There wont be a big difference between those 2. when playing at higher resolution u need higher bandwidth so than the 8800GTS would be a better choice.

GTS has half textures but double adressing units. which makes a higher bandwidth possible but with lesser Texture power.

I had the option to get Vista for free, in fact I have the 64bit ultimate on my computer(one of my slave HDD's), but I prefer my XP pro 64bit for sure... The only time I use Vista is for crysis and sometimes Bioshock. I personally just don't like the way it looks or the structure. DarkSider will like Windows 7 though, because it is basically going to be Vista with no bugs or RAM leech.

Pretty much any of the post-PixelShaders Direct X could pull any graphic effects. The difference is how much work it takes. Some things that could take days to code with DX9 could take 3 lines of code with DX10, for example. Same way with DX8 vs DX9, and so on. Heck, you could code directly to the videocard buffer! It would just take a few hours to have a freagin rotating cube with gradiant on screen, but you could!

dx8 (sm1.3) has way a too low limit for simultaneous shaders instructions on a cene (something like 16 instructions)

dx9 (sm2) took that up to 96

dx9.1 (sm3) rose that up again to 512 or something

dunno about dx10 tho

beside, pre-sm2 cards have fixed shader effects (not programable)

so no, you can't render anything on any dx

sm4 has also a few (veeeeeeery few) stuff that can't be done on sm3

yes 2 gig ram will run smooth on XP cuz it's XP and its not vista vista needs about 1.5 gig of ram to run smooth. then more so programs can run smooth. 3D Mark is to stress your stuff fully. 2 gig is nothing on 3d mark.

Vista runs fine on 2Gb, it eats up about 1gb doing jack, but I now have 4gb jut for RAM intensive apps, but in my experience 2gb done fine up til now and still is fine for most gaming machines. With 3DMark its mostly about CPU and GPU anyway. Please tell me that Q6600 is nice and overclocked :D My Q9450 is hitting 3.6Ghz but yet to try Vantage out on it
