  • What about direct vs. indirect objects? Say, "I give the book to her." Which would come first, her or book?

  • @limitedamountplease It goes like this: Topic wa/ga Indirect ni Direct w(o) Verb. For example: Daniel-san wa Katie-san ni hon w(o) agemasu (polite present/future).

  • "What do you do with books?"

    Me: "Burn them"

  • when you say japanese words (even in your introduction) can you at least have a subtitle or annotation showing the hiragana or romaji? sometimes its hard to understand what the word is (this isnt specific to you by any means, i have this problem in general!)

    thanks

  • I hold a book. that sentence doesn't sound right. :D

  • your hair is ka wa i

  • the verb changes right? like in english it does, from to be changes to I am and I was etc, how do you change a verb? Is there a set way or it is like all irregular? :S

  • thanks alot:)

i got most of the words down in my head and a weak idea of sentece structure..but never really got a grasp of it until now:)

I can finally understand movies alot bettter now

  • anyway,あなたの髪の毛はきれいです。 i do not know if i got that right.

  • @micheal100000 To sayounara, what's wrong with it? It's a formal goodbye. In Japanese I would say that rather than "mata ne" to you guys because you're strangers and I'm trying to be polite. Also your sentence should be, "髪型はきれいです。" Thanks for the compliment! You don't need あなた. 髪の毛 means hair as in the strands of hair... like if you have a hair stuck on your sweater someone might tell you "髪の毛が付いているよ。" 髪型 means hairstyle, which I think is what you meant...

  • i'm not trying to be a smartass but i think you should not have used sayounara. :P

  • Those particles ga, wa, o, ni and so on are complicated take as an example:

Okane ga arimasen and okane wa arimasen. Why are there two different particles in the same sentence?

  • I enjoyed your video! I just started studying Japanes and have simple question on writing a paragraph about yourself. I've got this so far (romanji):

Hajimemashite. Rebecca desu. Doozo yoroshiku. Watashiwa Amerikajin desu. Ninensei desu. Fungaku no gakusei desu.>>>So pretty much after I say :watashiwa" I shouldn't use it anymore??? I'll Google this, but HELP!!!!

  • @ord2jpn first, the sentences are fine as they are, as long as you are still talking about yourself, you don't need to keep saying "watashi". Though, I encourage you to learn the kanas and kanji if you haven't already and start to use them immediately. Second, what's "fungaku"? Do you mean "ongaku" as in music? "fun" means 'poo' in Japanese... so it sounds like "poop school"

  • @daiquirikiss LOL Satus sensei would like that! I meant bungaku. I'm in Japanese 101, so I just learned the hiragana and katakana. There's no Japanese tutor and my instructor goes through everything so fast. I'll just bug you. Please explain how to use the particles ni, he (when pronounced eh) and de to form proper sentences.

  • @daiquirikiss cont. Please advise if these sentences are correct:

Kinoo(long o)-wa benkyoojimashita ka? Did you study yesterday?

Anata asagohanotabemasu ka? Are you studying? Thank you!!!!!

  • @ord2jpn you don't need wa after kinou. Also your second sentence means: "Do you eat breakfast?"

  • @ord2jpn all i know is desu is a sign of being polite or something like that. i know arigato kawai genki desu ka u so! and konichiwa and i dont think i even spelled them all right

  • @felicityh20 Domo arigato gonzaimasu!

  • @ord2jpn DOMO ARIGATO MISTER ROBOTO

  • @NikkiandTeecie hehe...dork. ;)

  • r u mexican???

  • With your hair like that... you look a bit like Inoue Mao... very pretty c:

  • ありがとうございました!!!^-^ can you please explain the higher level sentence structure, like when you should put the commanding particle " ba", lol i think that's it, in a sentence. ありがとうございます!!!!

  • wow nice perfect future tense .. "claps lol

  • i eat cake...............yum

  • Couldnt you also say 私わ本を持っています?

  • thaaaaaaaaaanx :P

  • What a messy room! What's going on?

  • arigatou guzaimashita!!

  • this was really helpful

    thank you

  • the biggest difference between japanese and the other asians is that some japanese look like caucasian like ken hirai because of ainu-jomon blood.

  • I'm getting stationed in Japan.. your video will be helpful. Subject Obj. Verb. Now time to brush up on Everyday items like you said. Thanks.

  • I suggest to have a board or visual aid to also read by the viewers.

  • i wana learn japanese,,,, nice vid lady.... btw did u fart at 40 seconds cos ur were waving ur hands around funny looool

  • you're adorable :)

  • thanks for posting this :D was having trouble finding a good vid on sentance structure ^-^

  • uhmm, ms.japanese..can we substitute motteimasu for motsu??i just want to suggest but you must first teach them the basic and polite forms to be easier..hope you understand..

    ja!!

  • lol :) this is jokes!!

  • you seem really cool, nice video, i subscribed, live in london though so i wont be able to find that salon lol

  • So, how about

    1 本 わたし 持つ

    2 本 持つよ わたし

    3 持つよ 本 わたし

    4 アメリカ人で、私はあるから

  • are you asking me how to say it or are you testing me?

  • I'm suspectful people define it's SOV since it's somehow different from actual use.

And sorry, if it offended you.

  • i just wanted them to get a very basic start in japanese... a simple sentence to get them started. Of course things will be more complicated than SOV as they advance. But they should know that if they know their own language.

  • no offense, but you look straight up Asian to me (no further offense intended, but when i see someone who's Asian, i can't tell whether they're from Japan or China or Korea or Vietnam or what), so what i don't understand is how the Japanese could tell you weren't fully Japanese. What physical characteristics mark this difference? Thnx!

  • My nose and freckles on my face aren't Japanese. Plus my eyes aren't full almond shape.

  • ahh, i see. i guess that would give it away. in the video it's reallly hard to see details. the old woman you mentioned might have had some very good eyes. lol

  • @dldavenport2008 you raicest bastard

  • @55weedman actually i'm pretty sure i was very polite when i phrased that, as i was asking out of genuine curiosity. when you're not familiar with ethnic variation it's easy to confuse individuals, so you can stop with the rudeness now. if the girl who posted this video had thought i'd said something rude i'm pretty sure she'd have defended herself, checked me straight, or just plumb deleted my comment. i'm in love with asian culture; therefore your insult is stupid.

  • hello i've a question is this a good japanese sentences or did i made any faults?:

    watashi issen asobu

its so i wanted to say with this sentences: I played a game.

MAde i any mistakes in the sentence? And how would it be right? hope you can help me.

  • no, that's not right.

    watashi WA geimu WO shimashita.

    私はゲームをしました。

ゲーム can mean video game, board game, any game... though when it was first used, it used to mean only video game which was called terebi geimu テレビゲーム and then more recently bideo geimu ビデオゲーム. But even those sound old and text booky... and ゲーム has evolved to mean all sorts of games.

  • Thank you very much for explaining me that :) thank you very much.. :)

  • wow thank you, it helps me to understand the japanese sentences struckture.. you are really cute, especially when you speak japanese :)

  • I like your laugh ^^

    かわいですね

  • very helpful! ありがとう

  • あなたは可愛いです (^_*)

  • DANG! kawaii

    your haircut is really cute!

  • your hair looks amazing!!!

  • thanks!

  • ありがとう!

KAWAII! I love your new haircut! =]

  • New haircut :)! Sugoi, how can a haircut change you^_^;thanks for the info, eto..if you don't mind (you said you can teach many things) can you show/teach how to make cookies(ofc specific Japanese)? Sorry if I'm being rude, you can say 'no'. I'm waiting for your reply (don't be in mokusatsu stance:P).

  • japanese cookies?? hmm... well if it has matcha in it.. that automatically makes them japanese! haha

  • I've found this video very instructive. Thanks!

    Question:

I know that japanese people use diferent formality levels, could you explain them please?

Also, you look cute with your new haircut.

  • sure but, at a beginner level you shouldn't have to worry about it yet. Just stick to desu form and when you're able to say something like, "The cat killed the mice for me" in Japanese (just that kind of sentence structure) then you should start on formality.

  • Diggin' the haircut. :]

Thanks for this. I've been learning on my own and I THOUGHT it was subject > object > verb, and now I have some solidarity behind that.

    Happy sunday! :[

  • New look ;)

  • Cool video. Very informative for japanese beginners.

    Subject, object verb.

  • Yes, thanks.

That was like, brutal fer sure!

And yeah, the cut is awesome.

  • Nice haircut.
