people don't half over-rate this. its not even that good. the main character is pish at acting the other actors are far better, the storyline is unrealistic no matter how hard it tries to be real. the only good thing about is that in general it shows what the bad areas of scotland are actually like.

Superb film in it's gritty realism. Ken Loach's best in my view. Martin Compston really plays an emotionally tumultuous character wonderfully. The end is really sad.

...Somehow...although he loves his mum to pieces, I think his anger stems somewhere from the tragic knowing as well, that his mum will never break certain habits...

Aww mahn :| this is a classic film ;) a seen it when it first came out about in a think it was ... 2002? anyway it was one or if not the best movie ave ever seen. i just live a couple of miles away from where the movie was made and i think that alot of people can relate to this but not just from scotland but from all over the world. one word... Masterpiece
