  • This song make me shivers, amazing.

    the second best version.

    first by Cash...

  • I can not describe my feelings for this cover.. I will stand in admiration of Amanda Palmer forever for helping me through my life with her incredible appearance! <3

  • If I see another comment that says original is by Johnny cash, I'm gonna fucking kill someone. Btw., this is a really nice cover by Amanda.

  • i'd really love to hear a studio version of this.

  • Beyond beautiful and heartbreaking.

  • Great artist covering a song by a great band? Yes please.

  • Fucking beautiful.

  • i fucking love amanda palmer, but her live shows are usually a little bland simply due to lack of instrumentation. like when it's just her and her piano, i'm kinda meh. but THIS! THIS is great.

  • The closest 32 people have ever come to a stage theatre is begging for change outside of it.

    (P.S. great cover.)

  • fucking amazing cover.

  • beautiful!!

  • 31 people are allergic to this level of emotion in a performance. ;)

  • only one cover of this song better than this one, but hell that one's better than the original; not many can top johnny cash

  • @jsross82 derp

  • Yo soy una gran admiradora de NIN... y el cover quedó wow!!

  • There's nothing like a performance where the artist has the actual emotion for it instead of just singing it emotionally. I almost cried when I noticed she had been crying through the entire thing.

  • What Doug you dont even know me and I will kick your gay ass, But your cute so I gues we can share her lolz. And No Im Gayer that you and more of a man!!!! oh what knaw XD

  • amazing, simply amazing.

  • Wow you're coat is awesome. I love you Amanda Palmer you are so amazing you are so talented!!

  • I really enjoy all three versions of this song. Each are uniquely different and good. This is more of a classical beautiful because the orchestra helped out. I love how each are very emotional as well.

  • @gorkulf. Why yes, I am aware that Johnny's is a NIN cover. That's why I said "It's a Johnny Cash song TOO." Also, that was posted TWO MONTHS AGO. But thank you for joining in the conversation. Next time, learn to read so gmail won't fill my inbox with emails informing me of others' stupidity.

  • That redishion was truly beutiful and hart felt. I think It was the best I herd with the full orchestra and your powerful voice. It brout me back to the darkest parts of my past and makes me greatfull for every joyiest moments in life. THanks for sharing that AFP your very inspireing. Your biggiest gay fan Patrick

  • @patrickdobbs Ummm...no. I am her biggest gay fan!!!! Im like 100% gayer than you!!!

    Ok...we can share her.

    Doug

  • Bravo!

  • She's my favorite lady I havn't met yet. Seeing her perform this song fills me with unfulfillable longing. An ache that heals the heart. I wish I could have been there to breath it in.

  • I love this cover even better than Johnny Cash's. Thank you!

  • amazing work miss Palmer =) - You honor NIN!

  • 2nd best version of this song. Nothing beats Johnny Cash.

  • its a Johnny Cash song too

  • @katsup78 originally by NIN, though. ;)

  • @katsup78 WRONG... It's always been a NIN song.. Cash merely covered it.. But he did it splendidly. So splendidly that Trent Reznor in fact said this song is not mine anymore.. It's Johnny's song now.. FYI..

  • Nice coat.

  • ;_; wow.

  • Fuckin' shivers!

  • This song always gives me goosebumps, no matter who sings it.

Amanda Palmer just made it that much more special.

  • The orchestra actually hits the flat note at the end of each measure just like the original, haunting.

  • plummy video

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. just listen to the emotion...

  • When I saw this in my reccomendations I almost died. I was like, seriously?! My favorite song covered by Amanda Fucking Palmer? Wow. This just sends chills down my spine.

  • Nothing bad about it at all. Closeminded people are a fucking drag.

  • Nothing bad about it at all. Closeminded people are a fucking drag.

  • Such a gorgeous cover of the song. Beautiful song, and what a perfect person to cover it.

  • Amanda does a beautiful job of the gorgeous NIN's hurt.

    love love love :)

  • Amanda needs to do a covers album and this absolutely must be on that album.

  • Normal person + Anonymity + Audience= Total Fuckwad

    there u go

  • Darkatanforever no man this actually NIN song, cash makes a cover

  • @Darkatanforever Yeah, you're an idiot. Trent Reznor gets no credit. He was the original composer here. Since then a thousand idiots have tried to cover it. Few of them have done a version that didn't suck. And only 1 (JC) did one just as good as the original.

  • @Darkatanforever

NiN are clever to cover it 8 years before cash sang it....

Reznor is a fan of the cash cover from what I hear, tho he wasn't sure when first approached with the idea... I think the video really helped JC's version.

  • Thanks for posting this, it's really awesome, and damnit it's got that passion I do so love!

  • she's fucking amazing

  • She has the sexiest voice ever

  • She's amazing.

  • love love love

  • Amazing cover! I haven't heard this song since the Cash cover, but this one is more touching. Excellent as always, AFP!

  • haunting

  • @MrsSoulfish Are you being sarcastic? Or are you another internet ignorant, that that actually still thinks Hurt was originally written and recorded by Johnny Cash?

  • @MrsSoulfish uh It was originally NIN , sorry.

  • @Norokrex certainly!

  • Please tell me what's so bad about a fully-orchestrated arrangement of a good NIN song sung by an emotionally charged singer?

  • @mishydishy Nothing bad about it at all, actually its wonderful :)

  • @BeepStratten Johnny Cash did a cover, do some research....

  • @BeepStratten It's a Nine Inch Nail's song that Johnny Cash covered, actually. It was released in 1994 and written by Trent...it was then covered by Johnny Cash almost 10 years later.

  • @Hollenvaen School these children! :)

  • I like Amanda Palmer and all, but how exactly does covering a song make someone a "genius"?

  • Ok.

    NIN + AFP

    is orgasmic.

  • fucking hell. better than the original. this made me cry. ♥

  • @catlover1001 -- almost made me cry too. :x

  • @slhimhr

    Ha, wow. You're silly.

  • MORE PLEASE <3 <3 <3

  • OMG! YOU SO AWSOME AMANDA!

  • I FREAKING LOVE YOU AMANDA!!

  • She's actually covering Johnny Cash's cover of NIN...

  • Scratch that, I'm nor sure.

  • @metaslugx No, I think there are far more similarities with the original than with Johnny Cash's.

  • I think Lance said he used the Cash version as his basis.

  • @metaslugx

Actually, if she was covering cash's cover of NIN, she'd have said 'thorns' not 'shit'.

  • Wow. Great performance. Now if she'd do Reptile, that would be something...

  • I just got over my musical heart attack from seeing how amazing this cover is...then i saw her "poker face" cover.

  • Amanda, you are so awesome! <333

  • She's a woman and was born that way. Why is this thumbed down so much? It's not bad to be a transvestite, it's just not true in this case.

  • @spyingpie

    I agree~

I guess they take offence that she might have been a man lol!

I honestly couldnt tell what she was, I didnt say it to offend her or degrade her. But you know how everyone is on youtube...jerks!

  • I honestly prefer this to the original.

  • yay!!!!!! i fucking love you amanda. ur my hero

  • i really like this cover

  • OMG i love you so much Amanda! Your such an amazing artist!

  • You are stunning Amanda. <3

  • I love you amanda palmer! you are blessing to this world. By the end i wanted to give you a big hug but i'll just settle for projecting it through the internet. :) you are a gorgeous creature.

  • amanda, this was amazing! i'm sure trent reznor was proud :)

  • Mesmorising

You made that song your own, it was brilliant

  • Love~ <3

  • I'm loving the coat.

  • Except for that it wasn't. :P It's okay though, it's a common misconception. <3

Johnny does an amazing cover of it, though. It was the first version I ever heard.

  • I know someone just told me....aarrgh brain fart lol.

It is a beautiful cover I love it so much <333. Obw thanks for not being mean about the mistake!

  • @whychristopher just noticed you have already been corrected. atleast there wernt people jumpin to the bit harrassing you about it. :]

  • i don't see why someone should be harassed for making a common mistake, you stupid, selfish self-righteous bastard. :]

  • @whychristopher wtf? are you retarted? I didnt lash out at your or even call you anything for making a schoolboy error.

  • except its not by Johnny Cash, it was written by Nine Inch Nails!

  • @whychristopher Wrong. It's the other way around.

  • @whychristopher Man, google your shit before you talk atleast. the song was originally written by trent reznor and performed by nine inch nails. Johnny Cash only made his cover/interpretation of the song.

  • This is really well done!! Amanda Fucking Palmer...no wonder ;)

  • someone needs to post the John Gabriel "Internet Fuckwad Theory"

  • I LOVE Trent Reznor

  • what cheery conversations to be had in the comments :D

  • i really enjoyed this arrangement. thanks afp

  • <3 :]

  • Great song and great performance of it,

just the cinematographer could use more practice. ; )

  • That was beautiful. =]

  • I think she did open some minds, she is very good at doing that. Kudos, Amanda, I wish I was there.

  • and this is why she is my favorite preformer/artist/person/furie i have ever know of..... opened my mind and still dose of whats posible in life and music... i never in a million years thought id ever pick up a Uke and now that i have i wonder why i never did before....

  • @slhimhr LOLLL

  • ah good old "My Empire of Dirt".

  • Wow, that is a powerful song to sing and very touching for the reason you wished to sing it. I hope your 2010 brings you just enough light among the dark that has to be there.

  • This was a beautiful moment that night.

  • Beautiful voice, I hope she puts this on a cd.

  • @slhimhr i dont know if there fans... not takin anything away from amanda by no means but rich people like "new "things to spend there money on...... ahhh lets go see some art and forget our life is a meaningless rat race where we steal money for people by coporet means........ hope she opened some minds...

  • LOL, totally

  • thank you Amanda, I love this music, you make it even more special :)

  • I always wondered if anyone from later generations would be qualified to cover this song. Amanda's voice cracks and wavers. That's Amanda's voice. I wouldn't want to hear her sing it with anyone else's.

  • Thank you, Amanda, for posting this. I am just stunned. This is a truly beautiful rendition of a song that saves me. Thank you. Thank you.

  • great performance!! Very emotional and very moving. Music is about passion, and Amanda definately has it! <3

  • The music is good...the singing however...

  • o.O ja at least she tried...

  • Shivers down my spine. Very, very touching perfomance!

  • Beautiful!

  • I like to think of it as a marble cake. And we have to eat the whole thing. Amazing performance. Your darkness and rough edges are your most attractive feature

  • I think the best thing about this version is the Boston Pop's beautiful arrangement. When you hear how wonderfully Hurt lends itself to a symphonic treatment you can fully appreciate Reznor as a truly great composer, especially of dark minimalist pieces that pack such intense emotional power. Were the final history to be written on him today it would likely say "electronic/industrial rock musician". But he is so more than that. He has produced stuff that elevates him to a Phillip Glass level.

  • Beautiful. Frack the haters.

  • amazing song. she did it well.

  • i see what you did there

  • I don't dislike her, but for some reason it really annoys me when people do covers of my favorite songs, this particular song didn't get any attention until Johnny Cash covered it. The best version is Trent's
