This is a lovely version of a beautiful prayer. Can you share the composer or even a link to sheet music that I can share with my congregation's choir? Thanks and Shabbat Shalom to you.
@gtownmomma This version is by Max Helfman, and is found in what is called "The Gates of Song" companion to the siddur, the Gates of Prayer. It is often referred to as the Gates of Blue :)) The page is not listed but it is Number 41. I have been singing this at Rodef for over 10 years. In the beginning, the congregants just listened, and now most are able to join in. It is a lovely and peaceful prayer. Shabbat Shalom from Pittsburgh.
@cantorandopera Thanks so much for the quick reply! I am going to pull out my copy of Gates of Song and start practicing! I appreciate your help in expanding our repertoire at Congregation Or Chadash (in Damascus, Maryland).
My tradition uses a slightly different melody, but yours is soooooo beautiful. Thank you so much for your postings. Only one suggestion, if I may...... it`d be good idea to have a sound expert positioning the mics, etc so as to avoid getting the coughing of the public..... hope it helps... shabbat shalom from Brazil
For our Friday evening services we use a piano. Most Saturdays, we use an organ in the large sanctuary, but guitars and other folksy instruments are used in our smaller halls and chapels.
I know enough Hebrew to know that the translation isn't precisely literal...I would love it if it were more so. It's up to us to reach up to the Hebraic conceptions, not up to you to condescend to ours. :)
Thanks for your comment. I used the translation from the Mishkan T'filah and know that it is not quite literal. I am not as fluent in Hebrew as I should be, so I rely a great deal on all sorts of translations. I came to this Liturgical music very late in life and my biggest regret is that my working Hebrew vocab is limited. I am a work in progress and always trying to learn more :)) Rowna
GRACIAS!!! Cara Rowna por este mensaje que desde su bello Cantar y su Dulcísima Voz nos invita a la Serenidad entre nosotros Todos, los seres Humanos!!!

Lovely! I'm not Jewish, so this is the first time I've heard this. A beautiful evening prayer that anyone of any faith could say and mean.
