As I have seen many technique comments, I shall add one for what is needed. Heels together to the interval of a fifth. Knees togather up to an octave, this is painful if you are playing on the inside of your foot. But that is the rule.
it takes years to learn the pedal board and you may use Organ Masters for shoes or ballroom dance shoes, they are typically the exact same. and you cannot just buy one for a keyboard it's generally an oragn thing.
the right position to sit on the organ is straight back and then learn solo toe- heel exercises from the books or tutor, the shoes should be like the ones you see above . first learn to play solo pedals then with the mannuals without looking at them. good luck! you can get hammond or yahama organ pedal boards.
yes agreed. I dislike bass couplers. I go to the Mormon church where they have lots of the usual digital organs and I can't stand it when inexperianced pianists will try and play by using the bass coupler. It destroys the technique of the organ... (bty i am posting this comment under a different user name becuase i don't want to be attacked on you-tube for strong commenting.)
I have this piece in my music but bever have played it. The only thing I see a lot is is movement from the ankle, as opposed to light motion from the ankle and more of a swinging/dangle from the joint that connects the upper leg to the lower pelvis...as taught by David Higgs or Joyce Jones. It all depends on what pedal method one learns with. Nilson is Passe'...Germani is better...Davis is phenominal.
I agree. I see alot of extra movement that could be taken out. Try to play black notes with only your big toe - not your entire foot. Thus, you don't need to move forward and backwards on pedal notes nearly as much. Also, try not to slap notes (esp during some of those louder parts). Finally, try to play on the "inside" of the notes, not the outside. Other than that, nice job!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! This is not a piece that demonstrates ''great'' pedal technique, nor is it exciting. Two great pieces for such technique are the Langlais ''Epoilogue'' and the ''Variations on a Theme by Paganini'' by George Thalben-Ball (both of which are for pedal solo).
I think this is an excelent solo for pedal. It shows great technique and style. I'm impressed. This can be a great video to help learn the proper way to play. Thanks for posting it!
So are you calling Rhoda Scott not an organist? I bet you wouldnt say that to her! She is so great! Anyone who can play the pedals PERIOD is a good organist!
@shoesoffpedal - I'm almost 20 years old and I have been playing organ for 4 years. I always take my shoes off when I play. It allows for better accuracy on the pedals and helps me to feel the pedals easier. I can get speed and accuracy from playing without my shoes. I am an organist, whether I wear shoes or not, I'm an organist.
Does anyone would be so kind as to tell me if I can buy the notes of this solo for pedal.
Thanks. Philippe Besnier

A true organist always wears shoes to play the organ. an organist who plays without shoes is not an organist at all.

@shoesoffpedal According to which "law". Why not wear gloves as well?

Thats how you play the organ, with you hands and feet.

@carol9821 Beg to differ. Most organists are very interested in both the manual and pedal technique. I love this video.
