One of the most amazing performances ever of ANY kind of music whether it be rock, punk, jazz, grunge, you name it. Screaming Jay Hawkins isn't a singer or musician. He's an artist. By the way, while this version is tremendous, the CCR version is pretty darn good too.
I had the honor of doing sound for Jay at the Telluride Filmfest when Jarmish premiered "Mystery Train". What a guy! Still pitching woo at every lady in sight.
YESSSS!!! UNDERGROUND MAN!!!!!! R.I.P JAY.

The guy is something else entirely...fair play to the sax player though. He took his moment in the spotlight with real class...
222nietzsche 2 years ago
well, after all the sax player was the host of the show....

@222nietzsche The sax player is David Sanborn, a musical legend in his own right

How about a bill of Screamin Jay and Little Richard and maybe throw in Jerry Lee for good measure ... that would have been a real sight to see.

He's a little campy but he's a genuine artist... the brother is on another plane....
