Don't thank us ,thank Barbra for stickin with them lessons instead of hangin out !!!!! I was working on an ARP Oddysey at a local studio many years ago when the studio owner commented that the Hammond was a "dead instrument nobody has interest in!"I'm so glad he was wrong on both counts.I personally love the mere mention of it and as a guitar player and audiophile of many, many years I will still turn it up whenever i hear that shimmering Hammond,Leslie sound anytime of the day or night.
I used to catch Jimmy every chance I got but this gal is fantastic. Jimmy will be missed for sure but Barbara picks up right where he left off. Just wish I could see her live. There's NOTHING like a live performance.
It would be interesting to hear her play with Dave Samuels the xylophonist from Spyro Gyro. Audi should use her talents in commercials. I could visualize myself in an A8 with this track in my ears and my eyes on a road basking in the summer dusk.
I just posted a new website for Jimmy Smith, Jr. who grew up playing Jazz Drums for his dad. You can hear him playing drums on a live set and a few studio tunes with Tony Monaco. it is here - fulbrightit dot cm fwd-slash JimmySmithJr

Barbara you are simply awesome. Very listenable and also while pressing the edges.. Your left foot is a treasure!!

I'm just walking along the road, minding my own business listening to this great, great music. And then she sneaks up on me at 4:51 and just KILLS it. This is just superb.
P.S. This is what organ playing is all about. It takes years to play the bass pedals and she plays them right, kicks them a certain way to get that great sound, that is why you see the old players using a cane, this is hard man!!!!!
She has a bass synth for the pedals. Does that synth have a long decay? She doesn't seem to play with heels. I wonder how she gets that groovy legato playing on the foot.
@jazzpedals she has a string bass unit connected to the pedals, every hammond needs one.however ,learning to "stomp" the original stops, like a theatre organ is also very poweful and evervating. You have to put so much attention on it that it becomes a thing unto itself.
Hans, I'm sure this is available on DVD but I've not been able to locate it any store. I love Barbara Dennerlein's music and would like to add this DVD to my jazz & classical collection. Could you kindly let me know the title of this DVD so that I stop sharpshooting in the dark. Thanks for all your music. You've got great taste :)
Our Keyboard man played a B3 with the old style Leslie back in the late 60's through the 80's. He could get down, but for some reason he didn't look as good as her. Heck she can play better bass with her feet than I can with my hands! This girl is BEYOND great, and by the way I love B3's. I don't think this combo, she and the hammond can be beat! I can listen to her all day! FANTASTIC!!!
There is Rhoda Scott too. I was likely to attend one concert given by the 2 better organists (women) on the world close to Narbonne (France) in July 2008. That happiness! True dream!
Absolutely, I love Rhoda's playing too. Personally I don't like calling anyone "the best" - I know Barbara thinks of music as a celebration, not a competition - she and Rhoda are good friends.
100% of agreement with you. One cannot compare them. They are complementary. They have each one a different course. With final, for us, it is brilliant.
Fantastic feel, great rhythmic variation and dynamics, very musical, great musical interaction with the drums (very good). Thanks a lot to Lance Brown for sending me this very inspiring Video, greets Vic.
At 4:53 the piano sounds in the left hand. Why not stay with it for that solo? Yes, we are listening to every note you play. You are the best. Come to the USA and tour.
I personally think Hammond Jazz would get a boost if you team up with another great like Tony or Joey. Try to duplicate the magic from Incredible.
i was lucky to see jimmy smith at the chicago jazz showcase for two days in a row. barbara dennerlein is carrying on the hammond organ tradition in a most outstanding way. may she have many years of joyful, soulful music.

Good to hear Dennerlein given ample time to stretch out in a long 10 min groove session with only drums as backing.
The drumming is, by the way, very good from Messina.
