  • The values you are teaching your children sound like the 10 commandments. the Church does not believe in Hell. You mention 'Going to Hell'. It Would be Really hard Growing up as a child in the Church. As an adult, I chose to go-still do. If my parents would have Forced me as a child, I would feel the same as you. The cult definition you use could apply to Jesus and his followers also. I think the Catholic Church is the Largest cult. Have a Good day man.

  • Even worse God is no longer the judge but instead the legalistic leadership or Sir Pastor… This is also why you have some many different Christian denominations because many people don’t seek God they seek someone’s opinion of God…. It is important that you accept the finished work of Christ on the cross and remember Psalms 119.105 the word is a light to my path… It is only thru the Holy Spirit and the word that you will find your path……

  • My parents were caught up in the World wide cult and I have two sisters that are still in an offshoot of the cult… Ones husband is even gradated Ambassador College… One of the problems with cults like this is that you’re taught that by keeping the Law you somehow earn favoritism from God…… Unfortunately that leads to a very legalistic atmosphere with people being put out of the church for minor infractions…

  • You still feel werid when you eat pork? Not me! When I found out that I was no longer bound to the clean and unclean laws, I took to pork, ham, sausage, and seafood faster than your head could spin! But then, I'm from the South! And I praised God for the freedom to enjoy it!

  • Sorry for commenting on such an old video... you probably forgot you even had it out here... Again God bless You and your family.

  • I decided to see what people thought about this church on YouTube and it follows what I have heard from other past members... they complain about tithes and these sort of things, not eating lobster... If we decide that we have been so wronged by being "extra righteous" as if there is such a thing... Why believe God does not exist? Is He mad that we did extra...it about the heart that gave and sacrificed. Many are now bitter, which does no service going forward. God Bless you my friend. Peace.

  • I understand that you are upset by your upbringing and religion in general, and I am sure that you won't care, but aside from extra rules and not being able to buy your way into heaven the WWCG was no different than the Catholic church. You have to be in good/ following the rules or you are excommunicated.... (leavening to the body of Christ). Also the leaders are somehow your reps to God and they have truth. I grew up the same way... and took some time off as well. But I can't blame God.

  • @mooner1111 No apology necessary, thanks for you comment. It goes a lot deeper then tithing or not eating lobster for me. I have many reasons for being angry at organized religion. I came to being an agnostic/ atheist threw a long journey that began many years ago.

  • WWCG was just as bad in Canada in the 80's and the start of the 90's. Living in a cult teaches you to see the bullshit in all religions.

  • We all free thinkers. Maybe thats what it means that H.W.A has the true church, because we don't believe in organized religion and we don't believe in "values."

I still cant believe that H.W.A said he is the prophet of the end of days.

I don't believe in a God that requires you to go to church. Church is nothing but a giant social club, like a country club with full of hypocrites.

  • Yah I agree, people learn values on their own. I guess the WCG today is the garden variety Satan- vegetarian.

Some atheists have stronger morals, convictions and values than Christians. You Christians should admit it, your a bunch of hypocrites.

  • hey there

i went to WWCG from 1969 1980+. i am now 53 yrs. old and an athiest. you can't fully explain to anyone what we really experienced growing up with HWA. you need to read :"you would have grown up with the WWCG IF. web site. if you know the answered to these questions you know whAi mean

    Miami Fl.

  • It is funny how HWA made many see "the Light" and become Atheist. Thank you and Welcome free thinker.

  • I also grew up in WWCG , Bluefield WV to be exact. I am now 31 years old and I must say that I know first hand how you feel in the way the church has corrupted young minds.

  • been where your at . still trying to alleviate the damage done 41 now agree with you totally one point you may not have known as a white guy and i found out at y.o.u. camp 1500 miles away from home(NY) i am black and took interest in a beautiful fair skinned lass and she in me we were told that we could not persue a relationship because we were of different church families i was told i was a hammite and we were meant to serve the white brethren in the coming paradise.

  • I grew up in the church too and I'm sorry to hear that. Until the age of 13, I was in the church in Corpus Christi, TX. I remember a couple was disfellowshiped for being an inter-racial couple. He was hispanic and she was a deacon's white daughter. I remember even at the age of 9 not understanding the problem. Good riddance to WWCG!

  • Yes good riddance. What a silly church that was teaching separate but equal.

  • Your perspective and memory of what happened while growing up in the WWCG brings back a lot of memories for me! I can totally relate to EVERYTHING you said! The stigma put on us as kids because we had a "weird religion", being ostersized at school, being set aside somewhere at school during the "pagan" celebrations of Xmas, Valentines etc...in my case we always had to go to the library), the "lock down" from sun down Friday till sun down Saturday, having things literally ingrained in me etc...

  • I used to be an athiest. I was a drug dealer, womanizer, rageaholic. I was feared in my South Bronx neighborhood. The point is that it is not about religion. It is about God and his word, the truth. Why is it the truth and not the Koran, or Buddhist teachings. It is the truth because of prophetic and historical accuracy. We're not talking about 10% or 50%, we are talking about 100% and counting. I know you still believe your just hurt, but God Loves you an he always will.

  • I posted a message on one of your previous videos(#2) about five minutes ago. I just wanted to add an important point. The WCG scoffed and disrespected Herbert W. Armstrong during the last 10-15 yearsof his leadership. The majority of the congregation as well as the ministers went against H.W.A's Legacy. I do believe that you were a victim of Satan's sway over the majority of the WCG. Even HWA's chosen succesor Joseph Tkatch went against HWA for greed. Gerald Flurry fought to revive the truth.

  • Joeseph Tkach had the faith, boldness & obedience to do what he knew was right, regardless of the potential for monetary loss! A HUGE amount of the membership left after the "changes", started to be talked about and implemented, taking their tithes and offerings with them! Joseph Tkach did what God led him to do! How you can you possibly believe your own statement that Joseph Tkach did it for greed??!!

  • Mr. Tkach went against the Word of God as reavealed, in part, by Herbert Armstrong. Tkach chose to go the way of Pagan beliefs(the trinity, etc.) and for that he is decieved. You have lost your way. Jesus himself said that those who believe in him would be persecuted. Some can handle it, some can't. Those that can't try to use human reasoning to explain why they have given up. But there is no reason to give up on The TRUTH. I hope that you all just forget about the churches and focus on GOD...

  • I also grew up in the WWCG. I sympathize with your feelings. You should consider counseling. It is evident in your statements that you are not over your experience and as much as you defend your beliefs now it doesn't seem like your 100% or you wouldn't feel the need to continually validate yourself.

  • I agree about the counseling. It will do wonders and will help you see just how much the cult still has a grip on you. I married a fat, ugly bitch in the church because I thought this is what God wanted (thankfully, we had no kids). I could have done much better than her but was forbidden from doing so. However, after years of dealing with the shame, I decided to get counseling and it was the best choice I could have ever made. My new wife & my kids are better off for it, too!

  • Great video.

We can never establish our own righteousness, as the HWA groups, and all other false religions seek to do.

We are reconciled to God the Father through Christ Jesus' attonement, and through faith in His work we achieve His righteousness.

Salvation by works or works plus faith instead of FAITH is a very clever deception by the father of lies.

HWA in a roundabout way says John 3:16 is not true.

Praise God, thank you Jesus that you've been pointed back on track.

  • I agree that the WWCG beliefs made it difficult growing up(teased a lot). I wanted to respond because I'm saddened by the number of posts claiming to be turned off from any religion. I left when I was 16, and I did not attend a church until I met my wife at age 23. While I have issues and I'm skeptical about 100% of the Presbyterian church doctrine. I do not let that get in the way of my relationship with God. I thank him daily for my blessings and I will pray for those that feel lost.

  • Thank you for your comments and for sharing your experience. Wives seem to know a lot more then we give them credit for ;-)

  • Wives that are not blinded by the teaching of the cult can be a tremendous help. We definitely need to give credit where credit is due.

  • I got sucked into this crap when I was 16 and wasted the next 10 years of my life in this cult. This included a failed "church" marriage that should have never happened. No church is 100% correct. If we realize that we are imperfect people living in an imperfect world, we will see this very clearly and will know exactly why we need the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ - nothing more, nothing less.

  • I also remember being told I had to marry inside the church, that terrified me cause there were only 2 girls in my congregation my age range and they were both fat and ugly..lol. I do have some good memories though, I did travel all across North America thanks to the feast of Tabernacles, we went to Niagara Falls most years but we went to a few places in the States too. what was the feast that we had to starve ourselves for a whole day? I remember being maybe 5 or 6 and I couldn't eat all day...

  • Sorry, I meant to click on reply. I did marry in the cult (met her at the fot in 1991 in Lexington, KY - she was from Charleston, WV) and it was a disaster from the get go. I thought this is what God wanted for me. What a fool I was! It only lasted 2 &1/2 miserable years and by the time it was over, I was out of the cult but it was years before I was able to get the cult out of me.

  • I can't believe I found these videos. I agree with you almost 100% about the cult. I went to the WWCG my whole childhood until I left when I was a teen. I'm 23 now and I went to the Peterborough, Ontario, Canada congregation. What you said about the food made me laugh, do you remember trying real bacon for the first time instead of that chicken bacon..lol. I had to quit playing hockey as a kid because most my games were Friday night or Saturday day, it still pisses me off to this day. Thanks

  • Been there, done that! I pissed away my teen years on this cult and then married someone I shoudn't have because she was "in the church". I started to see the cult for what it was and it wasn't long before she divorced me for "abandoning God". The truth was that she was cheating on me and I was about to find out. I know there is a God because she couldn't conceive a child the whole time we were married. I will always carry the shame of being duped but at least I'm out of that awful cult.

  • raised in big sandy texas, victem of the worldwide cult as well brother

  • Google THE TRUTH PROJECT

  • I was in this cult as a kid too. There were very stringent rules about dress/hairstyles/makeup/jewelry. WWCG forced divorces, broke families apart as the guidelines changed. It used a strange hybrid of the old and new covenants. I think what messed me up the most was the whole "God stick" vs "Shame

Cave" view of sex. Or maybe being completely financially destroyed until we were on food stamps.

  • Same Cult brother.

  • yeah that curch was a cult I dont care what anyone says. It robbed me of my child hood.

to this day I HATE ORGANIZED RELIGION.they had nothing to do with God. Read your bible for your self though before you give up on God.

Did you know that HwA was a child molester and diddled his daughter? when her brother found out, hwa kicked out his own son and made up a bunch of rumors about him so no one would believe his story.

the whole church was corroupt from the top down. they are $ whores also

  • I have read some things on HWA. I also know That GTA was a player while claiming to be a man of god. Thanks for you comment. I am glad to see we children of the cult at least have a format to communicate.

  • i feel that same way thats why I don't care about religion one way or the other any more, god help me.

  • Good response. You're talking a little too fast in the end(is this sped up?)

  • Yes it was, you have to be under 11 minutes or the video won't upload.

  • hehe, I thought you sped it up, either that or you are one amazing fast talker like that micromachines guy!

  • Not sure I want to wade into this issue but I felt compelled to write. I am a former WWCG member so I have so history. Your mom and many others joined the church voluntarily. No one was forced to join. Surely your mom did some research to see if what they taught was the correct or not. Who was at fault here? After all this time, based on the Bible which I know you don't believe is the ultimate truth, I still can not disprove what they taught.

  • Yes my mother joined at age 27, an adult yes but a young adult. She believed what they taught was the truth. She was a hoodwinked everymuch like everyone else. The people at the top are the ones I have issues with, not the average member. Thank you for the comment, it was interesting. Why don't you tell us more of your experience in "the church".

  • Something that I didn't say in the video that I'm posting is that I think you seem like a pretty stable person. By all means, if you wanted to seek some kind of therapy, go nuts...but life is never meant to be perfect. And, just from seeing how you speak in front of the camera, I think you think fairly clearly.

  • Thank you Erin, I hope I didn't come off to harsh in this video. I have had more then a few people get upset with some of my videos on this subject. I will count you as a friend ;-) Thank you for your time.

  • You're saying my name correctly, btw. :) My name is actually Erin, which is probably a lot easier to say. :p

In a lot of ways, I do agree with you that the WCG fits your definition of a cult (even though I wasn't there, so I can't really judge much of it), but a lot of people give a strong negative connotation to the word cult.

  • You, sir, are very correct that I was never part of the WCG. I only know what my parents have told me. I just don't like how saying negative things about the WCG can put negative light on the LCG.

When I said that the church gave me values, I meant that certain individuals (as well as my parents) helped me to develop my own value system. You're right that I phrased myself incorrectly, and I'm glad that you realized that what I may have meant. :)

  • Also, if "society" should decide what is right or wrong as you say, you also said that 99% of societieS think that murder is wrong. If you think that, you're still using those drugs you tried when you were a kid. Middle Eastern societies believe in murder. Tribes in Africa commit genocide daily. America is not 99% of societieS.

Also, if you base your morals based on what American society believes is right and wrong, perhaps you should consider that 76.5% of American Adults are Christian.

  • "perhaps you should consider that 76.5% of American Adults are Christian."

Then 76.5% of the American population is still blind to the facts.

  • Really? Middle eastern countries believe in Murder? Examples please. If you are referring to the extremist, well they are just as stupid caught up in Dogma as christens. I am not referring to strictly American society, there are many non christian societies who have a fine moral standard.

  • Also, you don't have good morals if you think that just because YOU lacked self control and chose to use controlled substances during your youth, you shouldn't try to prevent your children from making the same mistakes you made. Your children are (hopefully) stronger people than you, and if they are, they should be able to have some self control and not use drugs. Not every teenager tries drugs, and modern U.S. society no matter what you think does not condone the use of drugs.

  • "you don't have good morals"

Who the FUCK are you to decide who has morals and who doesn't. Are you god?

  • You are funny, you had a "perfect spot free" adolescence and you are a perfect non judgmental adult. Good Job.

  • Also, though, this video really helped me understand why you are unhappy with what the church did. You obviously didn't follow the church's doctrines while you were in it, so that made you feel guilty. The guilt made your childhood stressful, and now you are blaming the church for a stressful childhood that you brought upon yourself. Seek help A.S.A.P!

  • I feel sorry for you and all the people like you who bow down to this sort of slavery. You will never know the freedom of living your own life to it's fullest because you are enslaved by others who only want your money and your soul.

  • First of all let me say that I am not a member of and have never been a member of the WWCG or Global. Secondly, however, their doctrines are not unorthodox and they do not live outside of society.

  • Well you certainly know a lot about there Dogma so you must have had some experience. As far as the definition, they did however have a charismatic leader which the definition say or in it.

  • Most religious people that I have encountered feel that they have a monopoly on values, ethics and morals. They just don't see how I can have those virtues without believing in a god or belonging to some organised religion.

Those same people seem to feel that they have license to commit crimes against their fellow man because they are forgiven. Now that is just plain stupid...

I suggest that my morals are of a higher standard because I have no motivation other than my own.

  • Again we agree, thank you for your comments and insight.

  • Good stuff Stephen, and well reasoned. The only cult figure that gets my full approval is HotforWords, and I'm not totally sure she qualifies as religious.

Seriously though, do you intend giving your boys any religious education at all, or will you just let them decide for themselves when old enough?

  • Its interesting how there are more cult religions in the US.

I lost my trust in religion simply because so many had a 1-1 relationship with God, there was no love thy neighbor.

  • Glad you didn't get involved with that mess a few years back in Waco Texas. Invite her over for a beer and a good ham sandwich to talk about it.

  • this is a really good video i love the part about not doing drugs, deff. unrealistic lol great video man
