You are crazy people. Most of you speak about gipsies withour even know one of them. lol thats madness. Gipsies are not people who travel with caravans and play every night on the fire..... FROM LONG TIME AGO.
JimmyDeLocke, reread these posts more carefully than you read them the 1st time.
Most of us here are in agreement that most Rock "gods" like Page don't come close to Gypsy Jazz pros, so we're not pumping up Rock players at all, the media does enough of that as it is (along with pumping up (C)Rappers, Pop Stars,
get over yourselves. Page couldn't carry this guy's case! comparing those self indulgent neanderthal zeppelin riffs to what Jimmy's doing is just plain ridiculous.
@JimmyDeLocke woah, page may not be able to play nowhere near rosenberg, but their 2 completely different guitarists, page was good at folk blues and rock, jimmy is amazing at gypsy jazz so it is a stupid comparison really
@joesatriani1200rulez true enough -- but Bireli Lagrene can do it all -- from heavy metal to Paganini, and all of the pentatonic wankers in the world couldn't carry his case.
@JimmyDeLocke im sure he can but he cant do it better than the heavy metal guitarists cause thats what they all specialise in, cmon now pentatonic wankers? the pentatonic scale is probably the best thing thats ever happened to the world of playing guitar
tinian, you must mean the cover, cause who hasn't heard the original?BTW, Jimmy Rosenberg and LaGrenne can improv with the best. Some of those vids are right here on YouTube.Page's stuff was generally prewritten, that doesn't mean he wasn't creative in a compositional sense cause he obviously was, but in an improv sense he pales next to these guys. As well as compared to others like MacLaughlin, DeLucia, Blackmore, etc, Montoya, and of course the all time greatest in my opinion, Django Reinhardt.
as most of these Gypsy Jazz guys. Closest I've heard from anyone in the Rock business was Knopffler doing a Django piece a few years back. And Jorgensen does a pretty good job in general, but most best players in other genres
are afraid to touch this stuff. LaGrenne, the Rosenbergs, DeBarre, etc. would chop some serious reps.

Technically and from a musical standpoint, these guys are indeed a lot more talented and skilled than Page; however, Page is 100X more creative.....just look at all of his compositions, ideas, and his groundbreaking recording techniques. Do a youtube search for No Quarter live played note-for-note by vanderbilly, and tell me that that solo is not rife with creative phrasing and hooks.
Interesting. I've been watching all the Frank Vignola / Jimmy Rosenberg clips on YOUTUBE and it's the exact repertoire of their 2001 Django Festival CD recorded at the Birdland. To me, that Birdland recording evoked feelings of listening to Jimmy Page in the 1970's; different styles, but energetic and grand in a unique way.
Love the Paganini!

Yeah I agree! Even though some rock gods play guitar REALLY well, it's really the gipsy style that pleases us the most aint it? ;)
