Rode one of those when I lived in Pittsburgh back in the 80s. They call theirs 'inclined planes'.

I love these old funicular railways! I used to visit the one at Lynmouth / Lynton in north Devon quite regularly. That one is still hydraulically driven. I went on one last year at Bridgnorth in Shropshire too.
