It looks totes cute with jeans, Whitney! Nice work. ^_~
I remember I designed a show once that was 30's gangsters, but most of the cast were women, so for one character I had her in pinstripe slacks, a corset made from a suit jacket with the lapels on the bustline, and to top it off, I made a belt that had the back half of a skirt attached. Like, a belt-skirt thing. I love the idea of suggesting more traditional femininity over a modern idea. ^_^ It's fun!
Nice job! I love it. I'm making a quilt using strips of frabric so I have a small bag of strip scraps that I'm saving for whatever. Well the whatever is going to be this Scrappy Bustle. Its a perfect project to use them up on. I cant wait to try this out. Thanks for sharing.
@LoriHulstine That's awesome! I'm always saving scraps so I've been really trying to come up with projects lately that I can use them for. Let me know how yours turns out :)
Thanks Whitney. You make it seem sooo easy. I kind of got it first time through but that backing piece snagged me. I will have to watch a few more times to really get it. Plus my sewing machine is sorta sick. Or it is protesting. Either way it won't work for me.
I am wondering how long could you make the first row of pleats/ruffles and still have a good style. I am working on a costume, and this would be nice to finish off the back...but I was thinking that maybe that first row could be worked with a flowy fabric the would lay soft against the back of the dress.and then go with like material.and do the ruffles to the waist.
The back is very plain, this would dress it up.. I would use the same material all the way through it.skirt underneath semi fluffy
@scarlettrose11 3838bbla is right...E stands for my last name. I have a video on my other channel from about a year ago where I talked a little bit about making the button E.
@KaitsDuctTape A bustle used to be the structure that went under a dress in the 19th century to hold the skirt out in the back and keep if from dragging the ground. They were sometimes made of wire, but some looked similar to what I made. Now days bustles are sometimes seen in wedding dresses...or worn on the outside with high fashion designs or just for fun like I showed in the video. (Check out bustle in wikipedia for pics and more info)
@aglanceatmyworld Ok. This is a good project for me. Just to practice my sewing skills though. I really wouldn't go out wearing that, unless I was like you going to that fair. Thanks Whitney!
I love how this looks! I really love the colors you chose. It's so pretty!
I was watching this wishing I was brave enough to wear one, but then I thought that it would also make a really cute purse! Maybe that will be my next project...
My daughter SO needs this and I am a bit of a horder with the scraps from my mother's quilting. I just CAN NOT throw that away when I've made so many awesome projects with it!
This is cool.I havea question.Could you a video like a sewing basics on old machine.Ive had a new seing machine for a year now,and I got a vintage machine for christmas.Everytime i sew the thread comes out:(-kennedy<3
@mschocolatejimmy Check out my sewing basics series...there's a playlist for in on my main channel page. It could be that it's not threaded right or that you don't have enough of a thread tail when you start sewing. Hope that helps :)
So cute! I'd love to do this just to practice my new sewing skills!

@scarlettrose11 I think E stands Edwards? their last name? I want to know how to make the E in the picture frame if Whitney made it herself.
