i am pretty sure he(phil cornwell) was out of it alot of the time.....wish I hadn't chucked out my recordings of Gilbert. His interview with Voice of the Beehive was classic
Apologise all you like for the quality, but when you're trying to use the one E240 TDK tape (still got it) you own to record all your favourite bits on TV when you're about 15 (so that would be 1987 or so), quality isn't really the main thing on your mind. I grabbed as many things as possible (which is why there's a second or so of a documentary on 30 years of Island records at the start, with Bono wiggling his bum at Red Rocks) and stuck what I found, many years later, on a torrent site. Voila!
According to an interview he did (think it was in loaded or poss the now defunct "Later") some years ago, Gilbert's delivery "allegedly" owed a lot to speed. Back in the mid 80's he was supposedly a Friday night speed freak - so when he picked up Gilbert the next morning, his head was still absolutely buzzing. The result was this AMAZING stream of consciousness delivery that could jumped through three or four unrelated things on one sentence. "Allegedly"
We are not allowed to quote MP! Haha! It's Monty Pythons election special reference. Amazingly high-brow for a kids show. I miss Gilbert still. It's like an audition for Stella Street! Genius!
Gaz top could he look anymore of a fanny with that hair?yes talking to a green puppet!!Gaz top what a cunt probably calling bingo somewhere in britain with the same shite patter
I too would love to know what happened to Charlotte Hindle. She always seemed such a good tv presenter, very unpatronising! I remember her Mum being "killed off" in Corrie a few years before this was shown.
Losing your pocket money down the arcade beat watching this turd. Having said that, Charlotte Hindle was worth a look, wasn't she? Where on earth has Gaz Topp gone???
@morry27 She went on to present The 8.25 from Manchester which she presented with Ross King for BBC1 in 1990 and all I know is that she is the daughter of actress Madge HIndle.
What made Gilbert's bits on Number 73 so funny was that Charlotte Hudson and Gaz Top were trying to do a "presenting job" and Gilbert kept interrupting and doing ( and saying ) daft things !
Because my original video had a copy of a documentary about Island records which was shown on Channel 4 (That's Bono's bum at Red Rocks) and I couldn't cut it fast enough without losing the start of the show. And in those days there was no such thing as CITV, just Saturday morning ITV (STV, Southern TV as was)
brillaint program. The space ship landing on towns around britan. I remeber it came close to me, landed in colchester. My parents would not take me. Why not do programs like this again. ah, the memorys.
Gilbert rocks & the 'Gilbert's Fridge' series needs either a re-run on the box or at the very least putting onto DVD so we can all have a laugh. Phil Cornwell - absolute genius..
I was a presenters on Get Fresh - I did all the nature stuff and was just a teenager at the time. Gilbert was a totally live and spontaneous vocal performance from Phil Cornwell complimented by some brilliant puppeteering from John Eccleston who had no idea what to expect from one second to the next. I've just been watching back my own home video of the Get Fresh days and wondered if anyone remembered him. Nice to see it's not totally forgotten cos it was bloody funny.
I've been telling people about Gilbert for years, and been met with blank stares. Anyone have any footage of "Gilbert's Fridge" - the kids sketch show with the Pogues theme tune? Oh, and who did the voice? Harry Enfield? Phil Cornwell? Maybe even Steve Coogan? I know it was a Spitting Image production.
I too have been affected by gilbert, class stuff! i do have the whole series of gilberts fridge, maybe i should post sum but not got around to see how to do it yet! But if ya want a copy on dvd then just get in touch ok, Dean
