They all have different strong and weak points but they are all equal. It is not until you put the sword in the hand of the fighter that they take on any meaning at all. At first, I thought it was too strict, but got used to it. I was a regional competition yesterday on Sunday and I lost the first round on kumite. Got kicked in the neck by an orange belt. After loosing I wanted to kick the guys ass, but my dad got him over to cheer me up. I now know that karate isnt just for ass kicking but 4 self improve.

also just search youtube for that kick they have a 5th dan black belt demonstrating it (2nd or 3rd result i think when you search) really emphasize quickness in footwork and moving feet but at the same time follow through strong at the end of the kick.
@ JRBouncerz your belt system is almost identical to Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan (Korean like Taeakwondo). I used to take that and stopped after blue belt (one away from red, 2 away from black). I now incorporate that, Taekkyeon, and Shotokan into Hapkido which is my primary style now.

In my club we are taught how to block low kicks and hook punches also we are taught break falls so we don't hurt ourselves when we fall. At first, I thought it was too strict, but got used to it. I was a regional competition yesterday on Sunday and I lost the first round on kumite. Got kicked in the neck by an orange belt. After loosing I wanted to kick the guys ass, but my dad got him over to cheer me up. I now know that karate isnt just for ass kicking but 4 self improve.

@ JRBouncerz your belt system is almost identical to Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan (Korean like Taeakwondo). I used to take that and stopped after blue belt (one away from red, 2 away from black). I now incorporate that, Taekkyeon, and Shotokan into Hapkido which is my primary style now.

@JRBouncerz2010-we only use 3 belts, same number system. white-brown-black.. @ kyu 4 you get brown, kyu 1 you get black. they make you WORK from 10-4th to get your brown. no stripes, no multi color belts, none of that stuff.. i think its dojo to dojo policy but i live in NC, USA and that's how it is in all the dojos here... Then the black belt system is the same... I'm at kyu 5.. One away from brown (I'm TIRED of my white belt been wearing it for about 8 years practicing on and off). where u at?

@acerwk thats why in a real fight i wouldnt just use shotokan. i mix it up with hapkido and a few effective kung fu moves my chinese friend taught me. i'm 8-3, amateur non competitive of course ;x

@acerwk Actually you are wrong. Shotokan Karate is very practical. In my club we are taught how to block low kicks and hook punches also we are taught break falls so we don't hurt ourselves when we fall. Shotokan Karate is most definetly not a dance, every technique used in Shotokan Karate can possibly kill a person if the technique is performed correctly. Its is not a crap style, as a matter of fact it is a very displined Martial Art and very practical

@JRBouncerz2010 Thats good for you but thi isnt shotokan mate!Your sensei know that shotokan is style for faggots so add drills against low kicks hook etc.take a look in all syllabus of all big shotokan federations.jka,skif,kase ha etc.they dont have those kind of moves or drills!look all the exams kyu and Dan too.nothing!shotokan is shit,period!

@acerwk Now there is where you are wrong. My club is not part of any of those federations, we are part of NAKMAS who is in partnership with SKA, we have a different syllabus from those federations. The very basic blocks such as Age Uke, Uchi Uke, Soto Uke and Gedan Barai can block nearly anything with the exception of low kicks but we have another block that could easily block low kicks it is called Juji Uke Gedan. How many times do I have to tell you that I am not a faggot? listen next time.

@acerwk You never specified that it was to the shin. You only said a low kick. Of course I wouldn't use Juji Uke Gedan to block a shin attack but you never made yourself clear. I am not going to argue with you anymore. You are just an imature person who goes around being disrespctful to everybody. If you don't like Shotokan Karate then don't watch the video's.
