I wasn't sold on the S1000RR because of the different sides, but always had my jaw drop by its performance, when I finally went and checked one out at the dealer I was in love. With all the features it is about $18,000, but the bike is built so well I have never seen anything like it. I have been a huge Japanese sportbike fan for about 14 years, now that has all changed.
@BenEoS89 when they were developing the F1, they were useing a big block chevrolet engine but then had to switch to a BMW because it just wouldnt "seem" right.... haha...

Well, I'm European (dutch) too, only I like Japs better; a GSX-R 2007 - 2008 is prettier by design. This bike is good, only its to "short". It reminds me of a ZX10R actually.
@dexteroux BMW has set so many standards when it comes to motorcycles. I still prefer the old airheads, not much power but my 20 year old GS smokes most sport bikes in the twistys. I was beginning to think I was Rossi until I rode a few of those crotch rockets, man they handle like crap compared to my old Beemer. Now they have pulled out all the stops and the rest of the bike world is lookin at the tail of the BMW. Hell look at the car technology they can transfer, Jap bikes are on notice.

@505197 I have agree that BMW can bring alot to the Sportsbike market, have to disagree on the Flogging of most sports bikes in the twisties, the GS is a great bike, for its purpose. But if you are saying that they handle like crap compared to a top heavy GS through the twisties, you are crazy. There is a reason that MotoGP/WSBK arn't riding Enduro class bikes around the track.
@NickSoldal Most peopl run out of talent before they use up the capabilitys of a sport bike. The GS is one if the easiest bikes I've seen to ride fast...up to a point. It's a forgiving bike and easy to toss around with it's suspension geometry and wide bars. You can lean it over and let go of the bars, it tracks like it's on a string. I have an oilhead R1100R and it's not nearly as good in the twistys. I rarely ride it, it has less then 7K on it and the GS has 106K. You have to try one.
@505197 I've ridden an 07 1150GS good for its purpose i agree and its really easy to ride for the size of the thing, but compared to my 08GSXR750 and 09 CBR1000RR around the twisties/track it holds very little light. But i do have to agree with you in regards to the talent loss of most people on sportsbikes. I spose i am just bias tho because most of my riding buddies and I race in amateur leagues. So it felt a little alien to ride something with such wide bars

@mushrume WSB titles don't mean shit. At that level, its mostly down to rider skills, precision set up for the tracks and some luck to take a title. Two guys I know who both ride 06 R1's who are basically the bike 'gods' of the group rode a guys 1000rr. Both of them were blown away by the bike and the other guy went out and pre-ordered a 1000rr the next day after putting his R1 up for sale, a bike he said he would never sell. All that without a WSB title, holy shit! Don't be a poser.

It's certain that BMW's motorcycles are more classy than Japanese ones but I'm sure they are obviously slower than Japanese motorcycles in racetracks.
I think that the best superbikes are this BMW and the Honda CBR1000RR.....Duccatis and MV Augustas are too expensive.I'd buy BMW for its performance and road behaviour and the Honda for its brakes,looks,and friendly-to-use character
its a powerful bike no doubt, but all you in here hating on japanese bikes, should know this. BMW spent the past 5 years reverse engineering the japanese bikes to get this. they took the best of the four major jap brands to come up with this. If they didnt do that and started from scratch. they wouldnt of came up with this bike. I'm sorta glad they did this, because its going to make the other manufacturers work harder, just like when the 1998 R1 came out and spanked everybody else at that time.

The Fireblade, R1, GXR and the Ninja; they're all blown away. however it has indeed just been made for performance, you kinda miss the emotion behind it... or at least I do. Oh and for the record, I can't afford it either.

I think that the best superbikes are this BMW and the Honda CBR1000RR.....Duccatis and MV Augustas are too expensive.I'd buy BMW for its performance and road behaviour and the Honda for its brakes,looks,and friendly-to-use character

its a powerful bike no doubt, but all you in here hating on japanese bikes, should know this. BMW spent the past 5 years reverse engineering the japanese bikes to get this. they took the best of the four major jap brands to come up with this. If they didnt do that and started from scratch. they wouldnt of came up with this bike. I'm sorta glad they did this, because its going to make the other manufacturers work harder, just like when the 1998 R1 came out and spanked everybody else at that time.
