I have a question, first off im new so im sorry if i come off as a newb, but when your playing a paradiddle, it would be (since im a righty i prob would start off) right, left, then RIGHT, RIGHT, then left, right, LEFT, LEFT...
Now my question is as you get faster does the RIGHT, RIGHT, and LEFT, LEFT turn into a double stroke roll ( where u make it rebound) or is it just two fast single strikes???
Again sorry if i sound dumb but please can someone help me out!!!
@WhatsHisPhac3 Well, I'm doing double stroke rolls, it's faster, and sound better. At least, for me. But, if you wnat to do double stroke roll, then make sure that you'r doing them right.
@Valcarion: those, my friend, are called single and double paradiddles. hence the video of, double paradiddles. just cuz you mastered every other instrument dont mean you know everything about all of them.
oh really?Because I believe when I said single and doubles, I was actually referring to single and double dick rolls
what the fuck did you think I was talking about?Of course I know what they're called! And I never said I knew everything about ANY of them. All I was saying was that I was excited to start learning drums, and wanted to share what I discovered, and maybe got some feedback as to some better techniques or w/e.
hahaha okay easy man im just makin sure youre not one of those dick bags who think they can play any instrument ever but youre actually a kool guy so no apologies necessary
omg for all you fucking idiots when u play a rudiment you play it from slow to fast your not suppose to play it at one tempo that not how you get better, and yes the accents are suppose to be on teh rudiment for all you idiots that is says oh your horrible your putting accents on it your suppose to do that thats what you do, so maby u should rigure a thing or two about drumming before you start calling people bad drummers
@partyboy3172008 youre correct; and one more thing, when your hands start to become tight, youre not able to play it good. what im saying is that when you have your hands "relaxed" when playing, youre playing the right difficulty for you :)
@partyboy3172008 The other guy's top comment is better than yours. Mainly because he didn't call everyone who watched this video, people who didn't make comments included, fucking idiots. Now we all hate you and wish a psycho homeless man would walk up to you on the street, say "Like me gum!" and stab you.
buy a metronome as soon as posible, there is nothing worse in a band than a drummer out of tempo. And the worse thing is that the longer you keep practicing without metronome the longer it will take you to fix your tempo, you will create a bad habit, you will play and think your tempo is good but the rest of the band will start complaining.
Yes ncurry, the standard way to practice all rolls is to accent the single(s) The 6 and 10 stroke rolls have 2 accented singles. It's advised that you alternate (start with different hand each time) the 17 stroke roll. ALSO practice this rudiment with multiple strokes, buzzing each stick except for the last note single. REMEMBER the UNaccented noted are low stick height and accented notes are high strokes. This video is not a good example because he does note alternate the rolls.
I'm going to be a complete ass and point out that you missed the diddle at :22. now on a more serious note. thanks a lot for these, they are every useful. and just for fun you should post a rudimentary solo. keep it up :)

its good to use these sticks for your practice pad. and then when you get back to your snare, use the sticks you usually use. it helps so much.
q34r34t 1 year ago
@whathisphac3 you let the stick bounce kind of like a double stroke. You should never have tension in your hands. Just make it all feel relaxed.

besides obvious rudiments such as the single stroke roll, I use this rudiment all the friggin time when playing solo or with a band. So versatile.

Just bought myself my first set, a PDP X7, yesterday, figured I knew every other rock instrument, it was time to master this one
I do the doubles at 176 comfortably
and the singles at 208 comfortably
at first, I found the singles to be harder, but then I tried something new and found they were way easier than I thought
for anyone who caresI start an RLRL pattern as 8th notes, then change the pattern to RLRRLRLL or RLRLRRLRLRLL
easier way to apporach it methinks
