I definitely liked the game. I think it could have been alot more intense, because due to my laptop's shitty graphics processing, I had to keep all the video options on the lowest setting, making everything bright like there was light even in the dark places.
Also, the dogs were a hell of alot harder to kill because it would lag so bad when they attacked. Killing a dog at 3 fps feels like alot more of an accomplishment though haha.
Actuality, this part wasn't scary at all atleast to me, a bit shoking... yes. But the most scariest part of the game when you realize you have no choice between killing your only friend D':
penumbra uses stuff to kill enemys while amnesia dont :P thats one way ppl think amnesia is scarier coz they cant do a shit about the monster + the music is scary when the amnesia monsters gets closer :P
Playing Penumbra on Hard... even if you have weapons, it's pretty stupid to use them, since one/two bite(s) will kill you and you cannot risk that.
Besides, I found Amnesia a bit more relaxing, since throughout the game you have Alexander and Daniel talking (while remembering stuff). Makes it more safe for me.
Amnesia, while scary, uses direct fear (vagina-face zombies) which is kinda cheesy, in my opinion.
Penumbra is like marriage: it builds up to a certain point, then you realize the s*itstorm that's about to happen (because you went into the hatch at the beginning).

I got super tense when this happened. I feel ya man, but the scariest part for me was near the very beginning, when I barricaded the door, yet the demon dog, whom I've named Fido, still managed to silently creep through just as I looked up from lolling with my friend about how that scary ass dog has no chance of getting through the door. We both yelled, and literally leaped out of our chairs. I regained control of the computer and yelled until I beat the dog to death. I stopped playin for a week
Fear as I have come to see it is a persons own mind turning on them.....So the more a person thinks about there fears the more they consume themselves in fear for example if you think your going to die the more you will become paranoid to everything that could cause death so slowly you isolate themselves from anything and everything. the best trick as I learned when I was a gunner on a Black Hawk AKA Crash Hawk is to think that death is always nearby and fearing him will not stop him.
But by living to the fullest and not regretting what you have done. you will come to not fear him but to understand him and to understand death is to live your days without fear. I just want to tell you where I got this quote it was a friend of mine who was captured at Bataan at the start of world war II he had brushed with death and lived.
Yes, I know but reflex's are just one of your natural instincts that have been pressed into mankind since day one of his reign on this earth. Just to note that fear isn't bad it heightens ones sense and make that person more aware of their surroundings but to be a slave to fear isn't a good thing. lets move on, even the most hard pressed instincts or reflex's can be erased overtime for example most people don't fear eclipses anymore .

@pppie123 Penumbra isn't free. You can buy it for a fairly cheap price, on Steam or somewhere else. This game is NOTHING like F.E.A.R. To start off, you have no guns. There are weapons in the game, but for the most part they will be useless. You can acquire a hammer, a pick-axe, a broom, and some dynamite. The atmosphere of Penumbra is way scarier than F.E.A.R. Also scarier enemies, like a giant worm, which almost gave me a heart attack. This game is all about survival, whereas F.E.A.R. is FPS.
@pppie123 You won't regret it - I know I didn't! Also, the makers of Penumbra are making a new game called "Amnesia: The Dark Descent". I heard it's going to be even scarier, but knowing this game, I don't doubt it. I think it comes out on February 15th. Be sure to check that game out, if you're interested.
One more thing, if you people are playing these games in broad daylight, with birds chirping outside, and everything is bright and sunshiny, than of course the games aren't going to be scary you twits, to get full immersion, than you have to be playing in the dark at dusk or at night with the gamma low and the volume up, otherwise you won't be in the same frame of mind and the scare factor drops to zero.
Yeah, well, people are usually too... itchy to play and they don't read the recommendations. So yeah, broad sunlight, maybe a blond angel playing the harp... kinda hard to get scared in those conditions.
Scared the hell out of me too. The atmosphere of this game, and the other ones in the series are quite remarkable, especially when played in the dark and with the volume up. Those could have been written in any bodily fluid really, doesn't have to be semen, could be sweat, or urine, blood...
I kinda jumped at this part too at least only the first time. The atmosphere of the area was eerie and with the music and all. My reaction was literally "OMGWTFBBQ?!"
Yeah, I agree.This was really scary but I was also scared when I first met a dog, there was a wolf sound and then when I looked behind the crate i saw 2 yellow eyes god my heart jumped.But that one scared me too, the Grey Rock Worm tests or w/e scared me also, the "UV" things on the wall man when I went away up on that to get out of shaft 12 seriously I said this in real life: I am not going down there anymore god! but I had to do it later because of the letter.Finished the game in 1 day.

If you have not played this, you have no clue what you're talking about when you say it isn't creepy. Penumbra is a game that uses absolutely masterful atmospheric sounds to put you into a state of perfect paranoia and/or fear long before you reach this point. You're always on edge. This part scared the crap out of me more than any other part in the game -- my blood pressure went berserk. Seeing it in a video does it no justice, and in fact will probably ruin it if you've never played it before.

I feel ya man, but the scariest part for me was near the very beginning, when I barricaded the door, yet the demon dog, whom I've named Fido, still managed to silently creep through just as I looked up from lolling with my friend about how that scary ass dog has no chance of getting through the door. We both yelled, and literally leaped out of our chairs. I regained control of the computer and yelled until I beat the dog to death. I stopped playin for a week

Fear as I have come to see it is a persons own mind turning on them.....So the more a person thinks about there fears the more they consume themselves in fear for example if you think your going to die the more you will become paranoid to everything that could cause death so slowly you isolate themselves from anything and everything. the best trick as I learned when I was a gunner on a Black Hawk AKA Crash Hawk is to think that death is always nearby and fearing him will not stop him.

Yes, I know but reflex's are just one of your natural instincts that have been pressed into mankind since day one of his reign on this earth. Just to note that fear isn't bad it heightens ones sense and make that person more aware of their surroundings but to be a slave to fear isn't a good thing. lets move on, even the most hard pressed instincts or reflex's can be erased overtime for example most people don't fear eclipses anymore .

ive just started playing penumbra overture and i looked at the scientists notes u get in the spider caves part and in the notes it says that he drew markings on the walls. I so want to get to this part!

You guys should try out Amnesia: The dark descent if you liked this, its made by the same guys who made this and is much more scarier.
The reason i find it scary because it never shows any monster in it but makes you know perfectly well that they are there.

@pppie123 Penumbra isn't free. You can buy it for a fairly cheap price, on Steam or somewhere else. This game is NOTHING like F.E.A.R. To start off, you have no guns. There are weapons in the game, but for the most part they will be useless. You can acquire a hammer, a pick-axe, a broom, and some dynamite. The atmosphere of Penumbra is way scarier than F.E.A.R. Also scarier enemies, like a giant worm, which almost gave me a heart attack. This game is all about survival, whereas F.E.A.R. is FPS.

I heard it's going to be even scarier, but knowing this game, I don't doubt it. I think it comes out on February 15th. Be sure to check that game out, if you're interested.

One more thing, if you people are playing these games in broad daylight, with birds chirping outside, and everything is bright and sunshiny, than of course the games aren't going to be scary you twits, to get full immersion, than you have to be playing in the dark at dusk or at night with the gamma low and the volume up, otherwise you won't be in the same frame of mind and the scare factor drops to zero.

But now I am going on a play through, at night. And I love them in the dark, but I still look behind me every once in a while XD

Scared the hell out of me too. The atmosphere of this game, and the other ones in the series are quite remarkable, especially when played in the dark and with the volume up. Those could have been written in any bodily fluid really, doesn't have to be semen, could be sweat, or urine, blood...

Yeah, I agree.This was really scary but I was also scared when I first met a dog, there was a wolf sound and then when I looked behind the crate i saw 2 yellow eyes god my heart jumped.But that one scared me too, the Grey Rock Worm tests or w/e scared me also, the "UV" things on the wall man when I went away up on that to get out of shaft 12 seriously I said this in real life: I am not going down there anymore god! but I had to do it later because of the letter.Finished the game in 1 day.

If you have not played this, you have no clue what you're talking about when you say it isn't creepy. Penumbra is a game that uses absolutely masterful atmospheric sounds to put you into a state of perfect paranoia and/or fear long before you reach this point. You're always on edge. This part scared the crap out of me more than any other part in the game -- my blood pressure went berserk. Seeing it in a video does it no justice, and in fact will probably ruin it if you've never played it before.
