The poor dog was scared and stressed out, and most likely perceived the man with the hood as threatening, I have seen strange reactions from dogs (and cats, and birds) when they see people who wear hats and/or sunglasses! Dogs communicate a lot through looking at the eyes! The man had his hair covered up, and most likely looked like an alien, or threat, to the dog. Not her fault and I am glad that this guy harbored no ill will towards this poor creature! :~)

awesome firefighter, it was not worthy of him saving it,dogs are not a endangered species but if they want to use it as a training mission to save humans i would make something that could lift the animal up from behind while still in the raft. and if he falls in again then swim with the fishes stupid animal.wouldn't a tranqulizer dart been cheaper and less painful than stiches?
The way they should have gotten the dog was grab it from behind by the scruff of it's neck. That way it wouldn't be as ready to bite them.

Among wild dogs/wolves, etc., for reasons that maybe nobody understands, dogs will often ATTACK badly injured pack mates. Dogs can feel very defensive when in trouble.

Besides, in that sort of situation, the EASIEST way to get the dog out is just to grab it at the scruff of the neck and haul it out (and watch out you don't get bit in the HAND!).

You should see my own dog how it acts when we "try" to cut her nails... It takes 3 people to hold her out with a special technique thaught to us by the veteranians. My father had 2 cuts on his face after this. But our dog, outside of this moment NEVER does that. Even if we hug her on the troath (like we humans do).
