I'm a woman, and I liked this movie. And I don't know why people say they hate the storyline. The story was just fine. It's true, it was just a way to show the visuals, but that's what this movie was about. Pretty much true of 300 as well. (Loved that one too.) And in terms of message? I have no complaint about that either. In a nutshell: As much as you might feel like a victim, suck it up and take back control over your own life. That's good stuff. Especially for girls.

I watched this movie last weekend and I love it. Being schitzophrenic , I know what its like. In this film , you don't learn till the end that these ladies are in an Insane assylum and they never tell you why they were there. Sad to see that only one of the ladies ever escapes that hell and ironically , it's the one who was totally against breaking out. Also , the ladies never show too much skin or too much tease dancing.... disappointing cause its based on the ladies being used fo entrtanmnt

@excitednewplayer Also, if you're schizophrenic, a good thing to learn might be how to actually spell your illness. The movie also isn't at all about schizophrenia. The characters aren't having delusions- that's not what those "other" situations (the brothel and all the action sequences) are, exactly. It's possible that one of the girls are schizophrenic, but we aren't told. And as far as the audience knows, Babydoll was committed for no better reason than her father needed to get rid of her.

@Epurope actually the plot is very good. The journey isnt imaginary. She is actually attempting to break out, but thats how she sees it in her head. The "imaginary friends" are other patients at the insane asylum, which also says it wasn't a prison.

It wasn't that good.

It's the director wanted a movie with hot chicks fighting with swords, mix in some WW2 stuff, dragons, and other sci-fi/fantasy elements.

It wasn't very original, because the fighting parts are basically what any nerd would dream up... this was "nerd paradise", I guess.

The fighting scenes weren't particularly amazing or anything.

The story... sucked. They tried to make the story confusing and "abstract" like, kind of like Inception. Let's just say it failed.

@wc1hater You must be underestimating the huge effort put into the action scenes to call them not particularly amazing.. this was the only film were the action scenes were actually worth my time (tired of bad, bad action flicks), and the samurai fight scene was one of the best, considering the harmony created between the visuals and the sound effects. It was nigh-perfect. And the story was not confusing, Zach Snyder provided one of the easiest symbolisms I've EVER seen.

See, there were 3 worlds - asylum, theater, and fantasy. You can clearly see the shift from Asylum to Theater when the outfit of "Baby Doll" changes from plain asylum clothes to sexy, schoolgirl outfit when she meets SweetPea & also by seeing that the makeshift "theater" in the mental hospital has actually turned into a brothel-ish theater. :D

I think the purpose of this movie is for the visuals. Even if the plot and logic of this film makes no sense, doesn't make you wonder though, that is what most girls go through in a crazy house? I mean, you would have to be beyond crazy to imagine this stuff. The only thing I find wrong with this movie is that we never see her dance. Aside from that, it was awesome. It's like Scott Pilgrim vs the World, a two sentence plot description with the main focus being visuals.

Look a short films with the quirky visuals, look at bad movies such as The Room and Troll 2 (they're extremely bad but you can't help but laugh, which makes it entertaining). If you want to prove me wrong, show me a video clip of the makers of Sucker Punch telling us that the soul purpose of this movie is not the visuals.

READ THIS! She is a bit of a loony and gets put in an asylum. This woman then tells her how to create a vivid imaginary world that she controls using her imagination. She then has to get 5 pieces of a formula in order to "escape". In the end, she gets a lobotomy and is trapped in the asylum until the day she dies. REALLY cool movie, despite the depressing ending. :)
