  • I just found this awesome band! Bought X

  • @paujoekrisjam

You should buy the Neal Morse records too: "Testimony", "One", "?", "Sola Scriptura" and "Lifeline". You'll love them!

  • They are right up there with Yes and Genesis etc.

  • Welcome fellow progheads! :)

This very video got me listening to Spock's Beard. This song is freaking awesome!

  • one of the best bands of the genre.... and this song is by far my top!!! with this one i fell in love with them...

  • A classic if I ever saw one. Spock's Beard still rule, but Neal Morse was the real genius. Being a prog-head is awesome, makes me feel good compared to those stupid commercial music fans.

  • For being a prog nerd i really have missed something, Go neal!!

  • This band is really great. I don't see why they are not bigger. My favorite song: "The Doorway"

  • reiner Wahnsinn

  • Fuc*ing Good!!

  • ive got tickets for transatlantic at shepherds bush,my 1st time seening neil morse and i will be up the front.love spocks but to see the morse geezzer up front will be wanking material!

  • Marvelous!! So odd to see Neal with long hair. Alan has one of the oddest ways of playing I've ever seen.

  • Briliant!!! Just brilliant....

  • one of the greatest bands! thanx for postin

  • Just brilliant! I never get tired of this...

  • I'm 3 and a half minutes in and I'm blown away already :O

  • Many people criticize Morse for being now a Christian . But do not realized yet that he only discovered he was a Christian. Many of his lyrics was about searching for light and truth. Even in Transatlantic . Nobody asks about Jon Anderson lyrics with new age thematic . Nor with the atheist vision of Rush .

  • @ZeroWhiteNothing I don't criticise Neil Morse for being a Christian but I don't think his lyrics suit the prog style of SB and Transatlantic. Jon Anderson's lyrics weren't about anything in particular and complemented the music perfectly. Neil Morse's lyrical ideas can occasionally drag the music down to the level of happy clappy Sunday morning in the pews.

  • @GrindlayPro1 Well so you must forget the solo album of Rick Wright Broken China ( with a different style of Pink Floyd( my favorite band) , and also dislike the works of the genius Rick Wakeman ( a Christian). And if you see The Revealing Science of God by Yes , it is all about religious issues . And about " happy clappy Sunday morning in the pews", Gentle Giant is totally this( listen Friends), and it is one of my 5 favorite progressive bands . Anyway Progressive can´t be like Death/Grind.

  • @ZeroWhiteNothing (The Yes bootleg you refer to is just that, it isn't part of the official Yes catalog). Rick Wakeman is one of my heroes and so is Bach, who claimed to have been inspired by religion but then so did every other composer of his era - he simply followed the prevailing Zeitgeist of his times. Progressive *can* be like Death, have a listen to Opeth, probably the best Progressive Metal band of our times.

  • @GrindlayPro1 So , what´s the matter ? The issue religion should not be a reason for something be faced as strange .Why only when the issue is Christianism we need to hear critics ? And about Bands talking about murdering , raping corpses ? When i mentioned death / Grind was to tell about the need of these styles of speaking about material things ( I particularly enjoy these styles ). But Prog has no formula . It is about the truth inside , in what the musician believe.this is my opinion.

  • @GrindlayPro1 Tales from Topographic Oceans is the yes 6° album after close to the edge and before Relayer . And this song The Revealing Science of God ,is in it !! It is not "just that", friend .

  • @ZeroWhiteNothing I agree. I'm agnostic and even though I don't believe in the judeo-christian god I respect people's right to believe in one, as long as they don't want to push their religion down my throat. I love Neal's solo music... lyrics are just lyrics. If I want to listen to the lyrics that get through to me I listen to Pink Floyd

  • @ZeroWhiteNothing That's cause neither Peart or Anderson left the band everyone loves them in because of their religious beliefs. ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @ZeroWhiteNothing No they don't. Many people could not be less interested in Mr. Morse's personal religious views, listen to the music kind Sir.

  • Comment removed

  • @xylametazolin The gaga´s fans never pay attention to the meaning of things , only in the "Music" . But what is the music if not the sum of the experiences of the musician . The peoples that just pay attention to the music are stupid listeners of sounds.

  • Damn! TWO mellotrons!

  • Brilliant.

  • Very cool vid! Thanks.

  • Neal needs to grow his hair again - he's lost weight over the years, too! Would like to see more of these early videos!

  • I prefer Neal Morse with this long hair lol

  • a great song... feels like beeing 3min long xD

  • @JoeliF damn right u are!! u never notice it's 16 :D

  • I am Mr. Velazco andI drink my milk with Tabasco ! LoL

  • amen.

  • really love this album, good debut album

  • frankly i'm surprised that anyone who likes prog could like only prog, because prog is pretty much one of the broadest genres, and you can hear it in most other genres, so why not like them too?

  • I believe it´s because inside prog there are about 16 different genres , and most of prog lovers is well supplied with all kind of music .

  • Bloody amazing band if you didnt know. THE BEARD IS OUT THERE!! Neal Morse is an incredible musician and in great voice here funny dude lets have a party

Where did you get this video, was there a DVD aswell as the CD?????? Thanx for uploading it whatever happens theyre great visually too

  • so a bit of YES and a bit of fleettwood mac post your problems on that then

    its all proggy rock!

its all music that we love isnt it?

  • hell yeah..prog rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • prog music is only for the chosen ones...us!! long live to Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Rush, Billy Sherwood, and 0Porcupine Tree!!!

  • Sadly my friend, I think you are right...prog is the light that shines through the darkest storm. The storm is now, and the light is us...peace

  • Trekie, just look at that seanhive moron...willowing in the darkness ;)

  • Trekie , come in south France , PROGSUD, and it's happy and if you'r stil angry ( hungry=)))

Come on, you can eat and Heat=))

  • u are the chosen one?

Sorry but ur definition is a bit caricatural about progressive ...

and defently your way of thinging is not my progressive " rock of vieu"

  • my friend, I think that his comment has something to do with the fact that the majority consensus of the world listening audience is not listening to prog en masse, and this is because they are stupid, and are listening to pop-culture garbage rather than embracing the musical genius that is the progressive rock movement. It should be for everyone, but most morons would rather listen to Britney, 50, and all the other garbage music out there...that was his point.

  • yep for sure, but even if i d'ont lke britney or 50 ct, i can't say the music l love, is better than an other one.

  • @xraycat30 most people in the world don't listen to any of the music you're talking about.

  • @scalefish Most of the world doesn't listen to pop and hip hop? If only that were true. But I like your attitude.

  • @scalefish And mate...like I said, I like your wishful thinking, but I just looked up the best selling albums in Australia in the year 2010...it was junk like Lady Gaga...Eminem...Pink....Boyle...etc.. Don't be silly again.

  • @xraycat30 uh, well when you said 'the rest of the world' I thought you meant 'the world' - I doubt that Lady Gaga gets much airtime in India. Or Africa. In Australia, sure. But the biggest seeling Australian albums are Country. There's different charts for country and it's hard to calculate what the biggest sellers are.

Still it's certainly true that prog doesn't get much of run, which is a shame as there's some good stuff in the genre.

  • trkie01: most of those but you forgot genesis n00b

  • And Marillion!

  • man, how prog is that, having 2 keyboards instead of 2 guitars, b.a.

  • As a matter of fact SB used to have 2 keyboards AND 2 guitars, as Neal on records played also the electric guitar (though he indeed focused on the acoustic one), so we might say that SB had 2 keys and 1 1/2 guitar :D

(And don't forget that Neal wrote ALL music, including his brother's guitar lines ;) )

  • Check out The Flower Kings' Bablyon. There has to be 5 keyboard tracks on that song. It is a mystical adventure and it's beautiful. Also check out Theme For A Hero.

  • seen spocks without nealhe found his god but the band play on.they are just as good without him as with him.trust me im a spocks beard fan from year zero

  • I still miss Neal in SB. I have mad props for the other guys pressing on, and NDV really stepped it up, without a doubt, but you're not going to get magic like The Light and V without Neal

  • Kudos to Kevin Gilbert for the sound on this one. It really captures the band in a way that many youtube live videos don't do.

  • Wow these guys are awesome. The bassist plays like Chris Squire and the guitarist is crazy with his fingers and nails style of playing like Lindsay Buckingham.

  • I agree, shame Neal left, but some of his solo stuff, like Sola Scriptura, is very good.

  • Yeah. I've head good things about it.

They also have a new Transatlantic album in the works. Glad to see he's finally decided to do it again

  • Spock's Beard, man. They're the shit.

  • La bonne époque ...

  • The great Kevin Gilbert did the sound at this show. Amazing performance by SB.

  • Like songs within a song with an over-arching lyrical theme. Love it! Sorry to see Neal go, but an excellent band none the less.

    Dave from Straightaway.

  • classic spocks beard

  • The seed of Yes,turned to great flowers like Spock's Beard.I love them both.Relayer is one of the best releases ever.

  • Ryo on 2 Mellotrons....This was a fantastic time, I will never forget it. Kevin Gilbert was running the soundboard that night. These guys are the best. I miss Neal in front.

  • 9:24 to 9:44 could be the best 20 seconds in Prog history.

  • All of this in one.. song?

I love this! And ain't this just the greatest live performance..? Come visit Denmark! :P

  • I have this album and I love this song!

  • yeahhhhh fantastic song

hey spock's beard please come to Mexico with Neal Morse

  • Love those shouts: a party going-wihii! :D

  • It's crazy how much cleaner the studio recording is, but that's typical. Would still give a large sum of cash to see them live, especially with ol' Neal intact. Awesome rendition; better vocal harmonies in this one than other performances.

  • Neal y mostrando que Dios le ha bendecido enormemente!!! Qué composición y talento!!! Ahí está para la historia del buen Rock... Saludos a todos los amantes de la buena música!!

Neal showing the good Rock & his mark for the history!!!

  • all their albums are phenomenal.

  • neal with long hair??? ha ha ha!!! He looks cool. Cant wait to hear new Lifeline cd.

  • same thought first came to my head too^^ neal with long hair^^

  • you guys are both genesis fans, I believe,

as am I. Ilove Spock's Beard, esp Morse, as do u both i'm sure (he's phenomenal) I love V

and I love Snow...but I also am warming to Neal's solo stuff (even tho not really religious nowadaze) The Light is great!!! His philosophy is great as well...and as a musician, I believe he is first rate!

  • but i'm glad that i can come on here and have a good discussion with you guys without being berated and insulted as youtube tradition would hold.

  • look at neal lol, hes so awesome

  • Cara, essa música é uma obra de arte! Grande banda, uma pena o Morse ter saido...

Espero que um dia volte com o Spock's e com o Transatlantic. :D

  • masterpiece

  • Amazing track from a superb band.

Love the 3 chord keyboard crescendo on 9.24...an instrumental tribute to the Beatles: She loves you "Yeah, yeah, yeah".

  • i think it isn't sounds like that.

  • i love prog rock but spock's beard, though good, aren't the best. They are definitely lacking i feel. The Light is the best though.

  • it's the only spock's beard album i can really listen to.

  • Have you heard V? The Great Nothing might be their best song, it's better than anything on The Light.

  • yes, i have heard V, i bought a copy of it and i was very disappointed with it.

  • i love this band

  • Great Jam very polished

  • This is great stuff from a great band. Those who like this may like It Bites too. It Bites most accomplished work was Once Around the World (LP), sadly only available on Vinyl at the moment. There again you all probably know this info already! Cheers.

  • One of my favorite bands!! Love, just love it!!

  • spock's beard... probably my favorite band of all time... after genesis.

  • God, this song is a masterpiece.

  • my favorite SB song. Amazing. But Neal Morse with long hair??? WTF!

  • Best song ever from ehe best band ever!!!!

  • man, some people can't waer long hair,

Jordan Rudess, Neal Morse... that's just weird! haha

  • Agreed...Neal looks a little like Jesus playing the boards,,lol...love em though, awesome people, awesome band!

  • Scott Ian of Anthrax? Ever see him when he had hair? lol, great rythym guitarist but I wonder if he ever had a good hair day?

  • okay, I see where you're going with that..and Alan Morse looks kind of like Chris Jericho from WWE in this vid. This is my favorite Spock's Beard tune as well.

  • hmm.. yeah kind of, except unlike jericho, alan does not look like he takes it in the ass and not quite as strong either.

  • does anybody have the rest of this show on video please ?

  • wooooow sooooo awessooomme!!!

  • love spocks beard. great progressive.

  • you gotta love LSD

  • the stuff or the song??XD

  • uhm, you know theres a MESSAGING SYSTEM? ya know, for having conversations with people...so you don't have to hold them on the board of a video that the conversation doesnt pertain to at all.

Spock's beard is incredible, this video is a classic....I love when neil goes "party noises.....HE HEEE"

  • Listen old sport, do try to make an effort at sounding half way coherent while posting a comment, there's a good chap.

You see dissembling this belatedly conveyed epistle with the latest juvenile jargon might be all the rage with your local fairy ring.

I however, admittedly havent got a frickin' notion what you're on about.

  • Huh?

  • Im going to go to sleep, but Ill catch you later, thanks for the talk, bye for now.

  • okay then "me",do you study?

  • Like I said at one moment I wasn't sure of anything.I mean some of these "fools" use more than one name, and start playing stupid games, that bore me.

  • i'm glad we got this, me being a man issue out of the way.i was getting upset a little.

  • Pffff,I'm releaved to hear that.I was afraid maybe you were much younger you know, dont get me wrong 23 is still young.
