I was just reading her interview in the Feb '09 Dance Europe: she is also on the cover. She is a wonderful dancer! Wow! I am so smitten by the women of ballet; I have been falling in love all over the place. Beautiful Elena!
she's beautiful but neither do I like this fast version. like it's been said before the music seems inconsequent to her movements which is not her fault. usually the music and the movements don't exist independently they kind of conflate into one thing and that's what makes a performance so special. and i'm not postive about the piqués at the end... it just doesn't look smooth.
gotta add i did this fast version today in class, with a very old choreography but same piqués at the end. i tell u u gotta rush through the exercise room... not very nice. after these 2 minutes i gasped for breath. the fast music was good for the choreography but still... i prefer the slower version it's more dramatic and soft and to me it's way easier to perform odette when i don't feel like i'd be in a great hurry but when there's time to make the most of every movement.
@Juventina1005 But you have to realize Odette is in a time crunch, she's trying to express herself. The choreography tells the story, She doesn't have time to be slow.
@GallofaSwan well i get what u mean but i like the other version better. it's easier for me, i don't like rushing and feeling like i don't really end every movement. just a personal opinion but i think the reason why every other company i know does the slower version.
Great ballerina, but the musicality ist just terrible. It is not her fault, its again the choreographer like allways in Dresden with crazy tempi! He has no idea of big classics. SHE NEED IT SLOWER!!!
@solor1 your comment is interesting, since I've just listened to the entire Swan Lake music recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra and the speed of this section is even faster than this. And IMHO it sounds much better and makes more sense than the slow versions people dance.

Music is too fast for her phrasing, it looks as though she's just doing steps that are inconsequential to the music. Way to ruin a variation.
