Captain Smollet does an admirable (admiral?) job in the role. The actor playing Silver is too young for the role and doesn't project the manner of a salty sea dog.

I understand what you are saying about Silver's lack of brackishness in this scene. I think he was trying to play some ironic level of gentlemanly manner as this takes place after Silver has taken command of the ship.
I am going to go back and look at some other scenes. There may some more salt to find in this portrayal of Long John Silver. Sorry about the sound sync problems.
