  • Don't thank us ,thank Barbra for stickin with them lessons instead of hangin out !!!!! I was working on an ARP Oddysey at a local studio many years ago when the studio owner commented that the Hammond was a "dead instrument nobody has interest in!"I'm so glad he was wrong on both counts.I personally love the mere mention of it and as a guitar player and audiophile of many, many years I will still turn it up whenever i hear that shimmering Hammond,Leslie sound anytime of the day or night.

  • I've been playing the B3 for a while now and was never able to get a vibes or up right bass sound out if it, lol.

  • I love her

  • I used to catch Jimmy every chance I got but this gal is fantastic. Jimmy will be missed for sure but Barbara picks up right where he left off. Just wish I could see her live. There's NOTHING like a live performance.

  • Thanks God, Barbara found Jazz and Jazz found Barbara,...

  • Thanks God, Barbara found Jazz and Jazz found Barbara,...

  • It would be interesting to hear her play with Dave Samuels the xylophonist from Spyro Gyro. Audi should use her talents in commercials. I could visualize myself in an A8 with this track in my ears and my eyes on a road basking in the summer dusk.

  • I just discovered her. I wish I did long ago. She has the gift. Not many people can expand rhythm and melody into purity, in one stream, at once!

  • 3 people have hemorrhoids instead of ears..!

  • @CAGED1702 They got paid from youtube. Looks more democratic... There are always 3.

  • Incredible. She is awesome...

  • I just posted a new website for Jimmy Smith, Jr. who grew up playing Jazz Drums for his dad. You can hear him playing drums on a live set and a few studio tunes with Tony Monaco. it is here - fulbrightit dot cm fwd-slash JimmySmithJr

Barbara you are simply awesome. Very listenable and also while pressing the edges.. Your left foot is a treasure!!

    Thanks

  • Most amazing are the bass lines, and where is Ray Anderson and his Trombone??

  • Fabulous composition and performance; so glad to know musicianship and heritage are still valued

    Thanks lots for posting

  • My bloody god, this woman is amazing in any way.

  • too good

  • Great job Barbara! That's what jazz organs are made for!

  • F A N T A S T I Q U E

  • Outstanding!

  • GRANDIOSE!!!! ENERGIE STUPEFIANTE!! MERCI!!

  • Une grande....excellent

  • Its was neat seeing the picture of Barbara and Jimmy Smith!!!

  • My bucket list just grew...have GOT to see this woman live!

COME TO THE JAZZ KITCHEN IN INDY, Barb!

  • Such beautiful music - what a groove!

  • I'd love to know who the drummer is too

  • kyllä barbara laulattaa bluesin pohjia myöten kun kuulin ensi kerran se oli iloinen shokki. bassokin on niin bluesinen. viisi tähteä .

  • ovo je fantazija

  • A class on her own. Jimmy smith would be so pleased tohere this.

  • All her ability and talent and a lovely long, long neck also! WOW

  • THIS OLD FARYTALE!!!

  • I'VE PLAYED WITH HER LAST WEEKEND!!!!

    SHE'S REALLY NICE!!!

    I LIKE HER VERY MUCH!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Wow!

  • I'm just walking along the road, minding my own business listening to this great, great music. And then she sneaks up on me at 4:51 and just KILLS it. This is just superb.

  • An incredibly talented woman, extraordinary playing and footwork and such beautiful feet too!!!- a one in a million combination!!!

  • Amazing talent and a lovely long neck into the bargain!

  • P.S. This is what organ playing is all about. It takes years to play the bass pedals and she plays them right, kicks them a certain way to get that great sound, that is why you see the old players using a cane, this is hard man!!!!!

  • Great sound. LIke the sound of the bass.Good chords!!

  • Thats some fancy foot work! im very impressed and motivated

  • she's amazing...

  • amazing !

  • She has a bass synth for the pedals. Does that synth have a long decay? She doesn't seem to play with heels. I wonder how she gets that groovy legato playing on the foot.

  • @jazzpedals she has a string bass unit connected to the pedals, every hammond needs one.however ,learning to "stomp" the original stops, like a theatre organ is also very poweful and evervating. You have to put so much attention on it that it becomes a thing unto itself.

  • This young lady is a credit to womanhood ! I would love to see her perform or record with candy dulfer. Bud Barrale USA

  • @Beppe

  • wonderful player....Jimmy's sound with something extra....dancin' feet!! She really swings

  • STRAORDINARIA BARBARA!

  • "Why bother hiring a bass player when your foot can do the job?"

    - Barbara Dennerlein

  • Barbara is fantastic organist hammond b3.I wonder how much time she learned to play?

  • @organy15 She started playing when she was 9.....performing at 13 8~)

  • Great drummer!!!!!

  • Hans, I'm sure this is available on DVD but I've not been able to locate it any store. I love Barbara Dennerlein's music and would like to add this DVD to my jazz & classical collection. Could you kindly let me know the title of this DVD so that I stop sharpshooting in the dark. Thanks for all your music. You've got great taste :)

  • OMFG>...its jimmy smith back from the dead!!!!! woooooooooooooooooooow

  • @aarmington

Not the dead man walking, only the bass. :-)

  • Our Keyboard man played a B3 with the old style Leslie back in the late 60's through the 80's. He could get down, but for some reason he didn't look as good as her. Heck she can play better bass with her feet than I can with my hands! This girl is BEYOND great, and by the way I love B3's. I don't think this combo, she and the hammond can be beat! I can listen to her all day! FANTASTIC!!!

  • awesome!!.. really great!

  • Fantastic very soulful. The band is tuff too.

  • Hans , Thanks for showing us this great player , never heard of her . you have a nice site too !!!!

  • Just found her , what a power house , shes fantastic player performer , also Beautiful !!!! Love B-3 , Great Groove !!

  • An awesome post to share, thank you!

  • genije

  • I've played this - what? at least 15 times!! and see no reason to quit, except to play others by her!!

    WOW!!

  • Absolute genius!

  • She's excellent!

Does anybody know who's the amazing drummer accompanying her?

Great musical communication between both & great dynamics used so tastefully by both of them - superb musicians the two!

  • Watch the video carefully, his name appears:

Daniel Messina, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Google him on drummerworld

  • @hans1970 Argentina! Present!

  • Thank's so much for the info & for posting this great video.

There's some good videos of his right here on YouTube too!

    Best always.

  • Barbara is the best female jazz organist on the planet !!

  • There is Rhoda Scott too. I was likely to attend one concert given by the 2 better organists (women) on the world close to Narbonne (France) in July 2008. That happiness! True dream!

I love Hammond sound since I was born !

    Best regards ...

  • Absolutely, I love Rhoda's playing too. Personally I don't like calling anyone "the best" - I know Barbara thinks of music as a celebration, not a competition - she and Rhoda are good friends.

  • 100% of agreement with you. One cannot compare them. They are complementary. They have each one a different course. With final, for us, it is brilliant.

    Peace to you ...

  • Fantastic feel, great rhythmic variation and dynamics, very musical, great musical interaction with the drums (very good). Thanks a lot to Lance Brown for sending me this very inspiring Video, greets Vic.

  • Wow, some really nice blues playing......and the player is even easy on the eyes.....not often you can say that! LOL.

  • At 4:53 the piano sounds in the left hand. Why not stay with it for that solo? Yes, we are listening to every note you play. You are the best. Come to the USA and tour.

I personally think Hammond Jazz would get a boost if you team up with another great like Tony or Joey. Try to duplicate the magic from Incredible.

  • Barbara was in the USA and Canada this month and will be back in late Aug & Sep.

  • @PastTime777 at 4:53 I hear not a piano, --but a xylophone ...

  • This whole piece is a real joy to listen to, especially as a morning tune when you get out of bed. I'm always finding something new here as well.

Favorite part is 7:24 and onwards, really amazing. Thanks for sharing :)

  • when the name daniel messina drums comes, looks like "lame" and "dum" when fading in

  • Wieso sich in Werken von Organisten aus aller Welt verlieren, wenn die überlegensten so nah sind? :)

    Unvergleichlich, souverän und wahnsinnig gefühlvoll.

  • This girl is awesome!

  • This is a really great performance from start to finish!

Good to hear Dennerlein given ample time to stretch out in a long 10 min groove session with only drums as backing.

The drumming is, by the way, very good from Messina.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Muchas Gracias!! Best Regards

  • OH MY GOODNESS! This time I DID pee my pants. This is just waaaAAaaay too good for human consumption.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!! & Congratulations, for all YOU DO, hans1970. Oooh wee, Big Trap kit on this one..I haven't seen this drummer, till now.

  • Barbara Dennerlein is such a fantastic musician. I wish her the best and thanks for this beautiful video!!

  • That's just incredible. She is the female Jimmy Smith.

  • i was lucky to see jimmy smith at the chicago jazz showcase for two days in a row. barbara dennerlein is carrying on the hammond organ tradition in a most outstanding way. may she have many years of joyful, soulful music.

    peace,

    rich
