I love reading the comments for Domestic car videos. There is always a Muscle car fanatic having a bitch fit because someone said something they didn't like..even tho it was probably true. lol
they say the americans have finally caught up with european technology but truth be told, the chassis and suspension actually comes from an AUSTRALIAN car called the Holden Commodore VE SS
@perf5paul yes, while this car was not built 100% Aussie Holden is working on a coupe of their own based off the 100% ground up VE Commodore. Its concept name, the Holden Coupe 60
@perf5paul The coupe 60 is just a concept for now, whether or not it hits production will depend on decisions made by GM global and whether or not it could sell in other countries, the decision will depend on reactions from manufacturers in the United States in particular. Oh and just to explain the name its called the coupe 60 as it was a concept Holden made to celebrate their 60th anniversary, if it does hit production, it will be based on the Commodore and be called the Monaro as before .
I hate this car for several reasons: The styling compromises visibility/space, the handling is atrocious and the interior is cheap. The new Mustang GT is faster (with less hp) and doesn't suffer from these issues.
@andgate2000 but the australian designs for the Camaro are based on the original AMERICAN designs that were used in the 60s-90s and early 2000s. Either way, what point r u tryna prov
@1through9athrewz actullay no there not .....the camaro is based on the commadore platform...which was 100% australian developed.....as australia is the only rear drive research and development part to the GM empire
C'mon, you think that road trip was indicative of all of Americans? Those idiots were practically chosen by the Top Gear editors. Really. If you meet Yanks that say America is the greatest country on earth, just grin and bear it. Its just the way they are, but it's not mean spirited. Yea, a bit obnoxious, but so what. Don't dislike us unless you're met a number of us and gave us a chance. If you don't like us because you think we stick our noses into places they belong, I can respect that.
It really is time for Brits to stop looking down their noses at Americans. Damn Clarkson, Hamster and Capt. Slow tried their best to find the worst of America and make it look typical. Its not. Not even close. Our cars are designed to be straight runners simply because our roads are so wide and straight. Just the nature of the geography. And, if you've ever been a Brit visiting the States, you can attest to the fact that Americans are ridiculously friendly. Please, we are not THAT bad.
" you can attest to the fact that Americans are ridiculously friendly"
Well maybe but also a bit obnoxious. When we see an american describing USA it most likely will end up in "It's God's greatest country on earth" (if we're lucky they'll just describe it as the surviving super-power of the cold war).
It should however be said that this car is great. American styling, Australian suspension (now it just needs Mercedes AMG's 6.2L M159 V8 engine(the same one as in the SLS)).
@MrFalconfly As an American I can agree with what you said about it being obnoxious when we say "Greatest country on the planet". Even as somebody who lives in the "obnoxious" country, it annoys me.
As off topic as that comment is and as an American I also get annoyed when people say stuff like that, its like you can be the greatest country in the world without actually being great at anything. America isn't number 1 in a lot of things now days in fact we are far from that spot so I think greatest country in the world is something that we have to earn and not just declare upon ourselves at the cost of countries who actually work at being better.
@salsasnacker Eh, it is a great country, I will give you that, but its a biggot move to argue that you are "better" than another person, much less a whole other culture.
@giply2 hi , i'm german, (soon to move to America) and even if people seem to have a problem with hearing that America is the greatest country on earth (which i fully agree with btw), my question would be, what other country then is? if not America!?, regardless of her hardships and troubles.
@CHUUMPASS There are so many different ways you can argue that your country is better, that a country will always be able to claim that they have something over another. So no matter what someone says no country can claim to be the greatest.
But this is my opinion, one that is coming from a random person one the internet. Glad to have you coming to the country :P
@giply2 which country do you think is the greatest? it may seem arrogant to say that the u.s is the greatest country on the planet but SOMONE has to be it.
Not to nit pick but Camaro's have had independent rear suspension since 1993. I agree that the new one's are way too heavy but that's typical of most modern cars(name one car that's lighter now than it was 20 years ago). I'm surprised he didn't mention the horrible steering wheel.
do we have an aussie crown loyalist here depending on data and opinions from based fish n`chips reports ? too bad that most of the once so proud british car companies are mostly foreign owned and funded these days, germany and even INDIA, also like it`s been said, holden australia is fully funded and owned by GM, much like opel, so anything to come from there comes from underneath an american umbrella, that is internationalized like such big corporations ought to be these days, cheers.
@CHUUMPASS . That's as maybe, but it was STILL Australians that designed the suspension on the Camaro.
Still Mexicans that build the engines, GM or not.
And with your comments about Canada being America, say that to a Canadian and you won't be standing up for long. And as far as travel is concerned, I have been to the USA 5 times in the last 3 years and seen a lot of it and I very much doubt that you have seen as much of the world as I have. Yes, British cars are crap.
@ozzroadrunner your opinion in all honor, and as far as candians are concerned, i couldn't help but laugh, there are in fact many canadian themselves who can't quite explain why canada is another country apart from the u.s. admitting that canada has slowly but sure become more and more intergrated with the u.s.. don't wanna open up that discussion here as this is not the right place, but rest assured that canada is american in many ways as i have just stated it,
@CHUUMPASS Canada is very different from the US.Canadians for one believe in universal health-care, climate change and actually keeping religion out of politics like our constitution says.We have higher educational standards, a higher standard of living, less poverty, and distinctly more liberal and progressive views on hard issues. 95% of our population gets offended when traveling abroad and a person mistakes us for an American. We even pronounce Z differently and spell some words differently.
@1through9athrewz I don't see how "Zee" can ever sound more masculine than "Zed" Nothing ending in "ee" is cool. & how far back did you look in the comments to find that I posted that ages ago.
@ozzroadrunner if you care to get a more detailed insight about this topic, you may want to look up the name "les horswill" (there is even a clip about him here on YT) listen to what the guy points out and you will understand my point.
Some yank wrote on here that they were responsible for the 1st independent rear end on early 50's Corvette, DUH! didn't Volkswagen have that in the 30's ??????
now lets not forget the new 5.0 mustang will beat the camaro in any class, except overall power, yes the camaro does have 426hp out of a 6.2, bu the 5.0 puts down 412hp. and the new 5.0 was only 1/10th of a second of the new M3, the mustang will out run the camaro , you cant even see when you drive the camaro
@rider4life51 Ha haha tell that to the 10k+ per month buyers. Sure I like the mustang also but camaro has outsold Mustang for the last 13 or so months by about 2k cars a month. Somebody can see out.
I like how EVERYONE makes such a big deal out of the Camaro's super-awesome independent suspension, and no one even breathes a whisper about the Challenger's independent rear suspension. And the Camaro SS has 426hp, which at the time made it the MOST POWERFUL Pony Car on sale at the time of it's release... beating the Challenger by one horsepower. So everyone goes out and buys Camaros, and then they wonder why everyone in the real world is staring at the Challenger instead of their Chevy.
@DThaeman The Challenger got a six-speed manual a couple months after it was introduced. Besides, the manual transmission has never really been a big part of the muscle car heritage - most of the hot Camaros and 'Cudas you see at the drag strip use automatics, because as soon as the three-speed Torqueflite automatic came out in the late '50s, they actually turned better quarter-mile times. That's not necessarily true today, and i too would take my Challenger in a manual, but there it is.
European cars were a joke up until the late 70s. The technology and styling was from the 1940s. In fact they had no styling. They were ugly little rounded shaped boxes on wheels. Look at picture of Britain in the 1960s and the cars still had 1940s euro styling. and thats butt ugly. American 40s styles were classic. The only you might want from the there would be an old MG or Triumh.
@matrox in the 70s when we were making cars like the lamborghini Muria/countach ferrari daytona/dino/308 porsche 911 and i can go on and on,It took your first comment on a serious note buf after reading thise and going past the old pages and here is what i have to say: dude with all due respect you are just full of shit.
From this American to Jason Plato ,,, bloody great review! We make junk....most of the time. But, you highlighted the best bits of GM's effort to make a respectable American car.
I can't stand GM, but I'm proud when the bean counters get it right, despite the unionists and pensioners!
the new top gear suck,s. but you call us yank that,s fine. cause every time i go to the uk your girls love to ride my big huge yank COCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@davelex08 You hit that one on the head. The American version just sucks. I had higher hopes, but it's too much about the hosts and not enough about the cars. Plus, they go out and do all of this stupid crap that really isn't all that interesting and (again) it takes away from the cars.
When I first saw the Camaro Concept at the Chicago Auto Show, I almost started to cry because they actually thought about bringing back the Camaro. At the Auto Show, I wanted to get a close look at it, but the crowd was so big around it, I could not squeeze through.
top gear fucced up with that review, how are they gonna compare an american muscle car to a historyless amg mercedes, they r retarded, we get it, they got the luxury german cars, but they will never be carismatic nor loved like a muscle car
@marcelonator lol did you just call AMG history-less...? Mercedes has more history than the American constitution. Top gear reviews ARE a bit biased though, but dont knock Benz... Especially AMG. Thats just ridiculous.
I think this is a better review than Top Gear for not comparing it to something that is out of its price range. You just cannot compare a Camaro to an AMG E-Class, there's no contest!
the brits are so overrated they suck anyway im a porsche lover but i wouldn,t mind at all to own one of these camaros , as a matter fact id be a proud owner . the 1968 camaro is my favorite muscle car of all time .
He forgets that leaf springs are the best springs on cars when the cars were highway cruisers the length of boats. Independent rear suspension would be a total waste of money . US cars back in the day were made for cross country highway cruising. No one ever bought 65 Oldsmobile 98 to see how fast they could drive it around a short track. They were for coast to coast cruising with comfort in mind.
@matrox say word, i used to drive an 89 caprice classic. perfect car for a drive from montreal to toronto...actually perfect for crusing anywhere. but it wouldnt go very far if i opened her up in the city streets
@matrox I think alot does understand the philosophie is quite different between the US and EU and it's still till now, but seriously Z06 leaf springs! i mean come on! that is supposed to be a sport model...
@InitialDAmine Get back to me when you know a little bit about what you are talking about. A Z06 has never had leaf springs. Anyone with minimum knowledge would know that.
@matrox You are the one that needs really to checks his facts here, it is has transverse leaf springs and cast-aluminium short-long arm (double wishbone) you sir fail.
I love how they forget that we developed the first independent rear suspension on the first corvetes. We just didnt see the big deal to put it on everything
@xtelevisionset No 17 city/29 mpg Highway is 19 MPG combined, so the Camaro does get a little better. But comparing a Ferrari to a Chevy every-man-americans car is like comparing a well done beef to apple pie.
I love all cars cause of wat they deliver, I love an american car, cause of their insane intimidation and power and looks. I love a Euro car cause of its elegance, beauty and art it brings 2 the motor world, I love Asian cars for would those crazy nerd can catch on with an ordinary family car and make it run with the best. Everyone here has 2 admit, that all of ur own cars has its pros and cons, So dont go biting off each others heads cause someone likes something different 2 wat u do..
@tom9665 This is an American Muscle car, it isn't meant to be a luxurious ride but rather for the fun and sport of going fast. Obviously Germans are masterminds at engineering and their cars are top line, but Americans have some luxury at least in Cadillacs and Corvettes. Otherwise, while I love the new Camaro with a passion, I also love BMW's and Audi's. I would love to have an Audi A8 and a Camaro SS in my garage, each being usefulfor thei own purpose...
i think as an american that all other countries are inferior to ours and we are better than all of you.... especiall you mexico fudge off.... canada ur kool =)....brits are obnoxious.....russians r creepy... fthe french are queer...and once again we are better than you

@InitialDAmine they all sucked compared to the muscle cars !!!
weedmastersr 9 months ago
@weedmastersr sure, the cars that defined the Supercar, the ultimate driving experience, sucked compared to muscle cars...
InitialDAmine 9 months ago
@InitialDAmine Oh ...ohhh...you mean the exotic cars that know one could afford. Lets get back on subject with the common mans shoebox car.

From this American to Jason Plato ,,, bloody great review! We make junk....most of the time. But, you highlighted the best bits of GM's effort to make a respectable American car.
I can't stand GM, but I'm proud when the bean counters get it right, despite the unionists and pensioners!

@r1inoz either way,i watch both and find the bbc guys much more entertaining. The new US version just plain sucks
davelex08 1 year ago
@davelex08 You hit that one on the head. The American version just sucks. I had higher hopes, but it's too much about the hosts and not enough about the cars. Plus, they go out and do all of this stupid crap that really isn't all that interesting and (again) it takes away from the cars.

When I first saw the Camaro Concept at the Chicago Auto Show, I almost started to cry because they actually thought about bringing back the Camaro. At the Auto Show, I wanted to get a close look at it, but the crowd was so big around it, I could not squeeze through.
boombaby183 1 year ago
the reason it is better than any muscle car before
is it was designed by australians
not americans
hsv0909 1 year ago 2
@hsv0909 So are you saying Americans just suck?
matrox 1 year ago
@matrox no im saying that they took credit for a car designed of a aussie car
hsv0909 1 year ago
@hsv0909 You mean Holden? Holden is a GM division in Austrailia.
matrox 1 year ago
@matrox maybe Holden is GM, but us Aussies designed it.

@ozzroadrunner Sure..under the supervision of GM America. All of there paychecks say GM at the top.

@matrox Yes and the last run of Pontiac GTO's or Vauxhall XR8's are entirely built in Australia.

@ozzroadrunner Hmmm...yeh...I hated that new GTO. Just plane ugly. Thats why no one bought them. Now show me a 65-70 GTO and we can talk.

top gear fucced up with that review, how are they gonna compare an american muscle car to a historyless amg mercedes, they r retarded, we get it, they got the luxury german cars, but they will never be carismatic nor loved like a muscle car
marcelonator 1 year ago
@marcelonator lol did you just call AMG history-less...? Mercedes has more history than the American constitution. Top gear reviews ARE a bit biased though, but dont knock Benz... Especially AMG. Thats just ridiculous.
PerzDVP 1 year ago
I think this is a better review than Top Gear for not comparing it to something that is out of its price range. You just cannot compare a Camaro to an AMG E-Class, there's no contest!
redknightricky 1 year ago
@redknightricky I completely agree. I was pissed when i saw that episode. An amg mercedes compared to a affordable muscle car. wtf?

a cayman is a boxter with a hardtop roof and a bigger engine, but a cayenne is porches suv

So he compares it to an SUV while telling us how it handles around a race track. Not exactly a useful review.

They were for coast to coast cruising with comfort in mind.
matrox 1 year ago 27
@matrox I agree.

@matrox say word, i used to drive an 89 caprice classic. perfect car for a drive from montreal to toronto...actually perfect for crusing anywhere. but it wouldnt go very far if i opened her up in the city streets
mrst3wy 10 months ago
@matrox I think alot does understand the philosophie is quite different between the US and EU and it's still till now, but seriously Z06 leaf springs! i mean come on! that is supposed to be a sport model...
InitialDAmine 9 months ago
@InitialDAmine Get back to me when you know a little bit about what you are talking about. A Z06 has never had leaf springs. Anyone with minimum knowledge would know that.
matrox 9 months ago
@matrox You are the one that needs really to checks his facts here, it is has transverse leaf springs and cast-aluminium short-long arm (double wishbone) you sir fail.

I love how they forget that we developed the first independent rear suspension on the first corvetes. We just didnt see the big deal to put it on everything

@95PurpleHaze
Didn't Volkswagens in the 30's have independent rear suspension, so that would make your comment WRONG!!!!!

Ferrari produces 100 horsepower more in their 458 Italia with two less liters.
That's an entire s2000 or Evo or WRX engine.
xtelevisionset 1 year ago
@xtelevisionset Yes, but the larger displacement offers better fuel economy and durability.
CDTbossy 1 year ago
@CDTbossy They both get 17 mpg.
xtelevisionset 1 year ago
@xtelevisionset No 17 city/29 mpg Highway is 19 MPG combined, so the Camaro does get a little better. But comparing a Ferrari to a Chevy every-man-americans car is like comparing a well done beef to apple pie.
CDTbossy 1 year ago
I love all cars cause of wat they deliver, I love an american car, cause of their insane intimidation and power and looks. I love a Euro car cause of its elegance, beauty and art it brings 2 the motor world, I love Asian cars for would those crazy nerd can catch on with an ordinary family car and make it run with the best. Everyone here has 2 admit, that all of ur own cars has its pros and cons, So dont go biting off each others heads cause someone likes something different 2 wat u do..

Compare American to german
tom9665 1 year ago
@tom9665 2011 Mustang GT vs BMW M3. Nuff said.
Toromont123 1 year ago
@tom9665 This is an American Muscle car, it isn't meant to be a luxurious ride but rather for the fun and sport of going fast. Obviously Germans are masterminds at engineering and their cars are top line, but Americans have some luxury at least in Cadillacs and Corvettes. Otherwise, while I love the new Camaro with a passion, I also love BMW's and Audi's. I would love to have an Audi A8 and a Camaro SS in my garage, each being usefulfor thei own purpose...
Manbeast222 1 year ago
@Manbeast222
I think we would all love to have any luxury car or muscle car in our garages no matter what anyone says on youtube.
