Lupe's the cool album was dark as fuck, watch an interview on it and he talks about how he had to balance out the lyrics with beats so people would accept it, so that the lyrics wouldnt depress someone but to motivate to inspire. Lupe isn't even on my top rappers list to be honest. There are many that are better than Lupe. However, that's probably because I view it a little bit differently than most. Lupe is an artist first and foremost. The way he approaches his music isn't really anything we've ever seen before. When it comes to hip hop itself and the actual skill and the many different ways you can rap, Lupe is no where near the top. He's diverse in content but not in the actual form of rapping. He's a great artist.
